  • pause it at 9:38, what was this taped over!?

  • @cvrbbyo hahaha i see three hands digging into some kind of nausiating void

  • @cvrbbyo That's the birth of the Hellborn Elfchild!

  • great!

  • I remember buying this on VHS off the streets of NYC in '92. It was much better than any cassettes I had at the time and fit well with my Donkey Kong Jr. NES.

  • this is an old treasure. i'd like to see mike bring back the swing 8:53

  • id rather listen to a fish than phish

  • where did you find this?!? were you there? this is amazing!

  • i can so relate to that one guy in the crowd just standing with his hands on his head it reminds me of how i felt at my first show

  • @pheelinphishy14 ... exactly (see 13:18) - what a great feeling.

  • wow - ah the good ol' early nineties - fresh as a daisy for us born in the (early70s) & getting our first tastes

  • i love watching the crowd in this

  • love it! the riff is sweet!

  • If you can't respect PHISH, you can't respect yourself

  • The closest the dead ever got to composing something like this was terrapin station. The dead got famous as a result of the movement, of forces external to the band. Were it not for the acid tests and the vietnam war the dead wouldnt have had the following they did. Phish had no war, they had no era defining social movement. Theyre rampartly apolitical and created their own world (gamehenge) and got famous by word of mouth and by virtue of their music alone.

  • @marklarvickar phish got famous and is still piggy backing off of the culture that the dead following created. without the dead there would not have been phish. Trey even told this to Bob Weir himself at the forum on music. that being said they are both great bands and they are completely different musically.

  • @marklarvickar soo trueee you pointed it out exactly my friend, people hate on phish for no reason, phish is not the grateful dead, phish and the grateful dead know this, they're both completely different bands and shouldn't be criticized, they are both here for one reason and thats the music and their virtues

  • . . . . . .always wondered about the sets of hands reaching into the innards of some heinous thing @ 9:39 . . . . . .Was this taped over some kind of surgery video?

  • All these lazy ass shit talkers have alot to say but not alot to do. If you dont like it, don't go, or change it. Bring back the old times, its the the best time for this. Our government is as sick and twisted as its ever been, they made real change just by being themselves, why can't we. Is this what the world has come to, talking shit? Its quite pathetic that everyone runs their mouths but does nothing to change it. Americans, pfffft. We lost our ways, hopefully not for good though.

  • phish heads are overachievers and deadheads are under achievers. so what's a phish phan that is a deadhead? A: bipolar

  • @Imspacedbro I have a phd in physics, and im the biggest hippy you will meet. I love phish and I LOVEEE Grateful Dead. So am I bipolar? Because I feel pretty happy to be alive. You are just another shit talking dick that either hates his own life and puts others down to cheer himself up, or you just have absolutely no time on your hands. Get a job or a hobby sir. Thanks. PEACE and godbless all you poor people that can't get over your ego. I truely feel sorry for you. Be happy and love life.

  • @emoleexx talk about someone who can't take a joke.

  • @emoleexx if anything fluffhead IS bipolar. and it would be an interesting thesis to hear how you think not.

  • @Imspacedbro do you wanna be more than friends, Imspacedbro? I lost yer phone number again too, send it to my Email like you did last time ok? Wait, we texted. So it should be in my phone still. I loved when you sent me a pic of that fat cock. You said penis was nice too, but small. You said thats how you like em tho lol. I can't wait to see you again baby. <3<3 .....P.S. You would never strike me as a gay person like me, I hope yer not married cause I loved when you said you wanted to marry me

  • @emoleexx jesus christ. POP POP POP POP SWALLOW (watson).......I hope I don't wake up with a broken boom box this time.

  • you def gotta post more from this show if you have any more vids.....sound quality aint great but seeing any old vids like this is fuckin great, thanks relariel

  • Wish I could have followed them on tour back in their prime, they're so badass =]

  • Funny that everyone in that audience are Deadheads. I remember going to see Phish around this time and the crowd came in VW buses and everyone had dead stickers on the cars. The Clifford Ball was Phish's coming out party, being Jerry had just died, and the crowd jumped on the Phish tour. Honestly, since 94-99, the boys haven't sounded better than they did this past year in 10. They were REALLY tight this year...

