  • noisey lifter tick, switch to a thinner oil, 5w30synth mobile1 is what i use plus mobile one filter

  • try some lucas oil treatment.

  • Run a full quart of Rislon in it with your other quarts of oil...it may go away.

  • @ chazm tanny fluids are high on detergents and it can help, but it only a 3.0 liter that much trans fluid would make the oil way to thin try a little less. temporary fix at best though.

  • this is just a lifter tick.. normal 6g72 mitsu engine :)

  • pretty sure its a lifter

  • throw a quart of type f tranny fluid in the oil and beat the crap out if it. this usually helps.

  • mine does it :D

  • the 99 lifters thing is a myth... I had a 99 for 3 years and my car did this exact same thing the whole time, it would stop after about 5 minutes of letting the car warm up however.

  • not a myth. pre-1994 3000gt lifter tick never goes away. it won't damage anythin, it just gets annoying

  • Yea, i got a rebuilt engine and upon inspection i saw it came with 3mm bore lifters... its not a myth though lol it helps significantly!!

  • Mine does this same shit to...

how do i permanently get it to go away.

Just switch to the 99vr4s lifters?

how hard is it to change yourself?

  • If you have a SOHC engine then you cant upgrade to 99 lifters you just need to buy new ones. Thats easy, you can do the 6 front lifters in about 30 minutes. The back 6 you have to take off the intake plenum to get to.

On a DOHC if you upgrade to the 99 lifters its not too much more work but it is more work. I would double work time so say about 6 hours

  • they are really easy to change! "BLUE POINT" makes the special tool you need to push the valve down. you have to push the valve spring down to relieve the pressure from the rocker arm. the rocker arm somes off and the the lifters just pull out.

  • good, sounds just like mine, wasn't quite as bad as i thought. I gotta figure out whats causing the fuel smell though. Either just needs a tune up, or the ECU capacitors are done for.

  • if its running really rich it can also be the mass air flow sensor!

  • Definitely lifter tick, revving it out works for about 5 seconds if you're lucky. Just order some big bore lifters from

3sxperformance and you'll be fine for the next 200k miles.

  • lifter tick, dont worry, if you want it to go away, switch to 99 style or big bore lifters

  • how much are the 99 vr4 lifters and

1-10 how hard is it to do it yourself??

  • i have the exact same noise on my car =[, having it warmed up doesnt fix it... just when im above 1.5k RPMs it goes away...

  • lifter tick. needs to be warmed up before it goes away.

  • uh oh *covers ears* yea its a lifter tick i got it to -_- you can rev it out but it still come back a couple days later
