We decided to pay our credit cards off instead of going on the vacation we were planing. Which we would have incurred more credit card debt. It was so liberating to Have those monkeys off our backs. We use our debit card for all transactions now.
Thanks to my wife,we only have one credit card that is used in emergencies. We also have very little debt,we started living like this a couple years ago when things started going loony. We are some of the lucky few who are not buried in credit debt and high mortgage payments.
I haven't had a credit card for 7 years. I have used my debit card for purchases off and online and I can't tell you how much I love using it. It's like paying for something with a check or cash but your able to buy stuff at anytime like a credit card.
Well, another thing didn't they take your tax money to bail themselves out? and not only they used it to pay their CEOs but they are trying to make you pay their debt with your Finance charges in those credit cards!!! We need a regulation urgent!!!!
Not only they try to get you to use your "credit cards" again, but also these pigs raised their APR almost 100% more and if you do not like it then pay off "your whole debt within a month." Imagine those people who have thousands of dollars in credit cards???? are they going to pay them off or just take the 28% (Bank of America) increased? unfortunately if you are one of them you just have to stick with the raised.
Credit card companies will help you in case of a stolen card or identity theft, etc. My cards pay me to use them.
The only main problem with credit is if people don't have the discipline to pay them on time or buy extra stuff with them. Credit cards are just a tool. Tools can be used for both good and bad, but it is up to the user to do so.
Kiplinger has been giving people bad advice for years. They were scared of the stock market in the fall of 2002. In 2005 they recommended home builder stocks. Last year they promoted oil stocks before the crash. Earlier this year they said cash was king. Think for yourself and invest in something that you understand well.
My credit card company only protects me when I claim that my card has been lost or stolen; regardless of what really happened. I'm so sick of having to do that. I'm now relying on my cash at this point.
First video in a long time I totally agree with. Put the plastic away and use cash or your debit card. Plan you trips to do shopping, make a list and stick to it. Find small ways to same money coupons, sales, 2 4 1, bring a lunch, only light the room your in, only heat the room your in, up your deductibles on car insurance, start a rotating car pool, I've done all of this and can live on $900 a month.
That's fail dude. Your bank sucks if they won't back you up. My bank does not do home loans, my bank has cash, my bank has never borrowed bail out money. My bank will rip you a new one if you steal or use my debit card. I.E. ... get a new bank.
@vashguud: Keep in mind all those Federal Reserve notes your stuffing your bank account full of, soon enough will be worth the equivalent of toilet paper. So continue to praise your bank, however your being taken to the cleaners. Three words: Silver and Gold.

I agree that people should stop using credit cards but disagree that they should start using debit cards. They should start using cash. There is a huge risk that your bank account can be cleaned out if your debit card number is compromised. And yes, it will take about a month to have full acess to your funds again. So why take the risk? Use a credit card and pay it off every month like using cash. Or just use cash period.
private American citizens can't come anywhere close to outspending the Fed, so I say live it up and rack up that card. Your balance aint going to be worth a days wages in a few years the way the US buck is going.
So what difference is this from direct withdrawal? You are just one i the billions of the money game. All the banks need is 5% of people, 5% to pay on the due date and call it late and make hundreds of billions of dollars a year. The want everyone to use credit instead of debit because the change of non payment is better. A joke at best.
F/Y/I What really pisses me off about some debit cards is that they do not require the use of a PIN for every transaction. I purposefully send back debit cards with credit card logos and request a plain old ATM card--for which a PIN is required every time.
I do carry a credit card to use when a store says "you have to have a VISA/MC logo to pay by card," and I do pay it off. But I don't LIKE doing that. I'd rather just use a PIN every time if I opt for that protection.
after my debit card was fraudulently used, I reported it to bank & police-- soon after that bank replaced stolen money back into my account, but did so "provisionally" until their fraud unit reviewed the police findings, etc, & determined that in fact it was fraud -- so in fairness, I was hesitant to spend that provisional money. I think it took about 3-4 weeks or so before they made it official that I'd been victimized & therefore all the $ stolen was covered.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with everyone. You explained things very well and had supporting evidence and figures.

