  • eyem froom soomerset

  • my grandpa used to do something similar! Great idea!

  • chains are not expensive there meant for safety so yes..

  • Good idea. But as a tip, buy polyurethane rope; it'll last MUCH longer if you're going to use them a lot or leave them on for a long time.

  • awesome idea if i get stuck im gonna use it! thanks

  • next season just ask santa for some nice cables

  • i've been using half inch rope for many years. i use single short lengths each tied seperately. doing it this way, when it does wear through it gets thrown clear with less chance of it causing any damage to the car. best used with front wheel drive so that you go in the direction that you steer !

  • Well done lads! For the odd day of snow we have in the uk, well worth having rope for emergency. Credit to you both!

  • So their snow ropes.

  • @killersushi99 i guess you might be right. you could call them snow ropes LOL

  • This would foul the brake calipers on my car. There is very little clearance between the caliper and the inside of the wheel.

  • @sparkygl0s this is intended to be used in only an emergency we drove over ten mile with these on and they didn't breake or damage anything on our car , i am sure if you were stuck out in the middle of nowhere with snow on the ground this would be a better option rather than freezing to death in your car .even if you did . unfortunately break your car in the process..

  • @MrTrees4u

Its not a case of breaking anything. As I said before, my car has insufficient clearance between the inside of the wheel and the brake caliper. It just would not work, on my car.

  • Im just a bit worried about the rope snapping and getting wrapped up in the wheel joint etc. But i think a length of rope in the boot just in case is a great idea.

  • I wonder if you could use this method using a length of chain?

  • @gwynnypig I do, but it scratches your rims. For this year, i got some clothesline cable instead.

  • @gwynnypig keep watching our videos as we will be trying chain as soon as it snows

  • Hey ive done this before it works great but the police stopped me and gave me a ticket as this is illegal they told me can impair stopping distance, utterly crazy i did challenge it but was still deemed illegal. But its a cheap alternative to snowchains which always burst no matter how expensive they are.

  • @Azureecosse if anything when we done this there was a good 4 inches of snow on the road and it did help me to stop better rather than impair it please check out my other video as it shows us trying them out and there is no way i would of got up the hill let alone

  • Great idea, congrulations
