  • " we said Lea Micheal that's Idina Menzel "

  • If I was Kathy Griffin's teacher I would give her 100% she was clear, concise, articulate, detail, accurate, knowledgeable, and compassionate about this topic.

  • We still are in control by goverment and political leaders and religion that influence our society with thinking and prejudicies similar to the "Dark ages" Hitler, racisim, burning witches, slavery....etc the list goes on its now time to push past the ignorant traps that confine us...we are free and always have been ...we have just been brainwashed for centuries and now its all coming out. how stupid do these inhuman acts looks now...thank goodness we are in a world evolving and changing 4 better

  • I think this is so right what these people are doing to stop gay bullying in schools with out a shadow of a doubt I 100% agree that being gay in school is the hardest to cope with, I come from Ireland so we dont spend as many years in school as the united statetes though I was still tortured at school always by the one person that broke me down day by day but if anyone else is suffering please talk to someone you trust. I did and since I left im lving my life and I have never been happier.

  • Chely Wright is FINNNNE!!!

  • Bullying is horrible for anyone, but gay bullying... theres something very different about it. Its not like being teased for acne or being over weight. This is why gay youth are 4 times more likely to kill themselves. I know EXACTLY how these kids feel... Kids are literally obsessed with bullying people based on sexuality... the word fag is used constantly on school yards, and many times teachers ignore it...

  • @RodTalon0000 latest statistic are - 20% of all youth contemplate suicide, and GLBTTTQQ youth are 8.4 TIMES more likely to carry out those plans.

  • @RodTalon0000 in the time they should be encouraged they are being abused.

  • Jesus said, "He who believes in me shall by no means be put to shame".........By no means is by no means. There is not male nor female, nor black or white, nor Hispanic or Asian, etc, nor homosexual or heterosexual, but all are one and one in Christ! The Bible says, "He who hates his brother is in darkness!".......Let love rein in your heart!

  • at 1:56 did someone fart?

  • @markdodge126 Those are pleather chairs they all sit in. It could've been someone shifting in the chair; certain fabrics make that sound.

  • wow i didnt know who chely was before this but WOW, bravo for her!

  • Ooooh that lesbo Chely is hawt >:O

And she is powerful, I admire her Bravery. I loved that little piece of her confession. It really makes me impressed.

  • Another straight, right-of-center Christian for gay rights here.

  • I bow my head to all straight people who are batteling along side gay people to end the bullying, the hate and the segregation!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!

  • I would call that Trevor hotline if Magical Trevor answered it :o

  • I LOVE YOU, KATHY!

  • I am straight and I believe that gays should have the same equal rights as the heterosexual.

  • @TheHermit1 She was, but they basically ran her out of the genre and community when she came out formally. Chely's just telling them to deal with it I am here. I think that's the distinction they're making there.

  • Did anyone else notice how transgendered people were hardly brought up throughout the entire interview?

  • nate berkus needs to be my boyfriend.

  • Thank you to everyone who was on the panel. :)

  • in australia its not 4 time more likely its 13 times

  • Wait Nate is gay?? Damn I feel so weird now that I know he is gay while I have been jacking off looking at him everytime he appeared on Oprah..

  • Comment removed

  • I AM GAY MALE FORM oregon nad in deaf gay community in deaf comminuty can daef gay too

  • Larry is harsh as fuck!

  • It sucks being in high school in a time like this, but I think the general public opinions are changing. Just have to deal with them now, because they are improving, I think there is hope. Of course there are individuals that are hate filled, and that's hard to deal with, but it's getting better..

  • I feel like Kathy Griffin is the only one who is not about her ego and just talking lots but not really saying anything

  • @javydavy543 she is the only one who is not afraid to address the real causes of homophobia in the US. All the others are too scared to upset people so they just talk around the issue. Thank you Kathy.

  • @javydavy543 So...... you like her but you hate her?? O.o

  • Am I the only one who thinks Elton should take off his sunglasses?

  • Seriously. Some of you are showing your a bully. Bullying Wanda. I'm sure she has and done more than the average non straight joe. We ALL got weaknesses. As can be shown. Don't need and snicker on her comments just because there not good for your view point. And anyone who knows Kathy knows she is a man inside lol Wished this episode was longer. With Elton, Miss cho, Ellen, Rosie, Sulu, Leonardo, Dan from Roseanne show. All non-straights.