People who can't pay off their credit cards in full every month should only use debit cards. For those that can control their use of credit cards should get ones that have no fees and offer cash back. This can be a real money maker especially if you have high dollar transactions due to business. $500-$1000 cash back per year.
Isn't it ironic that the banks were originally meant to protect our money from thieves, but now we have to protect our money from the thieves that run the bank.
Great video Dan. I would like to point out that your bank CAN rape you just like the credit card companies (often the same company) in the form of overdraft fees, user fees, etc when using a debit card. It totally depends on your bank. The "giant monster megabanks", as Clark Howard would say, are notorious for this.
Never had a problem w/my credit union, but when we moved out of state, USBank screwed us royally by putting a "10 day hold" on a $7500.00 cashiers check I deposited w/out telling us!!! We went on vacation the next week using our card over a dozen times - instead of declining our purchases so we could find out what the hell was going on, they went ahead and let them go through - immediately charging an additional 25.00 per transaction every time (including a couple <$10 purchases).
If people believe and respect their financial limits, a lot of things in this country should collapse, especially these morons who push fantasy economy over real economy. I bet they can't even grind rocks to make a living. Corruption is at an all time high.
that was exactly what was goin on my mind the moment he said "they're actually spending money they have", and i said to myself "and where do you get this SAVED money?" LOL!
You have the right to bear arms in this country, you just can't have bullets. Those eligible for bullets must prove mental stability- a very high threshold we can assure you, and must have DNA, THUMBPRINTS, and RETINAL SCANS. Your results will then be put into an FBI database of convicted felons. Ex military and constitutional advocates need not apply.
You have the right to protest in this country. First you need a permit and second, your protest zone will be a 200'x 30' chained in area on the out skirts of town. You will be allowed to protest between 5 am and 7 am and chants may not be over 70 decibels. If in the event you wander out of your 'designated area' THE STATE reserves to the right to FORCE COMPLIANCE with LRAD, LONG RANGE MICROWAVES, GOO GUNS, TEAR GAS and a host of OTHER TORTURE, ER, COMPLIANCE TOOLS.
Good advice, I was actually discussing this credit card vs debit card topic last night with my significant other. She is reading Dave Ramseys book and he says Debit cards are just as safe as credit cards.
I would encourage people to use cash over debit cards or credit cards. Especially for local merchants. The reason being that the merchant has to pay a fee to process the transaction and then has to wait a couple of days for the actual money to hit their account. Use cash! Starve the beast!!
Vision, in NZ they are feeding us a completely different story about the US that house prices are up, employment going up etc we're fed lies to try stimulate buying, trading
me thinks there is no money left to debit around in banks... credit card just keeps thre game going... draw all non operating capital from your accounts.. ive not had cash in the bank since september 08
What do you think about doing a huge bank run all over the country? A lot of the banks are partly responsible for this mess so why not hit them where it hurts? I just wonder what the outcome of that would be... Great videos
So it's no big deal for you to fix a problem caused by a stolen debit card? It's also no big deal to pay off your credit cards in their entirety every month like I've been doing since I got my first one in '94. I use my Discover everywhere and get a small cash-back feature. The card allows me to keep cash at a min in my wallet (where it can be damaged or lost) and can sit in a interest bank acc.
The Credit Card = Evil thing is getting old. It's only evil when the holder is a dumbass.
ScubaSteve, I'm the same way. I pay my balance in full every month, and I get some small rewards with my credit card. I could care less what my interest rate is, because by paying it in full every month, the interest rate is zero. Not that I'm tooting my own horn here, but the problem with that is that not everyone has the same discipline. The alcoholic analogy was perfect.
For me credit cards are not a problem. I charge shit that I need to buy anyways like gas, grocery, ect. Pay it off each month and AMEX gives me 5% cash back on most of it. Only have two cards, AMEX and VISA.
I've grown tired of idiots telling me that "the economy is rebounding or improving." I've starting telling these people, "Yeah, you're right. Now is the time to invest in the stock market and buy real estate."
Schwarzenegger signs handgun ammo registration bill
..Schwarzenegger today signed into law a bill that requires buyers of handgun ammunition to leave thumbprints and detailed personal information with registered ammo sellers, as well as put restrictions on online bullet sales.
La la la la la, And guess where your personal info will go- to the federal govt.
I did have, in one day, my bank account cleaned out and overdrawn with a debit card. But you are absolutely right about your message. The debit card was used to withdraw cash from Denmark, and by the time I realized from my U.S. bank what was happening, here in France, the damage had been done. I just don't use American debit cards anymore, and have two U.S. credit cards I charge about a hundred dollars per year on and pay off right away. Best to you.
I got rid of my ATM card in America back in 1999 after money was withdrawn from my account in America while I was in FRANCE. The bank treated me like I was the criminal...
We need to begin a nationwide movement to buy up all the gold and silver possible. Make sure THE PEOPLE have the real money when the shit collapses, not any bank.
You are exactly right! Every time someone uses a debit or credit card, they pay a fee called an "INTERCHANGE FEE"! Google it!
As Banksters continue to suck the life-blood from the people around the world and so many of the people bitch about their bailouts and CEO's bonuses, they keep feeding the same banksters, each and every time they use them FUCKING cards!
