I know this opinion may offend long-time Halloween/Jamie L-C fans but I actually think Scout's performance as Laurie Strode was superior to JLC's.

Scout brought life to the role and came across as likeable without being unrealistic/perfect. She also brought real emotion, which I always felt JLC lacked in the original and whilst I believe that the movie wasn't perfect, I think that Scout was an ideal choice for Laurie and she gave a solid performance throughout the entire movie.
