hey, nice video. Ive always thought the feather razor shape would make a really nice french point on a regular straight razor. I was wondering how many shaves you get out of a single blade?
@woodgeist Im not really sure what you mean by making a french point with the feather on a regualr razor? I think about 10 shaves or so. Right around that number. :)
@cowboycody58 Depends on whether you want a fixed blade model or a disposable blade model. Look for a used fixed blade at straightrazorplace com, or look for new fixed/disposable at classicshaving com or shavenation com.
Remember, that if you buy a used straight, make sure it is honed and shaveready.
Ahoy mate,,Thx 4 the info video, im searching the market now for the most practical straight edge to buy,, ithink im going look for feather's dist...have a Great day..karl
After watching your video I also had to get one of these. I've ordered the DX teak handle one as it's my birthday soon. It will be a great addition along side my Merkur progress and Asura Arta black shaving mug. Yours as well as Geo's videos are fantastic, thanks.
@perfectjohnboy Nice! I hope very much that you will be happy with it. Please let me know what you think of it, after you have received it and shaved with it. And have a happy birthday!
@mokujingris1 Hi, unfortunately I recieved an email today to cancel my order due to a backlog of orders till november. I tried using a friends Parker Shavette and didn't like the folding style as you also talk about in another video. So a blessing in disguise maybe. As soon as my cash is returned I will go for the Feather non folding and let you know in a few weeks when It comes. I can't find anywhere in the UK that sells them.
@mokujingris1 Hi mate, I got my Feather Artist Club DX Teakwood yesterday. It's a great razor, so pleased with it. I already had 30 Pro Guard blades in readiness for it. I just shaved with it and although it took me a while, it gave me an irritation baby smooth shave, just one little nick near my ear but nothing really. I did 2 passes with a cleanup pass at the end.
I have been looking at these online, and I couldn't figure out how exactly they work... They don't look like they hold a disposable blade... Thanks for the detailed information. Nice video.
@andrewpocock1 The Shavette is actually a brand name, not a term for straight razors with disposable blades. The shavette thoug, as you pinted out, is not as costly as the Feather. It is however, not the same quality either.
I thank you for good video. I also think that Feather Blades are by far the best and highest quality compared to all others. I have one question for you. Where can I find a removable Feather razor blade for this razor? Is it possible to use the classic Feather DE blade or any other. Thanks
Surely you have made a mistake in the price of your razor, 150 Dollars? That seems a lot of money to me, Also, Don`t you use the Euro in your country? P.S I just have to ask, How did you injure your finger?
@xmoroseguyx Sorry Sir, I am not mistaking on the price of the razor.
See for your self at classicshaving . com
The razor is listed there at 209.99 US $, and the all stainless model is listed at 315.99 US $.
I lost the tip of my finger while I was cleaning the chain on my motorcycle, my finger got crushed between the chain and the sprocket, whilst the engine was running.
@mokujingris1 Your absolutely right! I even looked on Ebay, And I think they wanted around 200 U.K Pounds with the cost of post included, As with your finger, I did guess it might be something to do with motorcycling, ( From your other video) I have done ( Nearly ) The same sort of thing with a bicycle, Where the chain meets the rear cogs! But you did it cleaning the chain on a motorbike with the engine running? I belive they warn against doing that, In every maintenance handbook!
how do you angle this razor to your face compared to a normal full hollow razor? Do you still use a 30 degree angle, or do you leave it almost flat against your face? I've heard that the angle is kind of pre-built in to the wedge.
That is an ejector blade. You align the button with the opening on the razor and you then inject the blade into the Feather razor holder. This way you do not need to hold the blade and risk cutting yourself.
In my left ear I have on the top a piercing done with a 4 mm needle, the jewlery is a fleshtunnel. In the middle I have a 4 mm dermal punch with a blackline ring.
In both lobes I have 16 mm strecthes, with varies jewlery in.
want to say thanks for the questions you answeared for me not to long ago. I picked up the Feather Artist Club RG Straight Razor and l love it. thanks man. l love shaving now.
@psychodelicdragon Sorry I am mumbling a little bit there. I am saying "NINJA SHARP" :) I first heard Mantic use the expression, he says "ninja assasin sharp".
I own several Feathers (RG, DX, Pleana and the "Nape & Body"). These are truly one of my favorite SR in my collection. I travel a lot and the idea of dragging a strop with me was awful. My first disposable was the Dovo Shavette, then I discovered the Feather. I find myself from time to time even using my Pleana at home instead of my other SR. You're right, the razors are "ninja" sharp.
@Kuyanator Oh! By the way, there's actually a way you can load the razor without ever touching them; simply line up the hole at the end of the RG to the black notch of the razor box (semi auto magazine) and push in. It will line up and open the holder at the same time so all you have to do is slide the new razor into the RG. This way, you reduce the risk of getting nicked. Enjoy!
I own the very same razor. Excellent. 3 different type of Feather blades to choose from. I use the ones with the Guard and only nick myself once a year.
The consistency with the Feather is unparalleled. I spend a lot of time honing my other blades and I can't get as sharp as the Feather. It has the right amount of heft. It is not a singing blade. The beard just wipes off.
Hey, I love your videos, and I like the passion you've got for this shaving sort, I've been intrested in straight razor shaving, but now I have no money to buy all the stuff I need to maintain a str8, I started to use a DE a week ago and I love it, but I still want a str8 and this feather seems to be a good option but I wonder how many shaves you can get from one blade?...btw I hope a feather shaving video soon :)
glad to see peoples perspective on this razor still trying to figure out if its worth the money. started s. shaving about 3months ago and have gotten the hang of it, at first struggled due to honing issues or stropping, tryed to diagnosis the problem. picked up a cheap razor with disposable blades, great shave. Still want to get back to the old school blades. need a hone and maybe a better blade. not sure if the better investment is the hone or the feather. Any thoughts would be appreciated
Since you have tried and liked straight razor shaving, it definitly sounds like you are ready to take it to the next step, and get a solid blad, a strop and a hone.
You can see my other video on hones for beginners.
Another great video. This one make my review pretty lame looking. I agree with all your points on it though. The blades make it so the hair on your face just slides right off. The blade magazine is very well designed too.
I actually liked your video, i learned that the blades go straight into the razor, which gives a lot more sence to the whole bladebox setup - it is so cool.