  • @AllenTax Dan from the Roseanne show? lol.His name is John Goodman, and why did you decide to throw him in there? jw

  • Dear Everyone and Anyone,

I'm straight but that doesn't matter. I am an ally for you. I've taught my 9 year old to kick the shit out of bullies and to stand up for everyone! We love you. We support you.

    Love,

    Us

  • Hell yeah, Nate. "Where are our heroes? YOU be that hero." Adults, even if it's not your child on the receiving end of bullying, don't think you don't have a responsibility to STAND UP and do something about it.

  • I don't mean to sound shallow but at 2:13-2:20 are they not two of the most gorgeous people you've ever seen? HOT!!

  • Be sure to watch Cadillac kimberly on Youtube.

  • Thank you both for making life a bit more bearable for gay and questioning youth!! I needed you so bad as a teen.. thanks for your courage to helping us!!

  • I KNEW IT!My mom has a huge crush on nate and my dad and i have been telling her that he is gay!I KNEW IT!YES!

  • Unfortunately all the talk about "go to an adult" isn't the answer.. there's nothing magical about adults that makes them morally correct, if a gay kid goes to an adult who happens to be a christian republican (which is probably half of the country) they might get scolded for sinning and told to grow thicker skin.. or worse yet, if they went to a priest at a church to confess, that priest might be licking his chops because he found his next rape victim.

  • Wanda...seriously...your stuttering exposes your fear of saying anything that has meaning. 'Talk to your parents?' Are you that stupid? If kids had parental support Wanda, they would not be contemplating suicide. Way to go Wanda, for giving 'advice' to isolated suicidal youth that adds to their isolation. Your appearance on this show did absolutely nothing to raise awareness of this social issue. I was a fan of yours.

  • @twoqute2bstr8 I can agree. With my parents finding the issue hard and thus I felt even more distant from them... So no, telling parents doesn't always help, at least not for this situation. For anyone reading that feel indifferent of telling your folks, dont feel they will reject you, mine didn't. And you don't have to tell them now, you can later. But talk to someone, and know there's many of us, you're never alone.

  • @twoqute2bstr8 yeah I always thought she was smart & quick witted but this live interview shows me she's no good without someone giving her a script & telling her what to say. I'm glad she came out as gay but she's a disappointing representation for us if she doesn't have the balls to say anything of real value. I guess she is too scared of upsetting the black community - after all, they are the majority of the people who buy tickets to see her shows & they are the most homophobic. Money talks.

  • It sucks that all of this happened, but it's awesome that people and the media are really discussing this issue

  • I would say please - get involved - stop it - this is way too many LGBT youth that killed themselves in the past few weeks - I am involved - it is not right

  • I'm 14 and live in a small town. I don't live in America and the only homophobic people in the community are like people in their 50's and stuff. There's like a dozen bi and gay/lesbian people at my school and they're all like some of the most popular people. I think it's from all like the singers and famous people like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert. Maybe instead of telling kids to just simply accept it, show them it's cool, the advantages to being bi. Maybe that would get to them?

  • "I would have not gone to those nuns" lol all nuns are not that bad but I get what Kathy means...

  • im gay and i think it will never get better , i think this shit will happen and happen again and again, thers alot of hatfull and sad people in this world

  • @sevinisthe1 there ARE a lot of hateful and sad people in the world, and they might never change, but what does change is that you get to grow up and choose who you want to spend your time around. i just graduated from college, and now for the first time in my life, i get to decide who i hang out with. i don't have to be in class or dorms or anything with people who make me feel uncomfortable and bad about myself.

  • @sevinisthe1 If everbody had a pessimistic outlook on problems, nothing would ever change. Start by feeling hope, and then act in whatever ways you can, to stop bullying and maltreatment of weak people around you. Joining an organization is a terrific start. Power of positive thinking! Good luck.

  • Yeah I'm here too. Just drop a message and I promise to reply. Be strong and don't be afraid to be who you are!

  • Hope this vid helps young people. I remember what it was like..and it's true, it does get better. It's pure hell for a while, but hang in there! It's a different world today than it was when I was in school....there are people to talk to, that care, even in the smallest of towns...just hang on until you find them, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Please remember, death is permanent, and "they" win if you give up.

  • @Trashfished YAWN. Is that the best you can do ? Not very smart are you ? If you want to shock a gay person you have to do way, way, way better than that. Are mummy & daddy not paying enough attention to you today so you have to come on here looking for attention ? Poor you. I think there is something worse than a faggot and that's a closeted, self-hating faggot like you who comes on here looking at gay stuff and then complains about it. Accept your gayness.

