Fantastic guitar for the money! I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a budget Gold top Les Paul copy. Love your playing Gav. Haters gunna hate ;-)
Brilliant again Gav love your playing and these Vintage Guitars are the business I thought they were when they appeared about 10 or more years ago but now with T Ws involvement the icing on the proverbial.Your playing is amazing deserving of more recognition.
Thinking of getting one of these, or possibly the Epiphone Goldtop p90 guitar - does anyone know which is better?
Im worried about the finish/colour looking cheap and I cant tell from the videos - has anyone compared one of these goldtops with an expensive, eg gibson, goldtop?
This was my first guitar aged 13 in 2000..brilliant bit of kit, still gets played today through a '64 Selmer tube amp. I use a couple of other Gibsons but I still love the build quality of the Vintage. Top-notch guitar and it's been very well loved.
Hi, do you know if the goltops come with a black or a white truss rod cover. I know it's not a big detail but the photos on the JHS website show it with and all videos show it without. Thanks
Yes, mini-humbuckers can be fitted. I replaced the pickups In my V100GT. I now have a classic P90 (not stacked) in the neck-position, and a Firebird humbucker in the bridge position (with the original Firebird fitting-ring). The original Wilkinson stacked p90:s Actually has a 4-lead wires, so you can split them.
I've also tossed on a bigsby on my V100GT and fabricated a pick-guard out of aluminium sheet metal.
Played one of these, along with the distressed/regular Les Paul copies, and the distressed strat. AMAZING guitars for the money...those vietnamee must work super cheap!
@ksm375 they aren't completely noisless, especially with high gain - no P90 is. Wilkinson does a double 'stacked' P90 which is pretty hum and noise free though - they are fitted to the Vintage Advance AV6, AV1 and AV3 guitars, and can be 'rolled' off down to a single P90 tone.
Can those pickups be replaced by Mini-humbuckers? I intended to get a gold top but I prefered humbuckers for more full sound especially on the bridge...however since I can only place P90 size pickups in there..I thought about mini-humbuckers. Is it possible?
I know its a stupid question but are these pickups noiseless? I´m using a Marshall JCM 2000 TSL and I want to know whether I need a noisegate or not if I get the V100 GT!
@ICEcracker89 - they wont "buck" the hum like a standard V100 pickup as they are a P90 style - if you are using a lot of gain there will be some noise.
I'm using the Kustom anniversary series KGA10FX. The standard model is around the £80 mark at full RRP, the only difference is the Anniversary series has the "tuck n roll" covering and the vintage control panel layout.
ive just got one 2day just because its gd just to hv really but i just wana say i dident expect to plug it in andd here the sound that came out of the pick ups there fucking shit hot
Got a new one now and its quality is ok....just a ding on the back really, only other thing is the screw holding the scratch plate to the bracket is a bit long and digging into the finish, ill change that before it does any damage tho. overall decent sound so not too bad for a £200 guitar, if attention to detail was paid on the finish im sure these could go for twice the price. I would of bought from a shop but im limited where i live, it was worth a punt ;0)
I got one and it wasnt set up at all, the strings were flat to the neck and needed truss rod adjustment then the bridge taking down as it was set far too high. All the quality card had been signed off, action ok elecs ok etc but how could it have been tested with the neck so far out of adjustment? There was also bad workmanship on the neck at the top too which is why it was returned. Shame on John who signed it off as ok...I'm waiting for the replacement now I hope its better.
I got my son a V100IT for christmas the other day, I tried it out yesterday while he was at school and I think its a fantastic guitar, I couldnt leave it alone, It was set up pretty well only needing minor adjustment and stays in tune really well after the strings bedded in. Its a lot better than the epiphone custom i tried last week in sound, quality and price. I must admit i didnt know guitars this good existed under £200. I might order one for myself after christmas to gig with.
should i buy that guitar ? to me it sound awsome but i dont that much about guitars and your a really good player you could make anything sound crazy. it would be my second guitar becuse i really need a new one and it took me ages to save £200 and wont to know im not buying rubish
I own a les paul jr and im looking for a backup with a similar sound, I was thinking about this guitar, do the w90 pickups have that same "edge" as a p90 in a gibbo? or would i have to upgrade them? its hard to really tell from the video.