  • @Yoseman1

    wrong!

deadheads don't give a flying phuck about these losers!

only late era fake hippies and frat boys to the gd scene that wanted funj, party time moved onto fish.

they never saw real gd and don'y even really know the music

they just like driking, drugs and fucking aroiund in a crowd

real older deadheads either don't even know this band or hate them

  • @jojojigaboo This is true. You just described me to a tea. Im pretty happy and content being this. I wish I could have seen the dead when they were around. Unfortunatly, I wasnt born in the greatest era of the twentieth century. Hopefully we can live in peace.

  • @jojojigaboo not smelly enough to be a deadhead. some of dont like country music pal. The deadhead scene is done its been done since jerry died. It used to be cool but its not anymore mostly old dopesick creeps that hit on younger girls. Jerrys dead and that really sucks but the only reason Trey is the best is because Jerry isnt around to compete

  • @SativaBeliver it died when Pig Pen Died not when Jerry Died

  • @jojojigaboo Thats what its all about. Im not a frat boy, nor am I a fake hippy. For one, LEARN TO SPELL, its not that hard buddy. I know alot of old heads, and let me tell you that alot of them like phish. Its another talented band, the hippy scene died compared to what it used to be. Well, what I'm saying is, lets stop bitching about all the fakeness, and do something about it, you lazy shit talkers. Change the scene to your liking, its very possible, especially now. Lets bring it back man!!!

  • That my friends is images from the worst hippie of all. the college" know it all " hippie who not only took vidieo of THE SURGERY also had skills in video editing.

"did you eat the brownies? "

  • i am the fluffy fluff head

  • fuck yeah with the mike spinning.. 8:53

  • AWsome video until 938 ewwwwww

  • its funny that people will waste thier time talking crap about them, and obviousily linking to and watching thier videos. Phish does with out a doubt have many styles that influenced them, and jazz is absolutely one of them. They are an amazing band!

  • Fluffhead was a man they knew in real life. He was dying of cancer and had chemo "fluff head" hair. This song is basically just Phish making fun of a cancer patient.

  • A little more dancing room in the front few rows, huh? I really miss these days!!

  • @jojojigaboo, clearly you know nothing about music, and have never seen phish live if you think everyone is just there to get high. i'd argue this further, but i try to live by a quote that i believe comes from abraham lincoln: "never argue with a fool in public, because nobody will be able to tell the difference." as for you, you should take some other advice from lincoln: "tis better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."

  • trey composed and conducted a symphony. he is a musical genius and an incredible song writer, you are and idiot.

  • @jammin6491

y u fiucking losers so in luv w this ugly ass nobody

    " e genius"

lol..way to throw that word around.

    yeah "fluffhead" = genius

    ahahahahah

  • @harpua76, Lincoln would have loved Phish!

  • @harpua76 Well said :)

  • WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK IS THAT AT 9:39??

  • It's weird that phish headlines entire stadiums and people follow them all over the country but none of their videos have more than 300,000 views.

  • @opticage its cause they have a following they dont need to look up videos if there at every show

  • @opticage

that's because the dumbass fans really only like the scene - jumping around and talking like morons and getting high.

the music blows. people don't actually sit around and listen to this shit do they?

  • Comment removed

  • @opticage

I wish you would;t mention The Dead w these assholes.

The Dead are hgreat musicians w great songs and great lyrics.

These guys are morons and their dumb phans try to pretend they are whatever.

    The jam bands stink IMO

Putting The Grateful Dead in that category is really not understanding GD though

  • @jojojigaboo Wow jojo and you obviously don't get Phish.. So i guess Phil Lesh is an moron for having Trey sit in on numerous shows? What about Neil Young wanting to tour with Phish after they jammed together at Farm Aide? Or Leo Kottke touring/recording with Mike Gordon. I could go on and on.. If you can't recognize the obvious talent these gentlemen posses then your your hatred/jealously/whatever has clearly blinded you.

