yes, there is a wind of change in Vietnam...the 2nd fastest growing economy in the world. As far as you people trying to propagate another civil war within the Vietnamese community, it will never happen. You people who wear shirts that said "freedom for VN, you're way too ignorant, the Vietnamese were freed since 75'
pity video. i support burma's independence, however, your support for ly's terrorism is ignorance. "free vietnam" from what? trying freeing vietnam from agent orange before you you move on to burma hypocrites.
Burma fighting for democracy is since over 40 years ago, but the world has very little knowledge. in 1988 (Before China uprising) the Burma junta killed more than 3000 liefs on the streets.
Thanks alot for ur support Us (Burma). I have just knew that Vietnamese people were also still suffering like Burma and trying for Democracy. We, all people, needs free to talk, a better future for our countries and Justics for all ordinary people. we, as Burmese, Do hope for better changing for our countries Now. And also Do wish for all Vietnamese for Better Changing. Our hearts are with all of you as well.. :)
Vietnam will change. There is no question about it. But deep wounds from the war are still very strong. The people who sit in the government are still the one's flushed with socialist revolution 30 years ago. Their memories, passion, ideology, and hatred still direct the government. I agree with datadu that the new generation of Vietnamese youth will change Vietnam, especially the huge wave of Vietnamese students studying abroad right now. Their return will bring change, undoubtedly.
Additionally, are you saying that Vietnamese/Vietnamese-Americans are incapable of democracy? Are you pointing out the mob as a way of undercutting the community's potential as group of reasonable people?
Frankly, I don't support the ideas of Communist also. My point is that bringing democracy is not an appropriate as well as impossible thing to do now. It take time to make change, especially by the waves of Vietnamese overseas students, Vietnamese-American or anywhere else in the world when they come back. Viet Nam definitely is not all about communist. I love Vietnam as my ethnic identity, it's not because it's an communist state. Education, science, business etc is what the most important now.
Due to the astounding number of people who attend flag protests, not only in Orange County, but in any place with a large Vietnamese-American population, I'm going to have to disagree that somehow a "mob" is forcing people to recognize the heritage flag. The recognition and veneration of the heritage flag stems much further than support for a now defunct regime, but an affirmation of SVN's place in history and a shared ethnic identity independent from the current Communist state.
Wow, democracy run by mob rule with intimidating tactics in Orange County and force people to waive the flag of VNCH puppet regime set up by the U.S. Don't fool yourself with that Greek lexicon, you better check what Jefferson said about it. And who are the anti-communists here? Every single person of the country of Vietnam, including everyone in the Politburo down to any layman. By the way, I do sympathize for the people of Burma.
The Vietnamese-American community in Orange County hovers a little over half a million people. How can you possibly generalize every person who calls for democracy and an end to the human rights abuses with a rogue few who committed a crime a decade ago? Are we all the same because we share a common history/place of origin? Is every single Vietnamese-American who cries for change somehow related to the "death squad"?
As for the person who wrote about "anti-communist" death squads, wow you've been reading a little too much Nick Schou. He loves that example of a journalist murdered by a so called "death squad" in the mid-1980s or so when the journalist's daughter, herself, said it didn't have to do with his politics. Even if he was killed by a death squad, we cannot conflate all Vietnamese-Americans with these radicals. (continued in another comment)
As for the relevancy of the video, I think the video is inspirational for many Vietnamese and Vietnamese-Americans who support the fledging democratic movements and labor protests in Vietnam. We see our neighbors demanding human rights, and we pray for their success so that the spirit of revolution can sweep through our homeland too.
I disagree that Vietnam has a weak foundation and needs government force. This argument implies that Vietnam would break into sectarian violence if it were not for the dominance of the Communist Party, which frankly isn't true. Vietnamese people have long perceived themselves as one nation; to allow for more than one political party in a country united by language, culture, and an shared ethnic identity is hardly shaking the country's foundations.
For all the times we stood by and stood down.....Now its not a time to just stand by ! Please help my people in Burma. They deserve a better life .....
Before you do anything, how about everyone do some research, instead of jumping sides. Democracy does not lead to freedom, look at Iraq, Haiti, and Africa. Vietnam has a weak foundation and needs the government force. Vietnam and Burma are two different levels of communism and should not be compared equally because they are both communists nation. So please educate yourself about the nation's history, economy, and politics before jumping into this heated issue.
It's such an irrelevant video! I totally agree with Starwins. There is no link between politic situation in Burma and Viet Nam now. Please take a political science class before jumping to comment about politics. Singapore can be considered a country without fully democracy but let see how it has succeeded so far. It much depends on a lot of factors to bring democracy to a country, especially developing country. If not, it can turn out to be a disaster!

Great, give me negative remarks because I speak the truth. We all know the hardcore anti-communist death squad in Orange County murdering people for speaking the truth. Before comparing Burma with Vietnam, you should ask yourself if the Burmese think it's suitable. I don't see people comparing the Holocaust with the Pol Pot Genocide. Stop living in the 70s of the 20th century.
Very touching and moving to see the human waves in Burma crying out for human rights and democracy.
Their peaceful message transmits from heart to heart resulting in huge energy and impact for change in Burma.
Today 5/10/07 people in Sydney, Australia, is holding a mass prayer in support for the people in Burma.
Vietnam is very similar to Burma with millions victims of injustice under the communist regime and i believe the wind of change will come to Vietnam soon.
Misleading clip. The people protesting in Vietnam held the banner: Provincial leaders lie to the party and people. Furthermore, I don't see many people of a nation where majority are Buddhists call a priest "Father", people with other religions address a priest "Linh Mục" not "Cha" or Father in English. It can be an insult when you neglect the audience come from diverse background.
We the youth, maybe the key role to what may seem like an endless fight to liberate the people of VietNam. We have to stand up, and get as many young Vietnamese to care about our country and aware of the current state the CS of VietNam has brought our country too. When attending these protest, we should voice our thoughts. If one young person gets inspired every time we do so, we've accomplished our mission"
The answer to that is, need I remind you, there are so many CS nam vung that we don't even know of yet. Of which their main goal is to discourage any participants whom they feel can threaten nha cam quyen CS in VN by our movement her in the states.
Second, if what we the young demonstrator's are doing isn't creating awareness, than why have we been getting press? N why have the viet gians in the cong dong been trying to discourage our participation?
"To all, I know that many would say that it's a waste of time to attend bieu tinhs. But I can ASSURE you, that it isn't. Why? Our point of being there is to raise awareness, encourage and call out the Vietnamese youths to stand along side may nguoi lon who've risked everything so that we could have the freedoms, and opportunities we currently have here in the U.S.
