What a great shot of the Corvette SS and the GT Corvette oversteering out of the turn, what a bloody shame those idiots in Detroit ended the Chevrolet factory racing program, where could have Ed Cole,Zora Duntov, John Fitch and Bill Mitchell have taken them????????
At 1:20 you can see Colin Chapman's #59 Lotus-Climax followed by Carol Shelby's #21 Maserati followed by A.R.N Millar's #49 MG, followed by Jay Chamberlain's #60 Lotus-Climax.
Nice one-two finish for Maserati with Jean Behra and Juan Manuel Fangio finishing first and Stirling Moss and Harry Schell finishing second. The #21 driven by Shelby and Roy Salvadori was disqualified for "illegal refuel." Bob Goldich #47 had a fatal accident on the first lap of his stint in a Arnolt-Bristol.
Not Moss and Behra, this are Fangio and Behra winning the 1957 Sebring, you can see their faces at the end of the video. They drove the #19 Maserati 450S.
This is what you call RACING!!!! Not todays machines with all the computers assisting you. In those days drivers would die one after the next. Fangio, greatest of all time.
The tittle is a very bad error, since it is fangio and behra who wins this race but in 1957, on a maserati....please make the correction.....the film is an extract from the promotion picture made by Amoco company, official sponsor of the race.
Nothing against you, bro, but: 1)Schumacher 2)Senna 3)Fangio 4)Clark 5)Lauda 6)Prost 7)Piquet 8)Mansell 9)Stewart 10)Rindt. They were real legends, jenson button doesn't deserve to world champion, barrichello deserves it.
Juan Manuel Fangio the best driver of the world mi name is Gustavo Montini i from PuertoMadryn , chubut Patagonia Argentina, nice video, congratulations

When I was in high school, I had this race on Riverside Records' great "Sounds of Sebring" series -- the pinnacle of Fifties hi-fi! I remember the "experts" interviewed before the race saying the 450S had never lasted and would break. Wow, I'd go back there tomorrow if I only could!
WOW! Great vintage footage of this classic sports car race. Thanks for posting this on YouTube. We are already looking forward to the 2009 12 Hours of Sebring.
Google "World Sports Car championship"
Go to 1957...
Yes it WAS Fangio and Behra...
Moss and Schell
Though in this long a race, team drivers could be seen in any team car..

Great post. Rare footage of the Corvette SS. The race is 1957 instead of 1956 and Fangio won in a Masarati 450S. Thanks again.

Correct! Fangio won in a Maserati 450S, not a Ferrari... The car had number 19....