I honestly can't give you a definitive answer to that - I like the wilkinson pickups and think they are faithful reproductions with some great innovations, but it is a subjective thing. But at this price upgrading the pups is not going to be a bank breaker.
Gav i saw everything about your guitars and i simple love them, unfortunately i can't try one because i live in the end of the world.
so i wanna play metal (iron maiden, metallica, system of a down, etc), lots of rocks (like Guns, AC/DC, Nirvanna, linkin park, faith no more, etc), punk, blues, and a litle of Jazz, i want that the clean be worm and sweet.
so what do you think that are the best vintage guitar? and wich model?
ive got that guitar and it is falling apart one of the knobs came of and one of the other knobs ar screwed on to tight so it scratches the body and its all battered
I do know my guitars thanks - just making the observation that the Chinese make many guitars for many companies across the world, and although you have been unfortunate in getting a bad example of this particular guitar (and you can check the rest of the comments on this and other videos - I'd guess 90%+ of the comments left are positive) there is no need to make such a sweeping derogatory, and racist statement.
Hi dude - it weighs pretty much the same as a standard LP - after all it's the same materials. Obviously, that makes it heavier than a doublecut ST style.
How much does this guitar cost? Its pretty sweet... and when I went to a huitar shop a few weeks ago I saw a les paul vintage imitation.... it was about 500$ and it was really sweet... but I couldnt find a vintage website... but I really liked the guitars sound. i saw a picture of this guitar nd it was rely sparkly like sumthink out of a disco nd i was wonderin is it rely dat glitery/sparkly in real life........ plzzzzz reply adam :_)
HI, and thanks for watching - depends on what you are going to play I suppose - the VS6 is probably our biggest seller, but personally I love the V100's. But if I needed to play country or rock n roll I'd choose the TC200!
I'd have to say, they're about neck-and-neck when it comes to quality, both are of extremely high quality. I have the VS6, and it is a true, faithful replica of Gibson's 61 or 62 SG. And it's about 1/6 the price of Gibson's 61' Reissue. Amazing build quality, sound, and feel; it's worth way more than it's highly affordable price tag. I highly recommend any Vintage guitar by JHS, based on my experience with using them.
i'm checking these guitars out they seem a little too cheap, i mean does the term "you get what you pay for" apply to this guitar?? or is it worth wild to buy. because i can't see myself buying a gibson or a epiphone...
Hey, you can pay more if you want LOL. But seriously, I can hand on my heart say that you will be getting an authentic sounding, playable guitar, that is chock full of features, even at this price.
is it possible to change the p 90s from the guitar to normal humbuckers? i just need to know that to order mine, that guitar would be great if i put 2 seymour duncans alnico 2
hey man, love the video... desperately want to get one of these, seems about as close as i could get to one of those really early gold tops with p90's. any idea how similar they actually sound??? also, how do these p90's stack up against other p90's you have tried?
and how does the action come? all my guitars buzz when set any lower than a medium action! (still love them but i'd like to have one with a really low action) Thanks in advance
Hi dude, thanks for watching. The sound in terms of sustain and tone is as close as you can get without actually buying a early GT. As for low, low action well that's how I prefer them too. I would suggest that you have a professional luthier set it up for you - although they come pretty well set up, at this price it's worth the extra expense.
well, i found a shop with a few to compare and turns out i dont find the les paul a very comfortable guitar (more used to strats) so i didn't have that choice to make in the end... i tried a vintage vs6 up against a £700(roughly) gibson sg and i fell in love with it! £130 and i have what is in my opinion a very good example of an sg! most people seem to be put off cos its "too" cheap! bugger that.
So i now have my hb's, i'll keep an eye out for a quality bargain with p90's!
