I am looking for a music video that was played every day in VH1 in October 1988, at the same time that you used to see Kokomo by the Beah Boys, this was a slow song sang by a blonde short hair girl, beautiful voice...I canno remember the name of the song or the singer. Does anyone have any idea of the song I am talking about?
Looking for a song that either came out in 1988 or 1989, and I believe its title is "Yeah Yeah Yeah." totally a lost song...any knowledge? It was by a guy with a normal name--a first name and a last name. ??? Any idea?
Nope, not that I am aware of. Siouxsie Sue and Budgie recorded material as The Creatures for many years. Siouxsie and Budgie were also married for awhile but they divorced a few years ago. Siouxsie seems to working as a solo artist now.
By the way you could've included Holly & The Italians, "Tell That Girl To Shut Up" on your 1981 list of near misses. It's also 10 times better than Transvision Vamp's version.
I'm sure you already know this, but you could totally re-do every year with MORE of these overlooked songs. And I, and everyone else would love it if you did! Awesome work....
Thanks for the kind words. I am digging through more music as I type. I have thought about going back to 1978/1979, the two years that started it all for me on YouTube.
this is an awesome service which you are doing for all music lovers. i totally dig that you are not limiting your stuff to one genre. keep it up, otherwise it gets lost. plus, good music is such a rare commodity and artists need to be supported in whatever way we can support them. thanks!
My pleasure. I have many more artists and songs ready for new videos. With the cookie cutter formats on broadcast radio, the Internet is really the only way to promote these forgotten songs.
Yep, Kid Creole is still popular in Europe and performs there on a regular basis (at least according to his website). I did not know about Toni's popularity in Germany. I still wonder why she could not break through on the US pop charts.
@nccvball The Smithereens were definitely an underrated band. In the '80s, they seemed like they were on the verge of big popularity, but then fizzled out and disappeared.
1. Great to see Jimmy Barnes up here. Some of his solo stuff and his songs with Cold Chisel are excellent.
2. Big Pig still being played today - that's a little suprising considering they broke up 20 years ago, but they and Kings of the Sun are both popular Australian bands.
3. Transvision Vamp, Toni Childs, Underworld, Robert Cray and Kid Creole and the Coconuts I have all heard of - with the first three still being played today.
Jimmy Barnes, Big Pig, and Kings of the Sun are all Australian. Their US exposure was probably helped by INXS' success at the time. I believe their music stands on its own merit but having help never hurts.
Kid Creole had a song called "Endicott" that I thought was going to be a big hit. Not in the US.
Thanks for the kind words. More videos with newer and ooooolder songs coming soon.
oooh...some great memories. i bought the siouxsie album because of "peek a boo" and have loved big pigs "breakaway" ever since i first saw the video on mtv [way back when] had to download it several years ago. glad someone else remembers it.
I remember when "Peek-a-Boo" first came out and thought it was great that Siouxsie had found a more commercial sound. Plus, like you said, they were getting heavy rotation on MTV. Big Pig has a percussion sound that could still fit in to today's music. I still have a copy of their CD in my car.
A lot of variety in sounds here, too bad Top 40-CHR radio doesn't sound this way now. Everything is too homogenized.
I remember "When We Kiss" received a lot of airplay in Wichita KS on the R&B and also Top 40 stations back in '88. I don't know why it didn't hit nationwide.
Kingdom Come's "Get it On" was played a lot on the old "Z-Rock" metal-hard rock satellite format.
Tommy Conwell still plays in and around the Philly area. Much like you, me, and CBS/Columbia, I can't figure out why he could not break through to the mainstream audience. He was working a couple of years ago as a DJ at WYSP in Philly for a short while.
Lenny Wolf of Kingdom Come was in a band named Stone Fury that put out an album back in 1985 that went nowhere, despite a lot of airplay for a song called "Break Down The Walls". "I'm Not Your Man" by Tommy Conwell should have been a monster with its Smithereens-meets-The Cult sound, but it just missed the Top 40. Blues legend Rod Piazza played harmonica on their second album. "Dark" by Robert Cray was certified platinum (the album, not the single).
No, I don't remember. Thanks for responding.

Thank you. I like that song as well but I do not have the original by Holly and the Italians. That's another one I will need to keep my eye out for.

Toni Childs song was huge in Germany. King Creole and the Coconuts also continue to play in Germany by way of the Night of the Proms. Not bad!

THe video for the SMithereens song is still in rotation on VH1 classic. Stop Your Fussin' by Toni CHilds was a VH1 hit in SUmmer 1988.
