I had also wondered if he might be a 2 (I am), a social subtype 2. I also considered 5, 3, and 9. My own conclusion (which could be wrong) is that I believe he is a social subtype 9.This comes from watching him many, many times, reading his own words, talking to people who know him personally (some for a long time), and from a few who have worked with him directly and know the Enneagram. That said, i could be wrong! He hasn't told me his type (wonder if he knows it!).
Barack Obama is clearly a 3w4. There is no question about it. He is always very well dressed, very well presented, and has the right thing to say. I can't remember any time when Obama has been accused of saying anything particularly offensive or out of line, (very much in line with 3w4).
Interesting. I thought about it for fifteen seconds and thought obama was a nine but probably with an eight wing. He has that deep imperturbability of a nine but to get to be president he's gotta have some eight in there. He's no three and I also don't buy the two thing. He doesn't have a phoney bone in his body and he doesn't seem needy enough to be a two. He's a heavy nine, buddha like.
Thank you for your insights on Barack Obama. I was curious how you know that he has 'done a lot of work' on himself? I have not read his books so maybe he talks about his work there, but was curious if he has been in therapy, etc.
@sandyda1 (uploader) I have no idea if he's been in therapy. My perception comes from reading "The Audacity of Hope," and recognizing the high degree of self-reflection and self-awareness contained in the book. It is outstanding for anyone, much less someone in the public domain. I don't mean public figures are less aware (how would I know that?), just that they would be less prone to writing about it so candidly.
The very first impression of enneagram type that comes out of me when I see Obama, is 9.

Obama is a Two...a truly developed Two. Got that strong 8 behind him, and the light of elegance of 4 shinning around him! Hope is the light of 2.

I think there is always a question about it, whether our own style, but particularly when we are typing people who we don't know.

Helen Palmer believes that I am 2w3.

Barack Obama is a 3 wing 4, hands down.
He has nothing, i mean NOTHING of a 9.
Nines are either :
Big
Fat
Visceral
Slow
Barack has nothing of that

Hi Ginger,
