I love this song. Check a cover version in a bar from two dudes who are trying to focus on the song while a wino is showing his appreciation a bit too much. Just type The Subway Cowboys The bottle let me down...
Merle Haggard is one of the legends of country music right there with Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Buck Owens, Roy Clark, Hank Jr & Sr, David Allen Cole, Johnnny Paycheck, Mel Tillis, I could go on & on.
yaaaa, this kinda weird but my grandfather wrote ths song and was sendin it to the rec comp. and it got stole !!!!! so believe me or not i dont care my dads got proff, un fortuantly my grandfather passed away in 88, so. rip Lyndon Hale
thanks for sharing. I'm going to be 36 this year and I remember cruising around town listening to 8 tracks of this stuff with my dad.... the bottle let him down. 6 feet down. Good country is hard to find. Thanks again for sharing :-)
merle an Hank SR. are the two main reasons for my life in country music. They tought me you could tell a life story in a song. I learned how to write music from listening to them since I was a little boy in the early 60's. I have a couple videos on you tube tell me if they tought me any thing. doug foster-Im in the mirror
Merle Haggard is da bomb he kicks arse when it comes to his songs, the bottle has let da hagg down, but! he has never let his fans down. I grew up on his music and I love all of his tunes....they don't get no better than da hagg.
The bottle might have let Merle down, but you never let me down when it comes to posting the best of classic country music. You did it again, another great one; thanks!
Your welcome, nice to see you come back! I guess I better think of some more of the "best" of classic country to keep you returning! Glad you like it!
a lot of people have covered this song. WAYLON did a good cover of it. the rendition of the song by brooks and dunn was luke warm at best. merle still has the classic on this tune! john
yep, everyone else should just leave it alone. they can't touch merle. waylon himself once said when it came to country singers there's merle haggard...and then there is everybody else!
i was surprised actually i thought gram could've done a better job than he did...the way he sang "You're still on my mind" would've been a good way for him to sing this in, but thats just my opinion, which doesn't mean shit in a tin can
woo woo