Force the Fed to print more cash and cut your cards up or return them to the banksters!
First post, (2nd) , although I have been with you since the beginning! I appreciate all you do and the hard work you put into each video! I believe that God has given you great favor and wisdom. I pray for you too.. Thanks again
If we use our debit cards aren't we giving a small percentage of the money to the banks just for the convenience of the card? I bet with all the transactions that really adds up to nice profits for the banks!
Excellent question! I've asked it several times and have never heard a legitimate answer. All I can come up with is youtube being influenced to manipulate the view count. why? I don't know.
They started messing with them right after Lehman collapsed, but in the last few weeks I have noticed it getting worse. For example, when I had 2,000 subs I would get 20,000 views in 24 hours on a new video. Now with 13,000 subs, I have trouble cracking 3,500 in 24 hours. Doesn't add up.
I even heard that on the radio here in Dogpatch. :D
The banks are getting more diabolical by the moment. I understand that WF (Wachovia) is involved in a class-action lawsuit because they were debiting cc and debit-card purchases, but not reflecting it on the customer's account until days later.
This caused people to overdraft, even though they had checked their balances online or whatever.
I have been using my ccards. In fact living off them.
If hyper-inflation happens, isn't being a debtor a good thing Daniel?
No job yet, so after the ccards cut me off, my IRA will bleed. I pray there is something good in the horizon. I never thought someone like me would end up here. Funny, i used to think, what kind of jerk would rack up Ccard debt, now I can empathize.
if you are struggling out there, know that i am praying for you.
Uhm no Oct. 15 is the deadline for those with hidden assets in UBS to declare those hidden assets and get a quasi amnesty or take the chance in hiding them in another offshore bank. If they get caught it's jail time.
Only credit cards I've had in 10 years are department stores ones I hardly ever use. Otherwise I only have a debit card. I saw through this credit scheme early on.
I did the same thing back when it was around $10/oz spot. I just backed up the truck on my CC, but I took advantage of the $0.05 per dollar rewards I got as well, so I could get more silver!
All I say is make sure you don't go crazy and only get what you can afford to pay off quickly and timely.
I am just listening to this guy about market crash and US$... search First Baptist Marco (delte spaces) on you tube and the name if video is: What's Driving this Market.
It is very, very scary. he says markets will drop 40%. Could that be possible??
CIT Group Inc (NYSE:CIT - News) is seeing little interest from bondholders in a debt exchange offer aimed at repairing its fragile balance sheet, making bankruptcy increasingly likely, sources familiar with the matter said.
The lender to small and medium-sized businesses said earlier this month it was looking for investors to approve a large debt exchange that would reduce its borrowings, or to approve a prepackaged bankruptcy.
I haven't used credit cards since 2003. I've had some fraud with my debit card, but the banks return the money with in days. I've even had a atm rip me off by not giving me all the cash I request and that only took 2 weeks to get my 20 bucks back.
yup very true VV I had my debit card stolen.... I called the bank, and they immediately cancelled the card. I prefer debit cards, and prepaid credit cards.
With as much usefull information as you have along with knowing what the "f" ur talking about unlike most people on mainstream "news". Are you crazy enough to run for office? Need more common sense in a room full of morons.
Support your fellow Americans, Don't use credit cards OR ***Debit cards*** whenever possible! Cash you're cheques and use cash. Go to a living, breathing Bank teller and support her rather than the Banks Profits. The world is moving towards a cashless society, and using any kind of Debit card, which now come with RFID, is simply promoting the drive to a cashless society where the banks control our money, not us!
I am looking in to developing a barter system, where I can get what I need in exchange for services rendered. If any one of you are interested to join my venture then, please send me a message and lets start bartering. I am open to ANY suggestions. I have my own ideas but I will see what is the best feasible system. We can save money, buy silver with the saved money. The only thing that we can not barter is gas for our cars. The rest should be easier than we think. Thank you
I am closing my business in 2 weeks. I ran it well and NEVER accepted CC. Only cash and some checks. From the get go I made it clear to my vendors, that I did not want to open a Credit Term with them and in exchange I demanded discounts. I got my discounts from 5% up to 65%. I never had any problems with big payments at the end of the month, in fact I made money by paying cash. Now the whole world is on fire, and no one can buy any thing. Gone are the days of support your local economy!
That's funny. She's at odds with Little Timmy who said last week in a Reuters article that Americans need to save more - which I would take to mean not using credit cards.
I am convinced that there are no jobs out there. We are to the critical state and I am trying to get work anywhere I can to no avail. Sorry just venting as it is very very depressing.
don't know how other people think. but I pay off my credit card bill every month. therefore, credit card company hardly make any money out of my pocket.
Hey Daniel... love to hear from you! Pay as you go ... the only way to stay out of debit for most people.. or let the credit card companies pay you for using their cards. and let them do your book keeping ! - pay it off at the end of the month...
Ehh, I dont use credit cards at all. I use a debit some times but most of the time these days I use cash only. If I don't have it in my pocket, I don't need it.
Yea I have used debit card only since 2003, pre paid cell phone etc. They have punished me a bit with FICO score cause I don't use credit. But my total estate debit is 20 grand. That includes a mortgage and 2 car loans. I.E. I have little debit compared to most.

