I found a brown bat in my outside cellar window well- I took him in and he warmed up he would have died outside it still snowing. he is now hanging upside down in a box i have for him-I have a spongw w water a mealworm and a grape for food-my question what now? is he still in a hibernation state? where and when do i release him? anyone have any thoughts? It is an awesome creature thanks in advance..
My house is surrounded by a salt marsh in the Florida Keys. The sheer mass of mosquitoes that breed here is absolutely ridiculous compared to most parts of civilization. There used to be bats in the keys a long time ago, and I did see bats in the night skies a few years ago. But my house is also next to a naval airstrip, so I can only assume that the fighter jets are repelling the bats with their ear-shattering noise.
It's really upsetting because I love bats, they're the best.
I know what you mean about the flying; I get these guys and big brown bats in my house in the summer. They're cute, but not when they're flying around your head. :P
i noticed how you said bats do that clicking noise as a deffence and that is complitely ubserd bats are completeley blind and that clicking noise they make sends waves and its hits a object tree ect and comes back to them and that's all they really have to any kind of sight and btw no offence but you really need a haircut
we had some type of tiny bat like that in our fireplace. I think he was trapped in there for a few days, tho I don't know how he managed to live that long since I heard they eat their bodyweight in bugs like every night. We saved him and I don't know how you got that guy to be so docile. Ours was desperate and squeaking and tried to bite my dad the whole time. I worried about rabies but the little guy flew away on his own a few minutes later. So...here's hoping he's out eating bugs right now.
I heard that there teeth are so small that if they where to bite you, that you may not even know. But I posted a video response to bats coming out of a chimney by my home. Its near night time when bats first come out but people are saying its a type of bird. Leave a comment and let me know what you think.
Bless you for your respect and excellent knowledge of these awesome creatures. Each summer brown bats frequent the large garage behind my house. I enjoy watching them fly laps around inside the building at night. They are silent and miss everything. I've not had the courage to handle any. They also roost up in the rafters. The only negative side of their presence is their guano and urine which they drop all over the place. For this reason I keep most things covered with plastic sheet.
Hey, nice video.. I love bats. I live in Japan and go to a nearby pond and watch them at dusk in the summer. I can see you really appreciate them. 3:08 is an especially wonderful view. Nicely done, and thanks for sharing.
You remind me of me because I go go out in my yard and help animals and look at them. I live in Australia though so we have different animals. I have 2 snakes and a lizard and I'm hoping one day to open my own exotic spider and snake farm.
I love all that bats do but my first close encounters with them were in my basement bedroom this summer, they startle me like crazy and freak me out just because they are "in my bubble" I of course capture them and release them but there have been so many (5) that it's gotten really frustrating and they have started to annoy me. I want to build a bat house though, I figure they might prefer that over my chimney
This was a very interesting video. I loved it! i love bats and all animals in general. This one was very cute too! very adorable. Send me a message back, maybe you can tell me more about bats! --you rock! P.S. nice hair by the way.
Haha people freak out about the snakes...Id rather pick up an Eastern Diamondback than a bat...Ill take the anti-venom over rabies shots any day. Cool though...by buddy caught one stranded on a tree in a lake after a really rainy week...it bit him...he got lucky lol.
I'll probably never get how people can be so deathly afraid of bats. They don't go after people and nest in their hair, they don't attack people and suck their blood, or anything like that. And they actually account for about 1 rabies death per year (although you still don't want it to bite you, just in case.) So theoretically, a dog is more dangerous than a bat. Cute little animals. They do a good job keeping bugs away.
VERY cool video, although you have MUCH bigger kahoonah's that I do. I have a couple of bats (one with a baby) in my vent in my attic, but I'd be skeptical of trying to hold one.
Go to batcon dot org to find out more about these AMAZING creatures.
We are getting 2 bat houses for our back -yard this month, both to get the harmful insect population down and to help promote the local bats here in Texas.
There are at least 32 different species of bat that frequent my state.
"He's so warm, you know, he's a mammal, not a bird, so he's real warm to touch." You probably just worded it awkwardly, but it sounds like you thought birds weren't warm-blooded. *shrug* it's not a big deal.
Yeah I love reptiles, but I love bats too. I hope to find some snakes tomorrow with the family at a lake. I, sadly, have hardly ever encountered any snakes in the wild, even though they are my favorite animal. Keep up the herping!!!! :P
@Reebbo i see these guys every evening fun to watch em catch bugs but they gotta watch out for the owls that are around 1 was in my grandmoms house caught it and let it go.
well, I am not really an expert on Bats. Ask me about reptiles and I can go all day, but mammals are a bit out of my range.
I knew it was not the Big Brown Bat (because of size). And I knew it was not the Grey or Indiana Bats because they look totally different, and are both endangered species.
Only 2 bats it could have been were the Eastern Pipistrelle and the Little Brown Bat. Both are small and look similar to someone who dosent know a lot about bats (like me).
I actually had to ask for an outside opinion about this one.
I LOVE bats! They are the coolest little creatures I think. Part bird part rodent..well they look like that. lol Aww Im so glad hes safe. Id be tempted to keep THAT, but thier best in the wild, naturally. Good job Dylan. I loved him.
A lot of these bats harbor rabies. Hope you had shots before handling bats.