  • @Z0rlack what annoys me is seeing the fans associate this band w GD. it is really insulting! nobody is jealous of "phish" - believe me. they bore the shit out of me. i think they are juvenile and boring. predictable. i watch GD vids and people talk about these guys in them. they link to these vids and talk about fish on GD stuff. it is fucking annoying! i am not the only one. no hate btw, i like the takei vid too :)
  • @jojojigaboo ARE YOU PHUCKING DEAF?

  • @jojojigaboo, just go somewhere else. Your comments make you sound stupid. Even Dead members like Phish. Jerry is laughing at you from his cloud, because you are making an ass out of yourself.

  • @opticage all the hippies that follow them can't afford computers

  • fluffy fluffy head, flufhead, sing it with me

  • life is just a bundle of joy?

  • i played on this stage to a lesser crowd.

  • I was wasn't even a year old when this was played! Oh the things I have missed out on!

  • i wonder if there were drugs being consumed.

  • As a guitarist as well as a drummer.....this song has to be the most challenging song to play live at a show. This song shows the fantastic ability of these musicians

  • Long ago, I had the bootleg for this show. I wasn't at this show, but many others of that time period. I miss the small venues/bars they used to play. Just not the same watching them at a large arena.

  • I entered a different realm when this was played at Indio

  • Wish i was there but i was only in 8th grade at the time, i have more than made up for up it though

  • I was concieved at a phish concert. I swear on everything I own....except my guitar.

  • you can hear the elements drenching out of them. like loose liquid from a wet towel. =)

  • it's funny when girls get jealous 4:30

  • How cool would it have been to see phish before they blew up?!

  • Wow, I was only a little kid for this.

  • OOOHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHH

  • You know all those creepy 40 year olds you see at Phish concerts now? These are those guys back in their younger days.

  • @MrClamberto theyre not creepy lmao

  • Gotta love this classic song and video!!! Some cool dancing too.

  • 9:38-9:39?

  • @biglovemonster - heh... strange, right? split second at 8:55, too...

  • @biglovemonster - heh... strange, right? split second at 8:55, too...

  • @biglovemonster kinda breaks the flow, right? I'm guessing tummy tuck.

  • haha........wtf?

it looks like someone was doing an operation. you might notice some hands with latex gloves and around it something that looks gross. XD i wonder why that appeared.

  • Yes yes, I don't know, it's a little bit... bizarre? I was all happy watching all that people dancing and then that...

  • Comment removed

  • what guitar was trey playing then???

  • it looks like it was the first of the two languedoc guitars he played

  • Good eye- I think it is one of his "Marley" guitars. Languedoc made him one with his dog Marley sitting down with "Im the Mar Mar" on the headstock. His backup had Marley chasing a flock of birds on the headstock. But to any effect, they were his earliest Languedocs.

  • He actually had one earlier Languedoc named "Old Reliable". This could be the guitar in the video. It one of his primary guitars until the second Marley guitar was made. But like I said, good eye.

  • @chechehall55 its def. a doc.

  • i pretty much went apeshit when they played this at Madison Square Garden on Thursday. PHUCK YEAH PHISH

  • yeah it was pretty awesome with msg floor moving and chris's lights, everyone was feeling that one, the dwd>piper segue jam right before it and the cities right after all together made my night for sure

  • Fluffhead in INdio was off the Charts craziest glow sticks going everywhere~peace and Portland esta noche

  • Yay semantics! I so love splitting hairs.

  • Nice!

  • Page side always, I MISS YOU GUYS

  • What classical elements?

You mean, aside from the fact that Trey used classical forms (such as the fugue) to compose a lot of their older stuff?

  • Its more like a phugue...less fugue. What else? Fugues are something of the Baroque era, not something that originated in the Classical. BACH is the Man!!!!

  • this song at Festival 8 in Indio, CA was INSANE@!@!!!!!!