Check this out.
(1) Free to get any credit card.
When you decided to close it, regardless of its standing, there comes "repercussions".
(2) Credit rating uses length of credit in its formula which is the "repercussion" from point 1.
(3) Credit companies are raising rates to max 39%, minumum payments to max 5%, and annual fees to max $99, regardless of your credit standing.
See how point 2 allows corruption 1 and 3 to run around with impunity. Yet people still cannot put 2 and 2 together.

I speak from experience.

We were only able to get them to credit about 1/2 of this back (after major hassle arguing w/managment, etc.).

RIP USA.

I would encourage people to use cash over debit cards or credit cards. Especially for local merchants. The reason being that the merchant has to pay a fee to process the transaction and then has to wait a couple of days for the actual money to hit their account. Use cash! Starve the beast!!

Yeah, that scare tactic is garbage. My wife had her debit card stolen from an old job and all our money was gone in less than a day.
Of course they took the full 30 days to investigate and return our money, but we got it back.
We still have a credit card, but we have been credit debt free or many years.

ScubaSteve1974 2 years ago
ScubaSteve, I'm the same way. I pay my balance in full every month, and I get some small rewards with my credit card. I could care less what my interest rate is, because by paying it in full every month, the interest rate is zero. Not that I'm tooting my own horn here, but the problem with that is that not everyone has the same discipline. The alcoholic analogy was perfect.

Doesn't add up.
visionvictory 2 years ago
I even heard that on the radio here in Dogpatch. :D
The banks are getting more diabolical by the moment. I understand that WF (Wachovia) is involved in a class-action lawsuit because they were debiting cc and debit-card purchases, but not reflecting it on the customer's account until days later.
This caused people to overdraft, even though they had checked their balances online or whatever.
nameofthepen 2 years ago
I have been using my ccards. In fact living off them.
If hyper-inflation happens, isn't being a debtor a good thing Daniel?
No job yet, so after the ccards cut me off, my IRA will bleed. I pray there is something good in the horizon. I never thought someone like me would end up here. Funny, i used to think, what kind of jerk would rack up Ccard debt, now I can empathize.
if you are struggling out there, know that i am praying for you.

CIT debt swap struggles, bankruptcy looms
CIT Group Inc (NYSE:CIT - News) is seeing little interest from bondholders in a debt exchange offer aimed at repairing its fragile balance sheet, making bankruptcy increasingly likely, sources familiar with the matter said.
The lender to small and medium-sized businesses said earlier this month it was looking for investors to approve a large debt exchange that would reduce its borrowings, or to approve a prepackaged bankruptcy.