Yo, are you playing that stright out of the box or did you have it set up? Cuz i've heard that the tuning pegs are real crap and it doesn't stay in tune at all? Any advice on the guitar would be great as i'm looking to get one, cheers.
Well, if the tuning pegs were crap, it wouldn't matter if I had it set up or not - it would still go out of tune.
But to answer your question, no, this is pretty much as it comes and I've never experienced any problems with the Wilkinson machine heads on any guitar...and I've played lots of them!
this guitar is amazing ;] i'm considering to buy that one or model V100MRPGM ICON Lemon Drop
Could you give some advice? I like the way of look MRPGM but sound is more important.
This models have different pickups...
Anyway which guitar will be better for playing heavy metal, hard rock music? I like style of zakk wylde or slash and and don't know wich guitar choose and i heard that MRPGM is more bluesy. I hope you understand me ,sorry for my english :] and by the way great playing ;)
Hi dude and thanks for watching - for Slash and ZW tones I would suggest the Lemon Drop over the gold top, as the pickups will give you more bite and sustain. The Gold tops pickups are a single coil design, so are a bit thinner, with more treble.
Hi and thanks for watching - the amp I'm using in this demo is the anniversary series Kustom KGA10FX (spec is the same as the standard KGA10FX) - you can also get the 16 watt version Kustom KGA16DFX for around £100.
i thought u were geezer butler for a minute i was thinking "what the bloody hell is geezer doing with a les paul?" then u said ur name was gav lol. one question have u tried the normal v100s? if so, would recommend it? really good playing by the way :)
Yes, I've played the standard humbucker equipped V100, and if you are after a classic single cutaway guitar sound then you really can't go wrong - classic voiced pickup, solid mahogany neck and body, maple top - all the things you would expect from the original at a fraction of the price.
I just brought back my V100 Cherry Sunburst. I bought it second hand in a shop for €299,- but I found it on the internet new for about €250,-. So now I'm going to order a new one from the internet.
I only noticed this Gold Top Model has different pickups then my old Cherry model. What's the difference?
Hi dude, and thanks for watching. The gold top has the Trev Wilkinson P90 style pickups, which is like an overwound single coil - it has more bite and top end than a standard humbucker, but obviously not as much depth of sustain, although it's still pretty good as you can hear.
Hi dude and thanks for watching - yes this would be an excellent guitar for a beginner, but also check out the Vintage Advance AV1 range, which offer the humbucker to single coil pickup options through the versatile "Roll Control" fitted as standard. There is even a gold top with P90 stacked humbucker model.
Bloody amazing playing, Gav, and killer tone! I am saving for one of these babies...I have a Vintage VS6 (SG copy) which is a top guitar also. Question: what gauge strings are you playing on that - they don't sound like factory fitted 9-42's?
I use the V100 vintage gt but i've never managed to get such a good sound on mine as u hav on urs. i run it through a Boss ME-20 multi-FX pedal into a Fender FM212r 100watt amp (if that gives u anymore information). how is the best way to get the kinda of tone/sound u r producing?
I tried a couple of these yesterday, a Wine Red and a TSB. Great guitars for the money; in fact, great guitars, full stop. If I didn't already have a house full of bloody guitars already, I might well be tempted.
Hi i was thinking of getting this as my 2nd vintage (have the sg style one but with a tigerskin scratchplate and a schaller LP trem) but would this guitar sound good in ska-punk? thanks
Normally I would advise against an LP style guitar for Ska, but this model has the P90 style pickups which have a thinner, brighter tone, whilst still retaining some of the sustain and heaviness needed for rock tones.
Personally, if you wanting to go into Kravitz territory I'd look at the advance seres AV1 models, which have humbuckers but also the roll control to turn them down to single coisl. Check out my vid for more info.
Hi folks, I'm thinking of getting one of those Vintage axes myself. Is the relic effect the only difference between the Icons and the standard V100's, as far as anyone knows?
