  • @TheZbane he's probably mixing with his head up there. That's probably why it sounds so bright.

  • hes amazing... but why does his high note have to be so bright =( its hard to blend with as a darker baritone.

  • ohygod is that captain jack? he just got 5billion times hotter

  • this is the sexiest version of the song i've ever heard!!! i love john barrowman, and i'm probably the only american who is as big of a fan as i am :)

  • @cutypie12 There are tons of Americans who love John. I am one of them. We're not going to get into a who is a bigger fan in America of him....because I can spew facts that would make your head spin.

(like the amount of money we spent to go see him at a con in Chicago, and then he couldn't even make it because he screwed up his ankle. :P )

  • I love the way you look¡¡¡

  • I feel that John is more suited for Gaston than the Beast in my opinion ...

  • the beast and the phantom are very close to each other character wise... john sings too kindly to do either the way that is needed.

  • 2:16 - 2:58 ... best part

  • O My Gosh I Love This Song Before I Liked Jack And I Find This I Love John So Much Hottes Voice EVER

  • WOW, he holds that last note a long time!!! I could see him more like the phantom than the beast. :)

  • nice

  • I love the song! THe lyrics are just beautiful :-)

  • I actually can see him as Beast. I've heard different guys sing this song, but this has such emotion and power put into it. AMAZING, SPECTACULAR, WOW!!!

  • Im auditioning for the Beast in my high school and i want to sound just like you

  • The last noest were really impressive, holding those notes for such long time is not easy at all...really amazing, and live performance makes this even more amazing

  • John, I love you, but you're not the Beast. The performance of the song is great, just not very Beastly.

  • i really love this song! i just posted a video of me singing it you guys should check it outt, its not quite the same as this though haha

  • Wow! John Barrowman nails it. (No surprise!)

  • ugh, his voice is way to thin sounding for this role. The Beast is supposed to have a deep gruff voice, with much darker tamber. This guy sounds like a puppy dog version of the beast. Terrance Mann does it the best.

  • I've just discovered Barrowman's singing, and boy am I glad I did. every track is good, he has a very theatrical voice which suits this Broadway music very well.

  • Amazingly good voice but yea, isn't it supposed to be sad? I would really love to hear some more of him.... love the accent when he says "can't" ^^ <3

  • Well check out my page. I have all of albums uploaded.

  • he sounds really british in this

  • @LeeloBabesz Which is funny because he isn't, lol

  • well he is scottish.... that is british

  • @LeeloBabesz No, it's not. Not at all.

  • @Selfexplanitoryblog the accent is the joyous result of childhood in UK, and the rest of his life in the US. God this man is amazing :)

  • Good voice, but in my opinion he is not in character. This song should have a hint of saddness to it, whereas he seems to be focused more on hitting the notes. He does beautifullly, but I just can't feel the emotion behind the song.

PS: Instead of saying illusion, he says something else, what it is? (ig goo shun?)

  • i think he is saying everything right, he just has an accent.....

  • well i would say most people have an accent...

  • The voice is nice, but not right for the role. As well as this, it sounds as though he doesn't actually understand the role. He appears to be interpreting each word literally and not within the context of the song. E.G. "Passion" . . . in the context of the piece, the word passion is used as an antithesis to the actual meaning of the word, or to highlight the lack of passion, and yet he sings the word as though it is full of passion. . . . That, to me, doesn't make sense!?!

  • That last note was AMAZING..that is is so difficult to hold..and he holded the note in so many time..that was amazing

  • I would really like to hear him, live, after he's had a month or two in the role to really find the voice. Studio recordings are one thing, and this is fantastic, but he'd probably be even more awesome after he'd played the role for a while.

I need to get some of his CDs.

  • @kittybirg Well John played the beast many years ago. But this is the only live recording he's done of him singing in that role.

  • i think he's great as both the Beast and the Phantom.

    he has an amazing voice

  • John Barrowman would be great new Phantom!!!!!

  • Agreed! I don't like a tenor like this as the Beast.. But he sounds like a phantom =)

  • you aren't a poor little loser .. I find it sexy too! really sexy, Very Sexy, drop dead no going back SEXY! lol

  • omg - this is wonderfull - a great beast:)

    thank you for uploading^.^i'm happy:)

  • I can't see him as the Beast, but definatley Phantom... not perfect for the part, but a great cover, and his voice still gives me goosebumps... He still performs this song with perfection, he does it with his John Barrowman twist, not a Beastly tone.... I LOVE YOU JOHN BARROWMAN!!!!!!!!!

  • Love Mr Barrowman and sings this well BUT got nothing to do the character, his voice isnt dark enough. dont believe me compare to Bway cast on here.

  • I think his voice his brilliant for the part! IMHO I understand why he's not singing it ver beastly like. It shows that the beast has a gentler side and it shows how he actually wants to love her...that

  • yeah, but the beast can sound gentle and show that he wants to love her while actually sounding like a beast

at the moment, he sounds more like gaston

but i think pple should give him a chance to actually attempt a more beastly voice before they judge him

  • IIIIEEEEAAGGHH!! I HAVE NEVER HEARD HIM SING BEFORE! He may not be a beast, but he is still awesome in Doctor Who. Nice voice too!

