You cant join the outcast

I think they put them in fallout for the awesome power armour they have or something..maybe they wanted more ''kool'' guys i donno

The only way u can help the outcast is at the fort of independence (i think it was) and then u collect technoligy for them...

so what is the point of the outcasts? can you join them or something? i met them when i was being over run by super mutent brutes with mini guns, then i saw laser fire and it was them and they just keep telling me to leave them alone and then another squad showed up after i followed the first squad. is there an explination?
