As entertianment I enjoyed the REDTAIL movie and I understand that saying it was INSPIRED BY REAL EVENTS does not equal historically accuracy. However, why does the movie only show B-17 bombers flying to Germany from Italy when only 1 on the 15th AAF, which was the flying command that the Tuskegee Airmen were attached too, 5 heavy bomber wings had B-17's with the other 4 all having B-24's. Since the bomber scenes were computer generated would it not have been just as easy to create B-24's

I'm wondering if the young generation of today even gives a rats ass about this movie? I'm talking about both black and white youth, of this hip/hop era, who have no grasp of American or world history in general. The movie may be a little hollywood, but so was Saving Private Ryan. The point is Saving Private Ryan, brought the heroics of mostly White soldiers of D-Day to a new generation. Red Tails will do the same for the brave American black pilots who's story deserves to be told.

I had the pleasure of being invited to a preview of this movie last night in Chicago. While it certainly can be considered a "black movie" - shortly into it, it was clear this movie was more about the achievement of great Americans, regardless of color.
As a child, I was a huge fan of the TV show 12 O'clock High. This movie takes it to a new level. The air combat scenes and special effects in this film are stunning, matched only by the excellent acting.
If I was a Tuskegee Pilot this movie would EMBARRASS ME. So Until one of them See's this movie and gives their opinion. I will just have to go with my gut feeling. The story is one of the most important in US history the Air Combat scenes are SO unrealistic. Cockpit explodes? What in the cockpit of a b-17 would cause a huge fire ball? The low oxygen level? The ship who's Bridge explodes? Nothing on the bridge would explode like that either. It trivializes the story.
@randyslittle The cockpit of the B-17 in this trailer does not explode. The area that explodes or has the fireball is near the tail where the side gunners are. That area is right behind the engines. When the third engine ignites then the body of the bomber will too. Also ever heard of an explosive cannon round? ME-109s and ME-262 both had 1 or 3 cannons. 5 hits and a bomber is down

My aviation teacher in Highschool was in the 8th airforce and flew these missions. I have seen pictures of his plane with WAY MORE then 5 rounds in it. You have to hit the engine or hydraulic lines.

@randyslittle Per several reports-Many of the surviving members of the Tuskegee Airmen worked with the entire staff, crew and cast to get "It Right". And per reports, it is right. What explodes? 20mm cannon shells, O2 tanks, fuel tanks et al. As for the ship attack, the real attack's gun footage is around-in fact it was used in HBO's movie several years back.
It was a really funny movie, a total of two Me. 262s were shot down during dog fights and that two not really a dog fight but when they were landing or on finals...distortion of history to the bitter end....The tuskegee was a half hearted training plan but the black Americans performance in the war was absolutely brilliant, hats off to the those pilots.
@adiljkalyal Well most of the German jets were shot down wihle landing or taking off, some were shot down in dog fights. In fact, the jets biggest mission, in which several were lost in dog fights, was to act as decoys for sg200's suicied attacks. BTB P-51's and A-1's won dog fights in Korea and 'Nam against jets.

A-1's. Read 1st person report by F-4 pilot who had Red Flag program against P-51's. He lose against them as well. Honly way he "won" was to get out of fur-ball. Piston plans out turn the jets.

Both the History and Military Channell has shown Honor Deferred. A search, using any engine you wish will find information on it. "When the war books were closed at the end of WW 2, the MoH – the military highest award – was bestowed on 432 soldiers. But not one was given to any of the more than one million African-Americans

As entertianment I enjoyed the REDTAIL movie and I understand that saying it was INSPIRED BY REAL EVENTS does not equal historically accuracy. However, why does the movie only show B-17 bombers flying to Germany from Italy when only 1 on the 15th AAF, which was the flying command that the Tuskegee Airmen were attached too, 5 heavy bomber wings had B-17's with the other 4 all having B-24's. Since the bomber scenes were computer generated would it not have been just as easy to create B-24's

I'm wondering if the young generation of today even gives a rats ass about this movie? I'm talking about both black and white youth, of this hip/hop era, who have no grasp of American or world history in general. The movie may be a little hollywood, but so was Saving Private Ryan. The point is Saving Private Ryan, brought the heroics of mostly White soldiers of D-Day to a new generation. Red Tails will do the same for the brave American black pilots who's story deserves to be told.