  • @Trashfished YAWN YAWN YAWN. You're not smart enough to come up with anything original are you ? Like I said, if you're looking to shock the gays you need to be doing better than this - far you are just making us laugh. You're a silly little kid and you talk like a silly little kid. COME ON closet queen, try a little harder !

PS. We love you even if you don't love yourself. We love all the gays like you - even the closet cases.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I'm here for anyone who needs to talk! I am a lesbian, and I know exactly what it's like to be bullied, so if you need someone to talk to who is gay, don't hesitate to come talk to me! I hope I can help you in every way that I can! <3

  • Kathy and Chely make excellent points at the end. Kathy: "just because you come from a family that bullies doesn't mean you have to be a bully too." Chely: "There are adult bullies too." This hits painfully close to home. The person in my family who I was closest to was my uncle -- my dad's brother -- who was gay. My dad bullied him his whole life. I called my dad on his bullying; he called me a liar & bullied my uncle even more. My uncle died of a massive stroke one year ago: bullied to death.

  • @shaynapunim1 I just read your post and ..I just wanted to say I'm so sorry for your loss and I appreciate (also) that Kathy Griffin and Chely pointed out that it could also be adults and within you're own family. I myself have expirienced it. All we can do is continue to help others who are in need and who are being bullied and speak out against those who are the bullies. It will get better , it really will we all just gotta be patient.

  • @shaynapunim1 I come from a family that is some what okay with me being a lesbian. What I mean by that is my mom and my two sisters are cool about it, while my step dad and my brother are not. Before a finally told my mom, even though she said she kind of already knew, my step dad said "I feel like all gays and lesbians should be shot in the face, for they are a sin and don't deserve to live." He said this when I got happy about seeing a rainbow. I'm afraid of him, but i still go on, i have to.

  • I love Wanda as a performer, but I think Sarah Silverman would have made a better guest on this program.

  • i know it made sound naive but i honestly dont understand why people hate on gay people. they are just like anyone else. i know many and they make my life so much better. i dont think i would be the person i am today without these wonderful people in my life. if any one needs someone to talk to i'm here

  • @givenchylover YOU'RE AN AWSOME PERSON!!! GOOD FOR YOU

  • @WhyDoUNeedSmack why thank you i bet your pretty awesome yourself!

  • @givenchylover Thank you for understanding! I wish there were more people out there who are like you, understanding and kind and I bet super awsome~! ;3 *hugs* Can we talk sometime? ^^ Please? :3

  • @italyXgermanyforever of course would you like my email address?

send me a message here if you want my email address . i would love to talk to someone new! also i'm gonna go on a hunch here and say your a hitalia fan. did i spell that right? one of my best friends is and shes really getting me into it. i apparently i'm canada..... *hugs*

  • "I wouldn't have gone to those nuns..." - Kathy Griffin, I love you.

  • Kathy griffin understands the situation the best she expresses it the best

  • The Give a Damn video would have been better if Idina had asked her husband Taye Diggs to speak on it too. We need more black people to speak out for us because the black churches are the most homophobic.

The other Give a Damn video (not shown here) features Kelly & Sharon Osbourne which is great but it would have been much better if Ozzy had the balls to be in the video & speak out for us too because the straight guy audience he appeals to need to see it's OK to be allies of ours.

  • i was waiting for the lea michelle part

  • oprah should do 'date nate' gay version

  • kathy Griffin and Nate Berkus hit this out of the park.

  • "I wouldn't have gone to those nuns." LMFAO.

  • @ilovepop91 yeah that made me smile too !

  • nate will u mary me

  • It's great that people are speaking out against LGBQ bullying. I was bullied as a kid, and it would have been great if back then someone spoke up and stopped it. A lot of the teachers even closed their eyes to the bullying at my school. When I told my parents, they told me to ignore it which meant I endured bullying all throughout junior high and high school. I'm not gay , that's not the reason I was bullied. This issue isn't just about gay bullying, it is about bullying period.

  • We were Born This Way.

  • THE NEXT STORY gingers commiting suicide for believing they have no souls, start talking about that LARRY KING

  • From personal experience, I can say having no one talk to when you're being sexually harassed over Dont Ask Dont Tell, it's hard as hell being trapped on a military base with your chain of command trying to root you out while another man toys with your heart. It's not easy, but even if you can't find an adult, at least there's the internet, there's someone, there's ways, there's help. I almost ended myself and would never want that on someone else. I'll listen, even if you're a stranger.

