Don't get me wrong, I love ALL Zelda games, but there is something that's so much...scarier about the first few ones. Like this fight in the middle of nowhere!
tbh it is allot more epic to fight this guy with just the master sword and shield it may be tougher but that is what makes it more challenging and epic wish he was in skyward sword

Every time I crouch shield and stab, or just crouch shield, Dark Link backflips. This can actually be used to corner him near a wall/door, and slash him.
The best way to do it without any magic power or Din's Fire, (or a hookshot), is to encounter each others' attack and then hit him with the Megaton Hammer. The next time he appears, all you have to do is to keep hitting him with the Hammer he won't defend himself this time. keep doing it until he dies. I did it without losing any damage.
And I don't normally do this but... thumbs up so people can see.

@Warxoth There are two ways to do it with only the Master Sword, and I think you should be able to find demonstrations of them on YT here, but they're no less cheap. The first uses jump attacks to make Dark Link leave himself open, and the second requires you to catch him with the tip of your sword during the third swing in the vertical three-slash combo.
@Warxoth You can lowguard and stab at his feet, I got him that way, got hit once coz he spawns behind you after you get hit ofcourse. And I used 14 hearts, not the quarter heart trick.

so i never understood this fully: does dark link have the same amount of health as you do, or is it proportional to your health at the time of the battle? or does he just have a fixed health?
@Donut117 He has the same amount of hearts as you have max (not current) and each hit with the Master Sword, Megaton Hammer, or Din's Fire will do one heart of damage to him.
Just letting you guys know. The hammer doesn't work for whatever reason for some. Blocks it every time and actually just starts attacking. Just saying video helps
@camschip that's my experience, too. are you playing it on n64? i'm playing it on wii. i don't remember if i was able to beat him with the megatron hammer back when i played it on n64. possibly a glitch?

In th 3ds version i beat him inlike 6 hit with tge biggorons sword. I think he was tougher back in th day. I just wish i could face him again like the other bosses

I just finished Ocarina having not played it for ten years. I killed Dark Link with the Megaton Hammer which I really regret because it made it so easy and took all the fun out of the fight.
I never played Ocarina as a child, but I did know pretty much everything about the whole game. One thing I didn't know was where you fight Dark Link, so when I reached his room in the Water Temple in OoT 3D, I made an extremely constipated sounding groan. On the train. :P

I recently noticed he got more solid as time goes on and more aggressive I thought that was just from hitting him a lot at first. I am having the hardest time beating him I've tried every type of sword attack and weapon I have and he either blocks or dodges it and may even counter. Yes he blocks the megaton hammer EVERY TIME lol. I can't even hit him once or at the beginning of the fight but I only have 3 hearts as my max hp. Is he tougher if you are more skilled at the game?
I never got Dins fire (and I was stuck as adult link cause I never beat the forest temple so I couldn't get it anyways) but actually I managed to beat him using only the master sword without Z targeting by slashing away. It's easier to hit him that way and I got hurt but I guess I damaged him more. I only had to hit him like 3 -4 times since he only has the same amount of hearts as you.
Another way to defeat him is using an uncharged magic spin attack (done by moving the Control Stick quickly in a circling movement + pressing A), which he will dodge, and immediately afterwards throwing a Deku Nut. Dark Link will be unable to dodge the nut (as he will still be busy avoiding a hit from the Magic Spin attack) and will get stunned. This is the moment you can hit him with a random attack.
Link vs Dark Link, Master Sword to Dark Sword. No hammers or magic or anything else. THAT is the way this battle should take place. The only way worthy of the Hero of Time
If you have the biggoron sword, the one that doesn't break, you can kill him in five hits without using the hook shot and you can block with it without giving shadow the ability to use his shield as well. He also can't jump on you sword and give you damage with no saves.
Good method, but megaton hammer worked out very well for me. I tried fighting him and ended up running from him for a while, then I decided to get really mad and want to hammer his face in. Guess what. It's WORKED!!! XD
to successfully use the megaton hammer on dark link, DO NOT L-TARGET HIM. IN FACT, NEVER L-TARGET HIM. he mimics you, so it stands to reason that when you l-target him, he mimics that too. You're in for an easy fight if you avoid it.
When I did this on N64 I just blocked with the shield and then jump attacked him and he couldnt block it. Had to get the timing right I think (its been awhile)
I really want to see a no damage fight of him while doing it like a man meaning using only the master sword. also no tricks just fight with no strategy and no damage.