I had the pleasure of being invited to a preview of this movie last night in Chicago. While it certainly can be considered a "black movie" - shortly into it, it was clear this movie was more about the achievement of great Americans, regardless of color.
As a child, I was a huge fan of the TV show 12 O'clock High. This movie takes it to a new level. The air combat scenes and special effects in this film are stunning, matched only by the excellent acting.
An important must see film for all.

If I was a Tuskegee Pilot this movie would EMBARRASS ME. So Until one of them See's this movie and gives their opinion. I will just have to go with my gut feeling. The story is one of the most important in US history the Air Combat scenes are SO unrealistic. Cockpit explodes? What in the cockpit of a b-17 would cause a huge fire ball? The low oxygen level? The ship who's Bridge explodes? Nothing on the bridge would explode like that either. It trivializes the story.

@randyslittle The cockpit of the B-17 in this trailer does not explode. The area that explodes or has the fireball is near the tail where the side gunners are. That area is right behind the engines. When the third engine ignites then the body of the bomber will too. Also ever heard of an explosive cannon round? ME-109s and ME-262 both had 1 or 3 cannons. 5 hits and a bomber is down

My aviation teacher in Highschool was in the 8th airforce and flew these missions. I have seen pictures of his plane with WAY MORE then 5 rounds in it. You have to hit the engine or hydraulic lines.

What explodes? 20mm cannon shells, O2 tanks, fuel tanks et al. As for the ship attack, the real attack's gun footage is around-in fact it was used in HBO's movie several years back.

It was a really funny movie, a total of two Me. 262s were shot down during dog fights and that two not really a dog fight but when they were landing or on finals...distortion of history to the bitter end....The tuskegee was a half hearted training plan but the black Americans performance in the war was absolutely brilliant, hats off to the those pilots.

In fact, the jets biggest mission, in which several were lost in dog fights, was to act as decoys for sg200's suicied attacks. BTB P-51's and A-1's won dog fights in Korea and 'Nam against jets.

Theres always gotta b big A-list Stars behind films like these, just cud Hollywood thinks such a film wont attract audiences, if its all unknowns, surely this doesnt matter, if the film was done properly.

Which gives me a bad indicator that this is mainly wot the film will focus on, now I cud b wrong here. I admit I dont know much about these particular airmen, but considering they're all black pilots in WW2, Id like to see the film focus more on their struggles against racial diversity, cus I know the US Army was heavily racially divided bk then, so the film shud focus on this alot

@fistacuff56 As noted in other prior comments-Piston/prop planes CAN out dog-fight jets in close quarters. Also done in Korea by P51's and Corsears, and in Vietnam by
A-1's. Read 1st person report by F-4 pilot who had Red Flag program against P-51's. He lose against them as well. Honly way he "won" was to get out of fur-ball. Piston plans out turn the jets.

History just now had a show on A-1 Skyraiders taking on Mig-17's, and winning, in 'Nam.And if you look up P-51 vs Me-262, you will see that they also took them on air to air and won due in part to turn radius.Yes-true many more kills were much closer to air to ground. I have also seen first party posts by a F-4 pilot who had Red Flag dog fights with P-51's and only won by getting out of Dodge City/out of the furball

The brave and valiant actions of Blacks has been way under reported and understood ever since they started fighting for the US. They fought even before there was a USA. Both the History and Military Channell has shown Honor Deferred. A search, using any engine you wish will find information on it. "When the war books were closed at the end of WW 2, the MoH – the military highest award – was bestowed on 432 soldiers. But not one was given to any of the more than one million African-Americans