Thanks dude. That's the Kustom Dart 10 watt amp KGA10FX - It has the Anniversary Tuck n Roll covering, which is the only difference between it and the standard model.
Hey thanks whiteonsolo. It plays great, and has the weight and feel you would expect from this kind of guitar. The pickups make it a little brighter than standard humbuckers, but you still get bags of sustain.
Fantastic guitar for the money! I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a budget Gold top Les Paul copy. Love your playing Gav. Haters gunna hate ;-)

Hi. Great demo. Those P90 pickups sounds very heavy in my ears. Are they higher output than the Gibsons and similar brands?
alex45632759781432 11 months ago
@alex45632759781432 I don't know as a direct comparison, but these are closely based on the original spec - I'm just a distortion nut I guess.

so, i noticed those p90s had no hum, are all p90s humless?
ksm375 1 year ago
@ksm375 they aren't completely noisless, especially with high gain - no P90 is. Wilkinson does a double 'stacked' P90 which is pretty hum and noise free though - they are fitted to the Vintage Advance AV6, AV1 and AV3 guitars, and can be 'rolled' off down to a single P90 tone.

Why this one's cool :) I'd like to hear that through some nice tube amp. This one's far better than that SG clone.
shvejkas 3 years ago
I'd have to say, they're about neck-and-neck when it comes to quality, both are of extremely high quality. I have the VS6, and it is a true, faithful replica of Gibson's 61 or 62 SG. And it's about 1/6 the price of Gibson's 61' Reissue. Amazing build quality, sound, and feel; it's worth way more than it's highly affordable price tag. I highly recommend any Vintage guitar by JHS, based on my experience with using them.

I can't believe he's getting such a cool sound from that little solid state amp!

cant decide over this ,the v100 lemon drop or a iced tea v100 which do you prefer?
guitarman5588 3 years ago
Mmm, tough one as they are both great guitars. I think personally the Lemon Drop, just because I'm a big Gary Moore fan. :-)
vintageshred71 3 years ago
thanks :-)
guitarman5588 3 years ago
Think of it this way...for less than the price of a Gibson, you could get two of these...
humbuckersNcoke 3 years ago
i live in the US is it possible to buy one of these guitars perhaps through ebay/paypal?? i'm interested in the Fool Sg replica.
cyn33667 3 years ago
i'm checking these guitars out they seem a little too cheap, i mean does the term "you get what you pay for" apply to this guitar?? or is it worth wild to buy. because i can't see myself buying a gibson or a epiphone...
cyn33667 3 years ago
Hey, you can pay more if you want LOL. But seriously, I can hand on my heart say that you will be getting an authentic sounding, playable guitar, that is chock full of features, even at this price.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
is it possible to change the p 90s from the guitar to normal humbuckers? i just need to know that to order mine, that guitar would be great if i put 2 seymour duncans alnico 2
JaNaoHaNicksPorra 3 years ago
Hi, unfortunatley no - you would have to re- rout the body and put surrounds on.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
mini humbuckers would fit.
Shaguar66 3 years ago
Yes they would, good thinking Shaguar66.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
hi ! cand you make a review for vintage V100BB and play some heavy stuff ? please . and good work .thanks !
Urbansoul07 3 years ago
hey man, love the video... desperately want to get one of these, seems about as close as i could get to one of those really early gold tops with p90's. any idea how similar they actually sound??? also, how do these p90's stack up against other p90's you have tried?
rollingstoner100 3 years ago
and how does the action come? all my guitars buzz when set any lower than a medium action! (still love them but i'd like to have one with a really low action) Thanks in advance
rollingstoner100 3 years ago
Hi dude, thanks for watching. The sound in terms of sustain and tone is as close as you can get without actually buying a early GT. As for low, low action well that's how I prefer them too. I would suggest that you have a professional luthier set it up for you - although they come pretty well set up, at this price it's worth the extra expense.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
cheers man. i need to test the tsb vs the gt, i'm torn... P90's or Humbuckers...
rollingstoner100 3 years ago
did you decide which to go for?
mistersnaredrum 3 years ago
hey man.
well, i found a shop with a few to compare and turns out i dont find the les paul a very comfortable guitar (more used to strats) so i didn't have that choice to make in the end... i tried a vintage vs6 up against a £700(roughly) gibson sg and i fell in love with it! £130 and i have what is in my opinion a very good example of an sg! most people seem to be put off cos its "too" cheap! bugger that.