  • Yeah, this guy is a Phantom, not a beast. There is a way to get a lightness to your voice and still have it be deep.

  • A little too tenor for my tastes, but pretty good!

  • good singing, but i think he shud be phantom instead

  • *is in love* John Barrowman is amazing

  • I am not a big fan of him singing this. He has a very talented voice, but I have trouble believing him as the Beast. I am sure he played the part beautifully, but I have heard and seen better. It all comes down to preference, and I am just not a fan. I can see why people appreciate his portrayal of the Beast though. =P

  • Sorry to all you people who like this version, but i picture the beast having a more deeper singing voice.

  • Well he should, the beast should have a deep gruff voice. But if you have ever seen the stage version, and know what context/scene this song is being used, the beast's voice shouldn't be so heavy. It needs to be light and laced with emotion. John sings this song beautifully and I think if I ever saw him when he played the Beast, seeing him live would just move me to tears.

  • I agree

  • when he says "...then who?..." at 2:14

ruins it for me, but i still love John!

  • Aww, how come?

  • totally agree. this guy is not the beast at all im sorry!

  • @MangledxImagination SERIOUSLY.

  • @MangledxImagination I totally agree. He said it almost gleefully, It should have been said with a lot of sorrow in his voice. imo, the whole song is sung that way, and it just doesn't come across as a painful song, but a gleeful one.

  • @tsjrlover yeah, but still love him!

  • He does a nice voice - as mentioned - just no beast for me

  • damn

  • james barbour sings this a lot better

  • hes good...but he's no "Beast.." maby he could be him if the Beast was a little kid

  • yeah, not its not doing it for me

  • Actually, he was the "Beast" during part of the two-year run in the West End.

  • are you kidding really!

wow, i thinkk he's too soft sounding, but you never know this is a recording

  • wow i did this production last year for my senior year, and i wish our beast sounded like that, it would have been so great to work with someone with his skills.

  • Woweee, John Barrowman has skills!!

I luuuurve Beauty and the Beast and when i saw it a few weeks ago I didn't think i'd like the added songs very much but actually this one's pretty fab! :)

  • i love john barrowman and beauty and the beast..

i saw him as the beast when i was a little girl - i cried because i didnt want to go home!

the disney magic remains with me to this day :)

  • my darling most wonderful best mate must really love me because shes taking me to see him in panto this year, xx I LOVE HIM

  • I love this song, and I quite like John Barrowman, but this song is totally not for him. The beast is supposed to be a bit more manly and gruff. He may as well be singing "I'd do anything"

  • I love this song! I love how he says "Can't" hahahaha it's great!

  • If you love this song, you will want to check out Kurt Bowen's version...WHOA!! I don't know if it's on YouTube, but I know it's on Myspace Music. Just type his name in and it will come up...absolutely AMAZING!!! (and he doesn't have a full orchestra to help him, either:)

  • I just started to like him after watching him in "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" here in Toronto... he's got a great voice... but man, he can be really full of himself sometimes. But meh... at least he's not a Simon Lee... ;)

  • Anything Goes, Miss Saigon, Matador, Phantom of the Opera(sigh), Hair, Rope, Sunset Boulevard, Red Red Rose, Aspects of Love, Evita (double sigh), The Fix, Hey Mr. Producer, Putting it Together, Beauty and the Beast, Company, It's Better With a Band, Loves Labours Lost, Beautiful and the Damned, Chicago (triple sigh), A Few Good Men, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Aladian. In the fall the next panto he's doing is Robin Hood...if only I could go to Cardif...*goes to cry about living in theUS

  • i live in cardiff and i've never met him. I share your sorrow!

  • mum won't let me go to cardiff. she's afraid i'd get arrested for stalking XD

  • haha there aren't really any stalkers in cardiff...as far as i know xD

  • I just played the role. I think John has an amzaing voice, but I just don't think it's suitable for the role of the Beast. Did he ever play the role.

  • Yes in fact he did (which I just find amazingly sexy). Sorry that's my thoughts, anywhos. Yes he did play the role of the Beast on the West End. Looks like he had a grand time doing so as well. Check out his website for a complete listing of shows he's done in the theatre. It's amazing...I hope he does more broadway cds.

  • Now that you've told us that he's played Beast I have new found respect for John Barrowman because Beauty and the Beast is my favorite show.

  • Oh I know right! I saw a stage version of Beauty and the Beast performed when I was like nine, and then when I found out John played Beast...*sigh* It just made me love him even more, I think it's even cooler that he's also played two other Disney Princes, Aladian and Prince Charming! Amazing isn't it? Below I've posted a listing of the shows hes been in.

  • I like him singing this. I think he suits musical theatre rather than pop songs or something that doesn't require using the full power of his voice. Because it's so powerful.
