@dickpissington The movie was made in 1915, when the "racist" attitudes expressed in the film were the default views of most people. You can't judge it by looking at it from today's viewpoint. Context is important.
@trenchraider1 I see how you have a point there, but it's also difficult to say that something is normal or okay just because it's default. If a film is racist and most people are racist back then, that doesn't really make the film any better or less racist...
This movie might have been extremely inventive in exploring this(then) new medium, but it is truly a disgusting film, that indirectly took many lives.
@SwissGuard100 I guess if you're not American, you can be excused for not knowing. They're the Ku Klux Klan, as romanticized by this movie. This movie caused them to make a comeback in the 1920's. They are one of the ugliest chapters (two or three chapters, actually) of American history. Think of them as America's home-grown Nazis. They're still around.
This is the heart of American culture.

@trenchraider1 That is the kind of attitude that fostered the racism that existed when this movie was originally released.

@shaggybreeks How amusing.. his channel does say he's from the States. And jeez, I'm from Britain, and of course I know who the KKK are.
