  • not to be rude but try chopping one of those woodchips thats been soaked and see how much water has actually soaked into the wood.. I used to soak all my chips but have since gone the other way and actually burn them down completely before I put the salmon/chicken/pork on.. anyway sure looks tasty!

  • awesome!

  • If you smoke a fish it'll make your head swim and give you a haddock. I write fish puns for the halibut. These puns are good for the sole. I never smoked a fish because I never pointed a gun at one.

  • Awesome video man, really helped, nice short way of smoking salmon! I'll have to try it next time I'm out on the water! Does it work just as well for trout too?

    Please get back to me.

    Thanks man

    Mike

  • hey John, thanks for the recipe. Some recipes suggest you brine the fish before smoking: what does this do / what purpose does this achieve? Also, do you have a recipe for hot smoked mackerel?

  • i have this smoker

  • @SirSleezy its not a smoker, its a charcoal bbq

  • It's refreshing to see a smoking post done by someone who knows what he's doing. Good job. I wated a lot of salmon before I learned that hot smoke is the only way to go for salmon. I noticed you didn't ruin it by soaking it in heavy salt brine for 12 hours lol.

  • Looks good thanks for the tips

  • thanks 4 this video

  • I tried this today Thank you Not only was I impressed but my wife said wow you know how to cook! WOMEN! The salmon came out so good Thank you again!

  • i had the same grill until someone stole it :(

  • i want to eat the smoke salmon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm curious, I do three to four week canoe trips up the coast of British Columbia and Alaska with only what I can carry in a 17' canoe. My problem is that I'm always trying to catch small salmon because, with no means to freeze what I dont eat, I dont want to be wasting massive hunks of salmon. Is there any method you can think of where I could smoke over a campfire with out having to take a huge bubble grill like the one you used?

  • Is your 'aluminum' foil, the same as aluminium foil?

  • Aluminum is just the American English way of saying "Aluminium" (the way Brits and Aussies say it).

  • Call it "Alum" for short. Hehi!

  • do you just smoke it or do you have to cook it more after that

  • thank god it was at the neighbours! haha, you must really like them (I am sure you didn't mean it that way, or did you?)

  • i was kidding

  • RED SOX UPDATE FOR CHEF JOHN: 11 Games ahead of Yanks! (July 4, We Won, They lost). Nice way to use ol' coal.

  • Unfortunately I'm a Giants fan :-( We stink. But thanks for the update.

  • So...what happened with that red sox comment a couple of videos ago?

  • what comment?

  • pro cook

  • lol. just wondering. do u have any italian blood in u?

  • yes, 50%

  • Hmmmm...Anyway to do this on a gas grill?

  • nope, go get a 20 dollar grill.

  • Great job, Chef. 5 stars for the veggieburger comment alone. Salmon looks great.

  • thanks chef

  • wow that looks so good, i am gonna try this tomorrow.

  • Though we'd all love to have one of those Green Eggs, one of the things that make your video so terrific is you use what the majority of us have access to, you could even do this at a tailgate party! Someday I hope you get that really fancy kitchen and yard, with a better barbecue. You deserve it!

  • Well, to be honest I'm happy with my 15 year old webber. If Nemo did donate to the site, I was just going to keep the cash. But, thanks!

  • lol, firetruck joke

  • Great one Chef John. I love old Webers, but I really had you pictured as a Big Green Egg man. Come on, you are an Internet SuperStar. You deserve it.

  • Yes I do... I would love a big green egg grill... do me a favor and go to the site, find the donation button on the sidebar, and give me one for my birthday!! Thanks. ;)

  • wow :D outdoor video

  • weber grills are near indestructible, I've seen a 30 year old one that goes to the beach every 2 weekends, and aside from the rust on the legs, the rest is new