  • what I love about Phish is the classical elements in the jams

  • What classical elements?

  • there is absolutely classical/jazz elements in all of their jams... its obviously fusion but... all in all its there.. and for anyone to say its not, has never played in a Classical Orchestra or Jazz Band... and im not talkin just high school band either..

  • @PUIncubus

u are so fucking full of it

    what classical "elements"

    please explain

this is garbage teenage party rock

just because the drums plays off sometimes on purpse and they play bullshit chords doesn't make it "classical" u fucking asshole!

u are the one that doesn't play music

u are just making shit up and any ral musician knows it!

this is fucking bullshit for dummies!

  • 9:40???????? some type of weird surgery being performed? hands going into a stomach? weirddddd

  • 09:38

Fat, bulk, expanse, mass, lump, block, clod indeed! Did one of those hippies dose me, or did a bunch of hands just get stuck into Page's cosmic guts?

  • everybodys in a world of their own. especially the guy with the white shirt who is motionless

  • great video! some really awful dancing going on, but everyone looks to be having an awesome time. thanks for putting this one up!

  • @darkstarou WTFFFFF AWFUL DANCING!!!!!??? dude stfu get outta here you dont get phish then

  • SICK!!! what the hell was that?

  • i was working after spending all my money on Dead tour the spring before. And what a tour it was!!!!!!!!!!!

Soring Tour 1989 maybe best ever?????

  • Wow... Trey's jedi skill were truly in full force even back then! Thanks for posting this gem!

    Boogie on..

  • I was born 7030 days before this video

  • If you watch this on mute, you'd almost think its an psuedo amish band. Hilarious!

  • I was born 9 months after this... my parents were there..... hmmmmm

  • @SadSmile87 i was born 2months and 11days before this....

damn weird to try and remember when you were 2months old.

but i may have loved this then too!!!!

  • @blackdeathslaber HAHAHA i was making a joke trying to say i was conceived at a phish concert... if only lol.

  • @SadSmile87 hahah i was born 9 months after this too. geeze i wish i could have experienced this. they threw down so hard this show.

  • @SadSmile87 I'm sure you were their vivacious little bundle of joy, were you knot, eh?

  • @SadSmile87 I toured with them for at least 40 shows and this song has got to be one of the best ever

  • @esquevel7 So wish i could experience this in person!! jealous much!

  • @SadSmile87 youre an ewok! a baby wook!

  • @poop7217 HAHA i guess i am. lol

  • 9:40 there's a frame of some kind of surgery being performed, wtf?!

  • dude your right....what is that? talk about random

  • holy crap that funny on mute

  • Well, hell I was 27, but I had already seen a lot of concerts!!

  • I graduated high school 300 days before this.

  • i was born 1293 days after this

  • I was born 1,233 days before this

  • I was born 880 days after this.

  • Wow, you have quite a musical journey and life education in front of you, of which Phish is only a small sliver.

  • i was born one day before this.

  • this is awesome

  • this is magical.

  • A hot ember forever

  • lol this was a couple days after i was born

  • f'ing 1990...yea dudes.

  • great tune

  • Whats up with 9:39sec

  • i think its someone digging into a dead bodies stomach... kinda gross..

  • ok, that is not what it is at all.

  • Beautiful as always. :-)

  • You have to respect the kid up front in the yellow jacket. Constant dancing, nothing fancy. A relative Mensa compared to those around him. Slow, but steady wins the race.

  • fluffhead is a super tune well as the whole first album...a true masterpiece

  • fluffhead wasnt on the first album but it was early

  • it was on the first album, Junta, fo sho

  • i checked wikipedia n junta was third album

  • maybe you're thinking of the white tape, which is super early stuff but wasn't officially released til '98. & Then "The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday (a.k.a. gamehenge) which was Trey's senior thesis in college, but wasn't released as an album; Just tape that he turned in to the school as his final project. The first legit studio album that they sold was Junta. Whatever though! This has gotta be the nerdiest converstation ever!! Phish rules!!!!!

  • unless you count the white tape
