Obviously you would hear Vin Scully's call of this Home Run considering that Hank Aaron hit the Home Run against the Dodgers.
Hank Aaron entered the 1974 Season with 713 Lifetime Home Runs. After hitting number 714 on Opening Day in Cincinnati, tying "The Babe" lifetime, Hank Aaron was not to play again until the Braves went home to Atlanta.
With the strick zone opened in 1962 began a holly decade of pitcher's dominance, and precisally in that time Hank Aaron became the home run's king, my father always told me that the negro pitchers gave the ball easy to him, because they wanted Aaron ahead of Ruth in the records list........it will be interesting to check out the stadistics of Mr. Aaron batting agains Black and White pitchers, maybe my old man was rigth.......
U.S. Congressman, abolitionist,"Father of the 14th Amendment" John Bingham, confirms understanding & construction Framers used re birthright & jurisdiction
House of Reps 3/9 1866:
"I find no fault with the introductory clause which is simply declaratory of what is written in the Constitution, that EVERY HUMAN BEING BORN within the jurisdiction of the United States OF PARENTS NOT OWING ALLEGIANCE TO ANY FOREIGN SOVEREIGNTY IS,in the language of your Constitution itself,A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN"
It is unfortunate that Scully chose to clumsily drag race into an historic moment such as this. Only the dullest of persons would have not understood the nature of the moment if Scully had simply said "And Henry Aaron is receiving a standing ovation from this Atlanta Georgia crowd as he has just broken one of the hallowed records of major league baseball". But no he has to tell us that Hank Aaron is "black" (doh) and that it is a "deep south" crowd. Heavy handed and not up to Scully's standard.
@Kram6298 You have to look at it in the context of the times (early 70s, just a few years removed from the killing of Dr King), and the racist hate Aaron endured leading up to this moment. When you take that into consideration...I think Scully's comments put this moment into an important perspective.
Scully at his finest. Whether it be Koufax's perfect game, The 86' Buckner call or the Gibson Homerun; some of the best moments in baseball were made that much greater by having Vin behind the Mic. Vin represents everything that is good in baseball.
@whoseaaron true but aaron was also facing tougher pitching for the most part, ruth was way ahead of his time he was like a super human back then compared to most of the best in his day.
I remember this moment as a child. Today, I shed some tears because this was a grand moment, not only for Aaron but the way that sport casters respected the game.
As a loyal Atlanta Braves fan, and lover of Hank Aaron, I REALLY appreciate your posting this, 55JAMESAG. I remember seeing Milo's play-by-play live as a little boy. Seeing a video like this makes me wish that, for some historical sports moments, be a sportscaster!
I love him
