@zKyl3z Because it's an obvious clone of Minecraft, people will instinctively compare it to Minecraft, and in comparison to Minecraft, even at 1.0, this can't hold a candle. Minecraft classic is free in-browser and far better than what this offers for three dollars. The only thing this has going for it is the higher-res textures, but they're ruined by the particle and lighting effects, and you can get high-res texture packs for Minecraft anyway. Also, it's not a donation if you charge for it.

Just because it shares a rendering technique, doesn't mean it is a clone. You ASSUME that it is a clone because there are few games that use this rendering technique (which was actually Infiniminer's in the first place.) Saying Minecraft is better than FC is like favoring a fetus because it is more developed.

And by the way, yeah, most FPS games nowadays are basically just the same thing over and over again. But that's not the point. I assume it's just a clone because 1) it's got a very similar name, 2) the look of the game is very similar, 3) Minecraft is very popular and could easily attract imitators, and 4) if you listen to interviews the guy says he modeled it after Minecraft.

@kilkun Videos are enough to get the feel of a game like this. It's not like it's an action game where the controls are a big factor in how the game feels. Also, graphical upgrades aren't enough to claim that a game is different. You can remake a game with better graphics, like with Tomb Raider or something, but it's still the same thing. Relics are a unique idea, I'll give you that, but most of them are inconsequential, and Minecraft has similar things now with the dungeons anyway.

@a1b2m13 Actually, surprisingly the game feels quite different than the videos suggest. Anyways, some of the relics are actually helpful, like the head lamp, jet pack, speed boots and such. The game also has a server browsing list, which is tons more convenient than knowing the IP. Not a big deal, but still is a nice feature.

The thing is, I don't really care that it's a clone; it's on a different platform, after all, and as you said Minecraft did the same thing with Infiniminer. The difference is that Minecraft took the formula and improved it, did different things with it, and even when it first came out it was overall very well designed. Fortresscraft takes the formula and instead of innovating hastily slaps together a buggy, poorly-designed imitation to cash in off XBLA.

Minecraft didn't so SHIT with the world generation, at least Fortress Craft had a different seed system. Fortress Craft took the rendering style, made a fun game, and then suddenly, he did it for the cash or he slapped together a game. Do you know how hard it is to program a game from scratch? How hard it is to write an engine?

I'm talking about the green filler textures that pop up whenever you dig because the game doesn't load fast enough. I'm talking about the lighting system that doesn't create darkness in enclosed spaces. I'm talking about the general quality of the various systems in the game. None of them match up to Minecraft's. And yeah, it's hard to make a game, but that's not an excuse for poor quality.
