Honestly GM fucked up somewhere. My 02' Grand Prix, had a bad lower intake gasket. I bought it from the dealership 2 weeks ago there getting new hopefully a new engine. Seriously I had a fucking 95' Mercury Cougar my freshman year in high school. It had 146,000 miles old as shit and banged up. I changed the spark plugs, wires, filters, ran perfect. Ford no offense owns. This is my first GM vehicle, kinda sad about it.
talk about a short ram intake lol.. never seen one like that before.. hope you get it fixed.. you prolly did by now since im over a year late to look at this video
IF you take care of these engines and treat them right they should NEVER fail before 200K.... No shitty oil or shitty oil filters.... No romping on it with a cold engine.... No sitting at the rev limiter just for laughs.
I have a 1997 GTP and the problem is putting all those mods on it. Everything is stock on mine, I just keep up on my routine maintenance, synthetic oil and premium fuel and I'm at 234,000 miles on the original engine and transmission. The only problem I had with the engine was the intake manifold gasket. Doesn't miss a beat starts and runs great.
Its a shame but anything over 300 on a stock 3.8 is asking for trouble. You need a built motor. I wouldnt risk anything lower than a 3.6 pully on a stock motor even with the cam.
If you allow UNFILTERED AIR in to your engine you will cause damage. A normal filter doesn't restrict airflow (as boy racers think), it cleans air and passes more through it than a car can use at full RPM. Companies will lie to sell you the junk you have. It has a small surface area and huge holes, so that allows big bits of dirt in which ruin your engine. You end up with pitted turbos & superchargers, bearings, pistons & rings etc. Use PROPER filters!!!!!
@urbex2007I have seen in person a filtration test being done and the K&N filtered just as much as the paper.... Not to mention the engine was pulling MUCH less of a vacuum throughout the manifold. This engine clearly ether has supercharger coupler issues (NEVER comes in contact with the air stream) Or severe bottom end failure (The rings would fail and have no compression before that much dirt got into the engine and through the oil filter.)
Ouch..it finally went huh..don't feel too bad, I have a cracked fly wheel (stock so you know that doesn't last long)+a busted lifter+a cracked piston..I decided to run a higher psi on my stattama and my car was poorly tuned so I was running really lean..on the way to the shop to have these things fixed I still managed to take down a lightly modded mach1..you had some nice runs in your ride before the destruction
same shit happen to my 03 gt. GOOOODDDDNIGHTTT ENGINE
