That reminds me of the Ghost in the Shell Tachikomas. Miniature with the cockpit outside, but have similar legs that can either walk or roll on wheels depending on whether you want speed or precision.
I was thinking the exact same thing. That cockpit might as well have the Aperture Science logo printed on the outside. The robot has a more Combine kind of feel to it, though. It would make an awesome pet.

You can actually buy those kind of stick controllers and use them yourself. They are 3D input devices with force feedback.
Search for "Novint Falcon" here on youtube to see what they can do.
(they seem to be based around a "Delta Robot" - a common automated robot arm design)
