To each his own. The 1958 recording is certainly attractive and well-sung, but it lacks the incandescent passion and intensity of this one. I find the later version to be overly lachrymose; this is, after all, a lover's impassioned plea, and the heartache is much more in evidence here. The 1958 rendition was released on the "Mario!" album, a compilation of Neapolitan songs. It was reissued on CD some years ago and is still available today.
Hi - I also have this home movie clip and other rare clips (Mario attending Court etc) obtained through the Society I am a member of about twenty years ago.
There isn't a more passionate, powerful and simultaneously tender, beautiful singing voice other than his, no matter which song or aria is interpreted
I instantly know that THE FELLOW IN THE POOL IS TERRY ROBINSON, MARIO's BUDDY IN CALIFORNIA, TEACHING MARIO'S DAUGHTER TO SWIM. MARY AND TONY COCOZZA HIS PARENTS ARE IN THE CLIP ALSO AND MARIO's YOUNG SON ALSO AT THAT TIME. I HAVE THE SAME CLIP FROM FAMILY MOVIES AS I WAS A FAMILY FRIEND.
Absolutely unique voice

Forget Pavarotti, Domingo, even Caruso(no offense). Let's face it....
there's only one Mario! The vocal perfection, the soul, the unbridled
passion. To be a great tenor, he's all you need to listen to. Rest in Peace.

You must be his son to possess such rare recordings and videos. Either way, thank you so much for this. We are so spoiled to hear this.
