Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Subaru, as well as MercedesBenz, BMW, Alfa Romeo, Audi, VW all offer awesome diesel vehicles for the rest of the world other than here in the US! Just cuz oil companies wanna keep selling Gasoline!

Only the" A class" can go some scrutiny because of its plastic and "cheap" build for the masses. And there is the view of classy and stylish design too. Wish You could all drive an Alfa Romeo 159 or similar through NY, you would see ;-) Cheers

  • well the shitty truck chassis on the caddy is not going to perform near as well as the GL's full unibody construction in any given situation. and take this: the GL got 07 sport utility of the year... and the caddy?... ummmm, well GM is pretty much fucked.

    gl320 - 210 horsepower V6

    escalade hybrid - 20 city / 21 highway (20.5 average)

    gl320 - 17 city / 23 highway (20 average)

    a much weaker engine and the same fuel economy!!! WOW!!! ok, let's say your a highway driveway and you'll get 2mpg more on the highway than in the escalade. so you'd be willing to give up 122 horsepower and two cylinders for 2 more mpg???

    standard features in the escalade not in the gl320 - power liftgate, tri-zone climate controls, etc.

  • the GL DOES have a power lift gate and the caddy costs an extra 20 grand... if you get a GL at that price, you will be getting more than what cadillac gives you. plus the GL can have adaptive cruise control. and its not all about horsepower...

  • the GL has more torque than a V10 BMW M5 super sedan. and the 7 speed with steering wheel mounted shifters... the cadillac has a 6 speed with a shifter mounted only on the shift leaver in the steering collumn. and the Merc is a touch shift which means that you just tap the shifter to shift into reverse and park.

  • and how about adaptive air suspension and power folding 3rd row seats? both are standard on the Mercedes. the GL's unibody conostruction is far better than the truck chassis in the cadillac. and how about a trailer pulling system that has sway control? and the suspension firms up when you put heavy loads in it.

  • I have a Consumer Guide book of vehicles from year 2008. In that book, it says that the GL320 and GL450 have available (not standard) power liftgate, memory system, leather upholstery, power sunroof, heated 2nd-row seats, and 14-way power seats (all of which are standard in the Escalade) while those features are only standard on the $77,375 GL550 ($77,375 for 2008). I assume that Mercedes wouldn't add on a standard power liftgate for 2009, but maybe they did.

  • Also, the Escalade Hybrid is $74,000 while the GL320 is $64,000. $10,000 difference, not $20,000. And there are a TON more standard features in the Escalade Hybrid, let alone the huge power advantage in the Hybrid.

    The GL320 is a decent SUV for moms who want to be a little more environmentally... "mature". But the Escalade Hybrid just generally seems to be a better choice.

  • actually the GL starts ar $56k and for that $64k, you would be getting everything that the cadillac would have plus more... vlice command and such. ajustable electronic air suspension. autolocking differentials. its a better built car. Mercedes put excessive money into the new GL and ML to vastly improve the overall quality if their SUV's. and how come i see lots of diesel GL's and no cadillac hybrids? because the GL is really the better car of the two by far. drive one.

    For $15,000 more, you get $30,000 more value. Get my point? The GL320 is less expensive, but the Escalade Hybrid is a better value.

    Maybe I'm wrong in one aspect though. Maybe the handling and ride quality in the GL is higher...

  • That´s because of the bluetec injection. Drive a BMW X5 Diesel V6 whit 265 hp you will reach 26mpg / hwy and don´t forget the 20% more torque than a gas V8

  • The only hybrid cars we have here in Germany are the Toyota prius and the Lexus stuff. That´s because the most people over here are buying German Cars with Diesel engines. Since two months we also can buy the Porsche Cayenne with a 260 hp V6 Diesel

  • Maybe the Porsche Cayenne Diesel will be worth the money. Maybe it will be $40,000, it will have a decent amount of power and performance, and lots of luxury amenities. But I feel that the GL320 is a $57,000 SUV that is really worth about $50,000

  • Maybe I didn't state what I meant correctly, and maybe the GL has great ride quality and handlilng. But I'd much rather have an Escalade than a GL450. Why? Way more standard features and way more power. Standard features in the 2010 Escalade not in the 2010 GL450: power liftgate, memory system, heated 2nd-row seats, tri-zone climate controls, cooled front seats, 14-way power seats, etc. Is there any way you could go wrong with an Escalade? It's a rhetorical question; think about it.