  • While I like and appreciate everybody in this episode, I don't think they actually get to the main issue. It's the fact that if you are being bullied for being gay (or they think you are) you're not going to tell a teacher/parent because that means admitting it to yourself. Why do you think they call it a closet? You're closed to the world, and if you're bullied, you feel terrified and alone. And that's when people kill themselves.

  • I was the smallest kid in my grade. I was born with crossed eyes. I was given the name David. I understand, I sympathize. I love you because you exist, like God does. I will never reject you, Jesus didn't. Don't let the assholes get you down, IT WILL GET BETTER!

  • Ok..... people with the right way of thinking, c'mon! Lets all move to Canada! Leave all the dumbasses in the US!

  • @marikitna haha. Canada is a GREAT country :).

  • "I'm your people magazine's 50 most beautiful, I'm your American Legion Woman of the Year, I was the FIRST artist of ANY genera to play and sing live in Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein, I was the first; and I'm gay." <3

  • @brettteslaa yes that was a very powerful statement. It's great she came out !

  • Thank you Kathy Griffin for being the only one on the show to have the balls to address the cause of the problem - right wing politicians and so called religious leaders. I'm glad you were on the show. Wanda - please don't do another one of these shows when it's clear you don't have the balls to say anything - we could have had someone else useful contributing to the debate instead of you being weak and wishy washy.

  • @Iceblooo right on! Kathy Griffin nailed this articulate, strong and to the point.

  • @Iceblooo That's funny because Obama won't resind 'don't ask don't tell,' the democrats in control won't do anything for gays. Shut the fuck up.

  • @Ruinous Then just keep believing right wing talk radio and right wing Fox news, vote Republican and then see how much change you really get. Hint - take a look at the eight years of George Bush smart mouth !

  • @Iceblooo Yeah, Wanda is usually so outspoken and brash - why so meek when it comes to this issue?

  • @sksunkist one of the most homophobic groups in the US is black churches so it's great that Wanda came out but we needed her to be intelligent and to be a good representation of black gay people. She wasn't. We need more black celebrities to come out of the closet because many black people still actually believe being gay "is a white thing". We need them to know their sons & daughters have just as much chance of being gay as the rest of the population.

  • @Iceblooo From watching the video it was Chely Wright that actually addressed this politician and religious leaders in this particular video with Kathy just stating after Chely mentioned that it was these individuals as well. Chely even mentioned that there are ADULT BULLIES.

  • @DonnaTroyFan you obviously didn't watch this from part one. Kathy is the first one to mention politicians and religious leaders within minutes of the show beginning. There are four parts to this interview.

  • @Iceblooo I literally feel like this should only have been with Kathy, the Project runway guy and the mother.

  • what is needed is a place for people to be themselves, to have a friend/relative/neighbour they can talk to or online, youtube has helped a lot of people including myself, there is help out there it just needs to be found and used correctly, as a young teen i found it extremely difficult and alone but as i got to about 16/17 i found online websites, vloggers etc which helped me and are ultimately the reason i am able to write this post now

  • I'm straight and I am an ally. I'M HERE IF ANYONE NEEDS TO TALK!!!

  • @carlasue88 We thank you and we love you ! Do you defend gay people when straight people around you say homophobic jokes and comments because that's what we need. We need more straight people to be our friends and supporters even when we aren't in the room. Too many straight people say they are our friends but then cave in to peer pressure and make fun of us with their straight friends when we aren't there. This needs to stop too.

  • @Iceblooo Well I try, but to be honest, I don't really spend time around homophobic people. But I love to share love and tolerance on my facebook page!!

  • @carlasue88 count me in

  • @carlasue88 thanks we gay people are happy to hear that their are nice people like you around. So from the bottom of my heart thank you for being a friend

  • @carlasue88 thank you, for being an example

  • @carlasue88 ur very sweet

  • @carlasue88 Hear Hear! I am an ally! Stepping forward to help anyone being bullied!

  • @carlasue88 WE appreciate our straight allies and love you!

  • @carlasue88 You rock! Thank you!

  • You will NEVER stop bullying. It simply won't happen. You can not control other people's behavior. The only behavior you can control is your own. We need to teach kids that suicide is the most selfish act that anyone can ever engage in, and we need to teach them that it always gets better. Sometimes, it seems like the bad times last forever, but in the end it really does always get better. We need to spend less time trying to stop bullies and more time teaching kids to handle them.

