I like the Jeep's smaller size because it's better for maneuvering in tight places, but... get the FJ if you want reliability. That's just the way it is.

@Nytowl7 Mate, I know how you feel? Toyota just released these here in Australia, and what I think is that Toyota were stupid NOT to release a DIESEL model of these. Heck it's built on the PRADO chassis, so why can't they drop the 1KD-FTV motor in it, just like the diesel Prado?
Apparently a 1KD-FTV conversion can be done on these things. Google "Dieseltoyz" and see what I mean, pity it's a US website.

This thing is mostly made to go off roading, if you knew the slightest thing about cars or trucks then you wouldn't really judge on which is better because they all have their flaws.

I LOVE my FJ, remember this is meant to be a all terrain vehicle, not a plush SUV, not a green gas miser, I have 2011 4X4 with off road pkg, comes with synthetic oil, change every 10,000 miles,all have back up camera now, I have taken it out after bad snow storms being one of the first out, with pulling out other 4X4, going about with great ease, is very very smooth around town, can get louder on x-way. VERY RUGGED feeling, loves going off pavement, I think it smiles when you turn on dirt road.

I've had a Jeep and now own an FJ. Loved how the wrangler turned and I could take the top off anytime I wanted but the FJ just makes more sense for the everyday person. It's quiet on the road but still gets the job done offroad. I'll pick the FJ everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

@drummerblade The H2 is a Tahoe essentially, which are known to be beasts off road. and the H3 is the same, if not better than the wrangler rubicon. Though, the 2-door rubicon is slightly better because its a box and we all know boxes go over things much easier than rectangles.
Yeah that happens when you put a heavy car in sand. Was it an H2 or H3? I won't defend either one of them but an H1 Hummer will go a lot of places even FJ's and Rovers won't if given a skilled driver.
@RovingLandRover naw man. as much as i like the versatility of the defender, this job was certainly best suited for a wrangler. we BARELY made it out there in our jeeps. i was suprised that the FJ even made it back that far. the trail (at places) couldnt have been more than 5 or 6 feet wide before going over the edge. it was pretty hairy. im not saying the defender couldnt get back there, im saying that getting the rig turned around would have been a REAL bitch. ill post a video for ya.
FJ's have their place, but Yesterday we recovered an FJ Cruiser that went over a cliff 60 ft. down into a riverbed. it would have been impossible to do without our Jeeps. the width of the trail plus the weight and location of the lost rig would have made it damn near impossible to do the job with any other vehicle. long live Jeep. (1993 YJ wrangler, 4" lift, 33" mud terrain tires, stock 4.0L motor, Warn M8274-50 winch.)

my mom has a 2006 jeep rubicon, and my stepmom has a 2007 FJ. I will say that the FJ is more stylish, and definately more modern than the jeep is. I dislike the amount of plastic within the interior of the FJ, too much injection molding.
I am not sure of the offroad capabilities for the FJ, but the jeep has never gotten stuck. Id say that the comparison is a toss up that comes down to personal preference
@puroresu69 I usually get about 140ish miles on a quarter tank; with 87 octane, I saw a little more than 126. It still ran great and there weren't any noticable performance issues.

@drummerblade The H2 is a Tahoe essentially, which are known to be beasts off road. and the H3 is the same, if not better than the wrangler rubicon. Though, the 2-door rubicon is slightly better because its a box and we all know boxes go over things much easier than rectangles.

Yeah that happens when you put a heavy car in sand. Was it an H2 or H3? I won't defend either one of them but an H1 Hummer will go a lot of places even FJ's and Rovers won't if given a skilled driver.

@RovingLandRover naw man. as much as i like the versatility of the defender, this job was certainly best suited for a wrangler. we BARELY made it out there in our jeeps. i was suprised that the FJ even made it back that far. the trail (at places) couldnt have been more than 5 or 6 feet wide before going over the edge. it was pretty hairy. im not saying the defender couldnt get back there, im saying that getting the rig turned around would have been a REAL bitch. ill post a video for ya.

FJ's have their place, but Yesterday we recovered an FJ Cruiser that went over a cliff 60 ft. down into a riverbed. it would have been impossible to do without our Jeeps. the width of the trail plus the weight and location of the lost rig would have made it damn near impossible to do the job with any other vehicle. long live Jeep. (1993 YJ wrangler, 4" lift, 33" mud terrain tires, stock 4.0L motor, Warn M8274-50 winch.)

my mom has a 2006 jeep rubicon, and my stepmom has a 2007 FJ. I will say that the FJ is more stylish, and definately more modern than the jeep is. I dislike the amount of plastic within the interior of the FJ, too much injection molding.
I am not sure of the offroad capabilities for the FJ, but the jeep has never gotten stuck. Id say that the comparison is a toss up that comes down to personal preference

This is a very nice car. Kind of like a smaller Hummer. And it's not that expensive. I want one.

@puroresu69 I usually get about 140ish miles on a quarter tank; with 87 octane, I saw a little more than 126. It still ran great and there weren't any noticable performance issues.

Good vehicle, but the gas is an expense.

The you obviously never paid attention. But the toyota hasn't been the only manufacturer to screw up. Remember the 1998 A-Class, that rolled over at 30mph and killed 50+ people. GM had the steering rack problems that killed another 50+ people and then there was Ford with the axles that broke off and killed I don't know how many.

How do you like it so far? I happen to think Toyota's small cars suck. Just too much cost cutting lately. The Tacoma and FJ seem to be pretty damn sweet though if you can get past the crappy fuel economy. I imagine you are having a lot of fun off road with that thing.
