that aeroplane is possible thanks to all RC flyers , using edge of electric technology. just look at some of those RC helicopters , they are just awesome in performance ! next step is to fill it with as much Lipo cells as possible , lol.
until we get some freaking HUUUGE technological advancement in the old ass Battery technology that's been almost static and dormant for the past 20 years with very little change, compared to other technologies like nano technology and so on, and until they come up with better, cheaper and longer lasting batteries than those used for Space technology, we could never dream of Airliner's running on batteries, what's this guy thinkin really!?
@slayerdude76 While I agree with you 90%, it is important to note that cars like the Toyota hybrid use Nimh batteries when they could use the less stable but lighter Lipo, life or lion batteries. These batteries drain slower, have virtually no memory and have an incredibly high capacity. Technology has not changed I agree, but neither has poeples dependancy on oil most noteably in the U.S. with our big roads and SUVs. This guy is thinking that soon batteries will take place of precious oil.
you can make it as big as you want , and the bigger you make the motors , tyhe more economical they get , the bigger you make the battery , the more eco nmomical it gets
will this happen soon ?
NO cause the goverment are squeezing every last penny out from oil before the start on hydrogen and electric
@JaleelJohanson62 Na Na Na I understand where you are going. Dont try to condemn plastic substances because of an oil spill. Without oil you wouldnt be using a computer in the first place and without oil 25% of Americans will be unemployed. Oh and I almost forgot your car uses gas right?
@RobertsDigital My intent was never to condemn oil. Drilling in ridiculously difficult places like the ocean only occurs because of vanishing simpler places to drill. Oil companies are not drilling in the ocean for the fun of it. This alone means it's well past time to start considering alternatives. They may come with concessions at least at first. Oh well, I guess THAT's better than the world blowing itself up over a few drops of remaining oil....
@RobertsDigital One wouldn't try to go twice the distance a single charge is well capable of anymore than they'd try to go twice the distance a single fill-up could provide.
@StateOfTheArts True. However care and safety precautions in battery selection and maintenance are still very important. Lithium Polymer batteries, which fill most high-power light weight design needs, are also extremely dangerous and prone to exploding. youtube.com/watch?v=VswaFOrVM6I
@StateOfTheArts But please don't get me wrong, not trying to be a spoil sport! I'd fly one in a second, and I think it'd probably still be considerably more safe from a flammability standpoint than a conventional plane anyways! :D
@ Radudman: Too heavy, picture event of plane crash, run into unbreakable red tape. Perhaps they can use solar cells like on the UAV pathfinder to extend flight time. That is assuming the cost drops low enough while the efficiency rises. Still I think this is never going to be commercialized except as a private plane. Compared to commercial jet aircraft it's slow and can't hold as much cargo. Maybe a large model could have more speed and capacity than a small one IDK.
I think this could REALLY go far on a bigger model. think if you stuck a small nuclear reactor on there? you could power the thing for years without landing!!

@RotorHead2652 check out pipistrel 2 seat "Taurus"
It's electric, and the "government" even kicked in money for development.
you can order one today.

Try lithium Titanate batteries, and a bigger engine so you can go for friken 5 hours at 150 mph

BUT THE CHINESE will lead the way, they can do it all for real cheap !!! .they sell a commercial liner for $13 m u know?!!! a dc-10 i think.

if this catches on maintenance is super easy. anyone can take on flying !!!
PLISKEN12 1 year ago
for a flight school this makes sense and will save thousands of dollars in operating cost. most schools wanted their hands on this soon.
a piston a/c consumes between 8-15 Gallons per hour at $5 a gallon
a 2 seat electric a/c $5 worth of electricy for 1 hour or so of flight.
and im not counting spark plugs, oil, maintenece etc
nothing breaks or nor needs inspection on direct drive electric systems only 2 moving parts the rotor and the bearing.

Aviation was, in the beginning, not as spectacular as today. But it changed.
And so will electric planes change, you just gotta give it some time