So i now have my hb's, i'll keep an eye out for a quality bargain with p90's!
rollingstoner100 3 years ago
awesome. no arguments against the vs6 here, i have one and love it!
maybe try some GFS dream 90s from guitar fetish in the future - good p90 sound in a humbucker sized case so you could pimp your vs6!
mistersnaredrum 3 years ago
good idea... my next purchase i think. nice one
rollingstoner100 3 years ago
between GT and 100tsb what would you choose . and why ?
Urbansoul07 3 years ago
I'd have to pick the V100TSB, simply because I love the full humbucker tone - but it all depends on what style you prefer.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
Yo, are you playing that stright out of the box or did you have it set up? Cuz i've heard that the tuning pegs are real crap and it doesn't stay in tune at all? Any advice on the guitar would be great as i'm looking to get one, cheers.
bilz27 3 years ago
Well, if the tuning pegs were crap, it wouldn't matter if I had it set up or not - it would still go out of tune.
But to answer your question, no, this is pretty much as it comes and I've never experienced any problems with the Wilkinson machine heads on any guitar...and I've played lots of them!
vintageshred71 3 years ago
Rockin' mullet. I think it sounds tons better laying off the gain and playing rhythm.
Bananfish1979 3 years ago
Lol, cheers dude....meat and poison I suppose. but I like the sound in either style.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
this guitar is amazing ;] i'm considering to buy that one or model V100MRPGM ICON Lemon Drop
I hope you understand me ,sorry for my english :] and by the way great playing ;)
franektcv 3 years ago
Hi dude and thanks for watching - for Slash and ZW tones I would suggest the Lemon Drop over the gold top, as the pickups will give you more bite and sustain. The Gold tops pickups are a single coil design, so are a bit thinner, with more treble.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
I'm confused on what amp i should buy for this guitar. I only have 100pounds to spend on it.
I know i wont be able to get a really good one, but one that makes this guitar sound half decent will be fine. Any suggestions? Thanks
yujamie123 3 years ago
Hi and thanks for watching - the amp I'm using in this demo is the anniversary series Kustom KGA10FX (spec is the same as the standard KGA10FX) - you can also get the 16 watt version Kustom KGA16DFX for around £100.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
i thought u were geezer butler for a minute i was thinking "what the bloody hell is geezer doing with a les paul?" then u said ur name was gav lol. one question have u tried the normal v100s? if so, would recommend it? really good playing by the way :)
pezzer92 3 years ago
LOL, hi pezzer92 and thanks for watching.
Yes, I've played the standard humbucker equipped V100, and if you are after a classic single cutaway guitar sound then you really can't go wrong - classic voiced pickup, solid mahogany neck and body, maple top - all the things you would expect from the original at a fraction of the price.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
ok thnks..... i was after that classic sound...jimmy page etc...thnx again
pezzer92 3 years ago
I just brought back my V100 Cherry Sunburst. I bought it second hand in a shop for €299,- but I found it on the internet new for about €250,-. So now I'm going to order a new one from the internet.
I only noticed this Gold Top Model has different pickups then my old Cherry model. What's the difference?