WOW! When I clicked the link I was expecting you to use Din's Fire! There was NO way I saw this coming! Believe it or not, I actually beat him with just the Master Sword once. I wanted to see if I could defeat Dark Link without using anything but the Master Sword. I kept clashing with different slashes and rapidly tapping the B button. I didn't use thrusts though because of that crazy maneuver he'd do. This took forever, btw. The downside is I took some hits trying to do it, though.
for some reason none of these are working for me, is it cause im playing it on gamecube on the master quest disc or that? cause im not actually playing master quest and everytime i use the hammer he blocks he dosent block dins fire and the hookshot hes not rolling hes just diving backward
@666satanicliam666 I haven't tested this on the Master Quest disc at all, but I wouldn't think it would matter. Did you make sure to clash swords with him before using the Hookshot? If you don't do that, he won't let you get close.
The hammer isn't a surefire way to hit him. He'll block it a lot, but it's still more likely to get through than the Master Sword is normally.

Honestly, i never noticed that Dark Link got more solid/darker as the battle progressed until I read your description. This is actually considered a glitch (dont bitch) because this technique involves no skill. (what im trying to say is that it is EXTREMELY easy once you know how to do this.)
@utter77771 A glitch is an error in the game's programming and has nothing to do with skill. The crouch stab using your last inflicted damage value instead of normal sword damage, for example, is a glitch. This is just manipulating the AI.
I'll try to follow that. I always did the biggoron method but I want to beat him with the master sword. Is it me or does he dodge EVERY spin move and din's fire attack. He did that yesterday and I was pissed especially since I took him so lightly
@McCloudster0015 He'll always "dodge" spin attacks no matter what, even if they go right through him. With Din's Fire, you just have to be close enough that he can't get out of range in time.
throw lots of deku nuts and paralyze him and do a charge spin attack when he is paralyzed throw more deku nuts and when your ready charge your spin attack quickly

This is the most well-researched OoT Dark Link guide I've heard of. I like that there's a good way to beat him with the Master Sword. If he becomes fully solid, does the method showing in the video no longer work at all, or do you have to just be really fast?

I think it's possible to get him to back flip by walking forward at him. He back flips when you get too close. Hookshot seems to be quicker though.

I used the Biggoron's sword and killed him easily in 30 seconds. He rarely blocks your attacks. Din's fire can also be used.

WOW! When I clicked the link I was expecting you to use Din's Fire! There was NO way I saw this coming! Believe it or not, I actually beat him with just the Master Sword once. I wanted to see if I could defeat Dark Link without using anything but the Master Sword. I kept clashing with different slashes and rapidly tapping the B button. I didn't use thrusts though because of that crazy maneuver he'd do. This took forever, btw. The downside is I took some hits trying to do it, though.

for some reason none of these are working for me, is it cause im playing it on gamecube on the master quest disc or that? cause im not actually playing master quest and everytime i use the hammer he blocks he dosent block dins fire and the hookshot hes not rolling hes just diving backward

@666satanicliam666 I haven't tested this on the Master Quest disc at all, but I wouldn't think it would matter. Did you make sure to clash swords with him before using the Hookshot? If you don't do that, he won't let you get close.
The hammer isn't a surefire way to hit him. He'll block it a lot, but it's still more likely to get through than the Master Sword is normally.

An easier way to kill him is to just keep attacking with the megaton hammer.
he can't attack or dodge because the boss wasn't programmed to be able to mimic c button items.

Honestly, i never noticed that Dark Link got more solid/darker as the battle progressed until I read your description. This is actually considered a glitch (dont bitch) because this technique involves no skill. (what im trying to say is that it is EXTREMELY easy once you know how to do this.)

@utter77771 A glitch is an error in the game's programming and has nothing to do with skill. The crouch stab using your last inflicted damage value instead of normal sword damage, for example, is a glitch. This is just manipulating the AI.

I'll try to follow that. I always did the biggoron method but I want to beat him with the master sword. Is it me or does he dodge EVERY spin move and din's fire attack. He did that yesterday and I was pissed especially since I took him so lightly

@McCloudster0015 He'll always "dodge" spin attacks no matter what, even if they go right through him. With Din's Fire, you just have to be close enough that he can't get out of range in time.

@Desbreko thats not true i hit him a good 4-5 times with spin attack when fighting him
on another note i beat dark link using skill =] no hammer, dins fire, big goron sword, or wild attacking. Just me with a sword

For the record, the broken Medigoron sword also goes right through its defenses. It's pretty weak, but can't be countered by Dark Link.

Hey everyone I know a glitch with Dark Link...
Here's the steps.
1) Hit him with a Deku Nut and paralyze him.
2 Stab him and allow him to get on top of your sword.
3) Wait until the Deku Nut effect wears off.
If done correctly, you should see him stealth his sword. Now he he will not swing his sword anymore, which will make the fight easier.

throw lots of deku nuts and paralyze him and do a charge spin attack when he is paralyzed throw more deku nuts and when your ready charge your spin attack quickly

This is the most well-researched OoT Dark Link guide I've heard of. I like that there's a good way to beat him with the Master Sword. If he becomes fully solid, does the method showing in the video no longer work at all, or do you have to just be really fast?
