@Smb12321, I don't think everyone will grow and consume all their own food but maybe a good portion. The information age and cell age has made it fun and easy. We selected the tropics because it makes it easy too. We are blessed with free sun and good rainfall and nice soil to carefully manage. Actually our Biospharms design is high production and low labor using appropriate tech. Solar, cistern, wind, and some good old fashion labor. It's pretty nice and fun. But not for everyone.
Our problems in america are too big now. The only way out is a huge crash. If the government would get out of the way things would have been tough but liveable. How in the world can a single mom like myself afford to buy any silver or gold, when I can't even make it paycheck to paycheck???????? I think the cheapest way I have found to store food long term is the following: 50 pound bag of Wheat berries for 33 bucks at Bobs Red Mill. food grade bucket at home depot 2 bucks *you will need two for each bag. Mylar bag liner 2 bucks and then "Hot Hands" Hand warmer is a buck. Do this whenever you can, soon you will have decent shtf starage that will give you all the vitamens you need (if berries are sprouted in mason jars)

You activate them, put them in a mylar bag filled with lental beans or whatevrer and it sucks all the air out for 15yr shelf life.

The prices are often a dollar or two over what it is selling for on the open market.. today silver sold for 18.31$. As gold is much higher in price, it is often out of the reach of the average joe. Purchase rounds or 1 oz ingots... they are easier to transport. Research the company. That is all.

I disagree, gold is still an asset that can lose or gain value depending on its use. Just like oil, just like food, it's an asset that can lose or gain in value depending on what you compare it too be it currency or another asset.
Gold in relation to other assets changes value but so does currency. Austrian economics would like you to believe that gold doesn't change because they would like it to be a currency but it isn't true, it changes aswell. If I have 2 apples worth a piece of gold there is nothing stopping me from wanting 2 pieces of gold for them 2 pieces of apple.

@Smb12321, I don't think everyone will grow and consume all their own food but maybe a good portion. The information age and cell age has made it fun and easy. We selected the tropics because it makes it easy too. We are blessed with free sun and good rainfall and nice soil to carefully manage. Actually our Biospharms design is high production and low labor using appropriate tech. Solar, cistern, wind, and some good old fashion labor. It's pretty nice and fun. But not for everyone.

Our problems in america are too big now. The only way out is a huge crash. If the government would get out of the way things would have been tough but liveable. Get supplies if you can and be smart and pray. Thing could get better in a few years. But if you have the means get out. Life is cheap and easy in places like Belize. @biospharms I also see absolutely no way to meet our obligations for the far (or near) future. And the saddest thing is that so many Americans are utterly clueless. I do hope we don't descend to raising our own food, fixing our homes, etc. The triumph of specialization is the triumph of civilization. When we all have to do everything, nothing will be done expertly.
And when you get down to it, the only thing that matters in the end is food. Will the gov't "allocate" food?

How in the world can a single mom like myself afford to buy any silver or gold, when I can't even make it paycheck to paycheck???????? The price of gasoline and food is astronomical for those of us on the low end of the totem pole, and takes a huge bite out of our resources. I WANT to store food, get off the grid, even purchase some type of protection like a rifle...but I cannot afford it. What sources are out here for we the working poor?

I think the cheapest way I have found to store food long term is the following: 50 pound bag of Wheat berries for 33 bucks at Bobs Red Mill. food grade bucket at home depot 2 bucks *you will need two for each bag. Mylar bag liner 2 bucks and then "Hot Hands" Hand warmer is a buck. Do this whenever you can, soon you will have decent shtf starage that will give you all the vitamens you need (if berries are sprouted in mason jars)

@MissPickletoes I dont remember what I wrote but Hot Hand warmers are a much better sub for oxygen absorbers because they dont go bad after a month like the ones you buy online. You activate them, put them in a mylar bag filled with lental beans or whatevrer and it sucks all the air out for 15yr shelf life.

@kikibortok you can buy either, when you purchase you must ensure you are purchasing the ingots, rounds... NOT paper certificates. silver needs to be from a reputable company such as Englehard. The prices are often a dollar or two over what it is selling for on the open market.. today silver sold for 18.31$. As gold is much higher in price, it is often out of the reach of the average joe. Purchase rounds or 1 oz ingots... they are easier to transport. Research the company. That is all.

Austrian economics would like you to believe that gold doesn't change because they would like it to be a currency but it isn't true, it changes aswell. @a2zhandi umm, no. the value of the dollar in purchasing power goes down, so it takes more dollars to buy the same quantity of gold; when the purchasing power of the dollar goes up, it takes fewer dollars to by the same quantity of gold. It's the currency that is changing, not the gold.

@a2zhandi In the 1950's you could buy a designer suit for one ounce of gold or 30 dollars. Today you can buy a designer mens suit for one ounce of gold, or 1,200 dollars. The value of gold has not changed relative to goods, only the value of the paper money we have used has changed. If your grandfather could have left you 30 dollars in his day or an ounce of gold, which would you chose?