Breznikov 3 years ago
Hi dude, and thanks for watching. The gold top has the Trev Wilkinson P90 style pickups, which is like an overwound single coil - it has more bite and top end than a standard humbucker, but obviously not as much depth of sustain, although it's still pretty good as you can hear.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
i got this for my 14th birthday,
in my opinion, its a lot better than epiphone's around the same price range.
your really good at guitar btw.
jpncoke 3 years ago
Thanks dude :-)
vintageshred71 3 years ago
Hey there, im thinking of getting this for my first ever guitar, mainly due to the gold top finish :D.
just wondering if it would be a good starter guitar.
and will it play the music of Guns and roses, aerosmith etc ( zz top etc ) mainly rock music.
i was going for an epiphone GT with the p90's but i cannot seem to find one lol :D
XChunkyMunkeyX 3 years ago
Hi dude and thanks for watching - yes this would be an excellent guitar for a beginner, but also check out the Vintage Advance AV1 range, which offer the humbucker to single coil pickup options through the versatile "Roll Control" fitted as standard. There is even a gold top with P90 stacked humbucker model.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
its great for playing that type of music
XChunkyMunkeyX.
jpncoke 3 years ago
Sweet thanks :D going to get one soon :)
ofc im gonna be crap at it
XChunkyMunkeyX 3 years ago
Bloody amazing playing, Gav, and killer tone! I am saving for one of these babies...I have a Vintage VS6 (SG copy) which is a top guitar also. Question: what gauge strings are you playing on that - they don't sound like factory fitted 9-42's?
inkh0rn 3 years ago
Hi Inkhorn and thanks for the kind comments. Actually, they are the factory strings, probably 10's. Normally I would use Dunlop 9 gauge.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
I use the V100 vintage gt but i've never managed to get such a good sound on mine as u hav on urs. i run it through a Boss ME-20 multi-FX pedal into a Fender FM212r 100watt amp (if that gives u anymore information). how is the best way to get the kinda of tone/sound u r producing?
Luckyisafamilyguy 3 years ago
I tried a couple of these yesterday, a Wine Red and a TSB. Great guitars for the money; in fact, great guitars, full stop. If I didn't already have a house full of bloody guitars already, I might well be tempted.
Boingusboingus 3 years ago
Hi i was thinking of getting this as my 2nd vintage (have the sg style one but with a tigerskin scratchplate and a schaller LP trem) but would this guitar sound good in ska-punk? thanks
Inuyasha259 3 years ago
Normally I would advise against an LP style guitar for Ska, but this model has the P90 style pickups which have a thinner, brighter tone, whilst still retaining some of the sustain and heaviness needed for rock tones.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
How about the lp junior style vintage with the single p90?
Inuyasha259 3 years ago
Yeah that would be ideal for those styles too.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
so which vintage in your mind would best suit my style? sort of less than jake meets lenny kravitz (covers a bit of ground eh? lol)
Inuyasha259 3 years ago
Personally, if you wanting to go into Kravitz territory I'd look at the advance seres AV1 models, which have humbuckers but also the roll control to turn them down to single coisl. Check out my vid for more info.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
Hi folks, I'm thinking of getting one of those Vintage axes myself. Is the relic effect the only difference between the Icons and the standard V100's, as far as anyone knows?
Boingusboingus 3 years ago
Yeah, thats the only difference, all hardware, timbers, pickups etc is the same.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
Awesome.
Personally I'm thinking about buying a V100TSB.Just asking though, how are the original strings that come with the guitar.
jKazej 3 years ago
Thanks jKazej. To be honest, the factory strings are OK, but I usually change them for Dunlop's if I'm going to be playing the guitar a lot.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
Nice sounds wot amp are you playing through
Maidenrulesthisworld 3 years ago
Thanks dude. That's the Kustom Dart 10 watt amp KGA10FX - It has the Anniversary Tuck n Roll covering, which is the only difference between it and the standard model.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
nice tone! how is that gold top? cool?
whiteonsolo 3 years ago
Hey thanks whiteonsolo. It plays great, and has the weight and feel you would expect from this kind of guitar. The pickups make it a little brighter than standard humbuckers, but you still get bags of sustain.
vintageshred71 3 years ago
And the finish is ok? Is it golden or just yellow? xD Thanks
whiteonsolo 3 years ago
To my eyes this is definitely gold.