  • @galefan2004 Telling kids that suicide is the most selfish thing you can do will probably only make them hate themselves more when they have suicidal thoughts. We need to be emphasizing that those thoughts are natural and ubiquitous, and yes, that it gets better. We need to tell them that they're not alone; it's the only thing that we KNOW makes a difference.

  • @carlasue88 -- All the times I was suicidal, the main thing that stopped me was thinking of how devastated my parents would be. I can't speak for every suicidal person, but I suspect being told they're selfish cowards doesn't help at all--it's just kicking a person when he's down. But saying something as simple as "I'd really miss you if you weren't around" shows this person is important to you, and maybe just that bit of affection can help.

  • @Nackles Exactly! There's a huge difference between saying suicide is selfish and making sure people know they are loved and valued. One is using shame, the other uses love and compassion.

  • @carlasue88 Ive counseled many people. Many have had real issues and some dramatize for attention to compensate for other issues. I have mixed feelings for those who dramatize since they give those with actual issues a bad reputation making people hold onto things like "oh you're selfish" well technically, it's my life, how dare i choose to or to not live it for me. Hearing the latter though is a much better way of handling it.

  • @galefan2004 Gay discrimination is formally accepted and widespread. Your reasoning is flawed.

  • I love Idina Menzel!!

  • what u have 2 remember is that the very very vast majority of str8s do not and will not give a damn. most believe that we have got enuf rites and do not understand what the problem is

  • @losarman Coming from a small town, in the middle of the Bible belt, in the middle of Ohio, I can simply tell you that that is simply just not true. The truth is, straights to care. Sure, some of them (the vocal minority) are jerks, but the vast majority actually does care.

  • @galefan2004 ...but they don't care enough to do anything about our situation. Tolerating us and caring about us are two very different things. If the majority of straight people cared about us we would have equal rights in every area of our lives.

The sad truth is most straight people do not care. They believe the lies that right wing politicians and religious leaders say about us.

  • @Iceblooo That's why we need laws to take the power over gays out of the hands of the mean heterosexuals. Not all heterosexuals are mean!

  • I agree with Kathy Giffin. It is our bigoted leaders that send out a message that any minority does not deserve equal rights and acts of violence are all right. It also supports ideas of self hatred or often self destructive acts.

  • I will Pray for all of you...God Loves you

  • @searchijango thanks for the kind offer but how about you stand up in your church and speak out against any hatred of gays that the preachers are teaching ? Challenge their hatred and let others in your congregation see that you are brave enough to speak out against hatred. That would be more useful than prayers.

  • The time has come to start calling out the Christian Church as the bullies they are...If you want to be anti-gay within your church walls , then so be it....But when you step out and start calling people that don't share your beliefs as "bad" or "evil" or somehow not worthy of common respect....then you are a straight out BULLY and deserve the backlash you get. It is WRONG and WILL NOT BE TOLERATED anymore!!!

  • @SeattleRexx it's not tolerated in many other countries. Unfortunately religion in the US has way way way too much money so politicians are too afraid to make them behave. Religions use this vast wealth to influence laws. They make BILLIONS on the world stock markets so we should need tax their earnings then they would not be so powerful. It's time to make religions get their noses out of politics.

  • i see many bullies on youtube who take delight in using the "F" word to describe gay, lesbian & transgendered people.

they think they have god on their side cause their preacher & the bible says gay people are disgusting.

because one professes to be a "christian", a preacher, or reads the bible do they have the right to bully gays. in fact they're ignorant, intolerant bigots and should be told so. the bible has never given anyone the license to hate. yet many believe they have that right!

  • It's so upsetting that they even needed to do this. Are we really so backwards that our children are bullying each other to death? This is a true social epidemic, and we all need to take action.

  • Thank you Larry King! We can't stress how important it is to put an end to all forms of bullying especially antigay bullying which is sanctioned by the institutionalized homophobia of this society and is likely the most prevalent form of bullying. Laws need to be changed to eradicate the second-class citizenship of lesbians and gay men, of bisexual and transgendered people, and bring everybody's citizenship up to first class. That is the only way antigay bullying will come to an end.

  • I am so fucking grateful that we have someone like Kathy Griffin, who speaks up, and gives her all to help out in this matter.

And to Chely Wright, I thank her everyday, her story changed something within me! <3

I love evryone on the panel, but those two women, really changed me, and made a diffrence for me, I am forever grateful!

all of this need to stop!

  • @affiliate30 What are you talking about? Ridiculous.

  • RIGHT ON CHELY, 2 THEE OWN SELF BE TRUE, & WE LUV U