@mokujingris1 If the portion that holds the blade were a standard ground straight razor, the profile would be like a really pronounced french point

@cowboydrewbop I know what you mean, I often like to look at instructional videos of items I am thinking of buying. So you are most welcome.
mokujingris1 7 months ago
i believe these are called shavettes
you can buy a full shave kit for £15
it includes razor, 30 blades, sutchers, soap, brush
the brush will fall to bits in a few months but its good to use to practise shaving before you take the plunge and buy a proper straight razor

Hello,
I thank you for good video. I also think that Feather Blades are by far the best and highest quality compared to all others. I have one question for you. Where can I find a removable Feather razor blade for this razor? Is it possible to use the classic Feather DE blade or any other. Thanks
BadeCa75 10 months ago
@BadeCa75 Youi are very welcome.
There are four different type blades you cant get for the Feather straights:
- Professional
- Professional light
- Professional super
- Pro guard
A DE blade will not work for this razor, also the blade models "Pleana" and "Prebeau" are for the specifik razors of that same name.
I have only tried the Professional type, so I can only comment on that: Its very very sharp and smoothe.
Look for blades at classicshaving . com, or google them.

viking guy, I don't want to take my strop etc. with me either, but I have an excellent solution.
All I need is:
- 1 straight razor
- My leather belt
- A (very) small round box with some shaving cream in it
- a 30$ brush
That's good enough for about 4 weeks of travelling, if you intend on shaving every other day, or, 3 times a week.
that's what works for me, but YMMV... eh, whatever, right?
still love your videos, keep up spreading the useful information :D

De koster omkring 24 US $ for 20 stk blade.

The number of shaves in a blade really depends on the shaver.
I think you can get anywhere from one to as high as 10 shaves out of a single blade.
I will be sure to make a feather shaving video for you, in which I will also review the feathers shaving abilities.
