The answer to REAL health care reform is quite simple-- freedom in medicine.

1) Make health insurance equally deductible if individuals buy it or their employers buy it.

2) Allow us to purchase health insurance across state lines.

3) Expand HSA's so people can price health services as well as health insurance.

2). Purchasing insurance across state lines would be a disaster. All the insurance companies need do is what the credit card companies do. Move their businesses to a state with lax laws and continuously increase their premiums while decreasing payouts. Credit card companies are ALL based out of DE for a reason.

2) Insurance companies that raise their premiums without increasing value will lose customers. I am from NJ where health insurance premiums are among the highest in the country because of unreasonable state mandates. I do not want to be insured for infertility, but I am forced to and pay for it.

Credit card companies compete. DE must be doing something right and other states would benefit by copying it. Is is wonderful that we have 50 states.

2). I think you've missed my point. The reason a lot of people file bankruptcy is because cc's operate out of DE. I work for a major company, but they all increase rates at their discretion to as high as 29-32% depending on prime. I fail to see how that is a good thing.

3). I agree that the cost of health care is getting out of hand, but we can't have hospitals competing based on cost. That would seriously effect the care they give. If people chose to go to lower cost providers, you would have to assume that the care would follow suit.

3) Computers are getting better and better and are costing less and less. Health care is fundamentally no different. Higher cost does not necessarily mean higher quality.

4) Currently we have the FTCA, Federal Tort Claims Act, where doctors who volunteer in free clinics are covered by the federal govt. In 5 years, there have been no claims because claims would go to a federal court instead of our insane jackpot system. This costs the govt nothing & everyone is protected.

Hey Doc freedom, here's what's happened with the free market.

I went to a hospital, needed to be seen, they directed me to an emergency room. Turns out I talked to the Dr for 10 min, a receptionist for 15 min, received a prescription, and was done.

I didn't have my insurance card with me, and received a $700 bill. Then I gave them my insurance card, and recevied a $500 provider discount, not payment, discount.

Now what sense does that make? That's blatent absue that shouldn't be legal.

3). HC and PCs are not the same. With comps you have a product and it works well or not, but thats all. With HC you have products, but what's more important are people. We have a severe shortage of prim care dr's decreasing pay will not aid that and it won't provide better service.

4).I don't know what the cost would be to cover everyone, I thought it was for the military. The big issue is again we have a major shortage of prim care docs. Taking 4 hrs away a week will be a bit of a strain.

There are people in the country that go and ask "what exactly are you trying to do?"

Don't confuse Bipartisanship with abandoning your principles, Hatch. Both parties have been abandoning their principles which is why America is so angry right now. They trust nobody. I do, however trust Ron Paul.

If the Dems really cared about reform, have them show a commitment to work with all parties, then shoot for a vote next summer- right before elections. If something can pass next summer, it means it must be good legislation since no Dem would want to lose their seat in the fall.

I have a great deal of respect for leaders such as yourself that are standing up and speaking out. Now we need a reform plan that helps get the government even further away from healthcare so that the free market can do what it does best.
