@dejong19 bro i agree but for the AMD price you cat beat cheep shit i got a MSI version of ATI Radeon 5450 and no problems only paid 51 dollars including shipping
My opinion. If you are overclocking, you might need to up the voltage. I would recommend DDR3 RAM. Vista is still buggy, switch to 7 if you can. Are you still getting this problem running one HDD (no RAID)?
@whooped9 i know you hate to hear it but in my previous experience with nvidia i used to get the same shit and it usually resulted in me buying a new card....after a few years i swapped over to ATI bro i love em. ATI cards, AMD cpus, and ASUS motherboards are all i stick with now. anyhow i know that doesnt help, your not overclocking the card or anything in your rig are you? i know my nvidia cards also always had fucking driver issues that would give me BSOD and dump the memory and reboot.
@whooped9 usually its getting too hot in your room too if you get these lock ups and it results in taking you back to the desktop with or without a reboot and you will get a driver failed, give it more air flow in your case and make sure the GPU has sufficient thermal compound on it...if you are having trouble with heat problems and you know for a fact you are, just put a few more fans in your case and make sure to use Arctic Silver thermal compound if you do replace the GPU thermal compound.
@whooped9 hope that helps 8) and when you do get ready for an upgrade try an ATI card out man you wont have these kind of probs. Im using the XFX ATI HD 5850 it never has heating issues and thats with the stock cooler on it. Matter of fact ATI claims that they beefed up the cooling on some of their particular cards and said that you will not have heat issues with them. I had a fuckin nvidia bfg 8800gtx oc 1gb gddr3 back in the day $500 new and it failed on me after a few months 8(...fuck nvidia
so many ppl here think that they really know something about graphic cards n stuff and they think like that you need some fucking 1ghz core clock and gddr5 @ 1.3ghz on ur graphics card really????? Ive been playing with my old school trashcancomputer with 2.6ghz single core and ati radeon hd4350 or 9400gt and 2gb of ram these new games, like bad company 2 , mw2, cod4, crysis, crysis warhead, just cause 2. That old rig runs all graphics on maxed but resolution 1024x something...
"i don't know what the problem is", then don't go right away blaming it on the 4870. I think its a great card. Not the best out there but a good one nonetheless.
the only way i have ever crashed my Ati Radeon 3100 is to change everything in crysis to high then change the AA to x4 or x2 i get black screen instead of a blue screen and my computer restarts itself and satrts up fine
This is a problem with ATI powerplay - what this does is it switches the clock frequency from 750MhZ to 500Mhz to save power - but what happens is that in game the switching between these two power modes casues the crash in the video. I researched this for many months before finding the problem.
Riva Tuner fixes this - download that and set the frequency to 750MHZ and set to start when windows starts - - this will fiz any crashes like this
it happens to me but with ati 4890, is an unstable CPU overclock or GPU, sure.there are videogames that are unstable with overclock, that is one of them
If your video freezes and the sound and there is no grey picture with scanlines on it then your CPU is too hot. As I can see you overclocked it over 300mhz. Do you use an non stock cooler? Lower your clock and it should work well or get a new cooler. But when I look at the date when this video was uploaded I think that you already solved the problem. ;)
@MrFelzi@MrFelzi That isnt the prob cpu is fine coz when the newer cpus overheat the auto turn off the pc.Gpu is the prob coz the hd48xx series card has errors in drivers so the driver atikmdag.sys fails all the time!He should buy a new card.
well... just do what i do, use the PC only for important stuff and internet, and for games: a good and old console, that...well.. was designed to play games only.... nothing against PC players, i love playing PC games, i just think consoles are a better option because you just have to play games on it, and because i think the pc should be exclusive for important stuff, and some more, but not games
hey try uninstalling cod4, the drivers, and the patches, reinstall everything again, and try overcklocking and UNDERCLOCKING in the ati control center, if still no results then try an older card (if you have one) to determine wether its the card or a component in the computer (cpu, processor, etc).
its probably a CPU freeze or ur Hard Disks aint connected good anymore i changed disk cables and all work fine for me now :) even i removed some of lag
It looks like your video card and pc are both fine, but your power supply is not getting enough juice to your video card. I recommend getting at least a 500 watt (or greater) power supply and I think that will solve your problem. It worked for me on my old GeForce 6800 card. Hope that helps!
i had this problem in the past and i'm having it again now. i believe the computer specs have nothing to do with it, sometimes reinstalling the game is just what it needs, the problem is, it happens to almost everygame i have installed oin my computer
nothing wrong with graphic card because if there was you would get different coloured stripes across the screen, vista without a doubt is your problem

i think its that problem every saphire 4870 has it under clocks the card to 500mhz and then over clocks the card automatically to 750mhz when you start playing a game this also happens with the 9800gtx+ im not sure if they all do this but my friends card did and he had a hard time fixing it
it is your memory it cant handle your cpu because you overclocked it the only solution is or overclock your memory or reduce the clock on your cpu like syedjaafar said
I have the exact same issue, but its only with a few games. For example, I get the same issue when I run Bioshock, Spore, Fallout 3 and sometimes it did it on Supreme Commander.
However, even when I run at max resolution on Red Alert 3, Racedriver: GRID, and others, it works a treat.
My specs are:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00ghz
2x 2gb 800mhz ddr2 ram
512mb Saphire ATi Radeon HD4870.
Im about to do a catalyst update and hopefully this works... =[[
cuz im getting that with all the newer games, anything younger than CoD4, i have no problem running, but CoD4 and up crash BSOD every five minutes of playing. it pisses me off.
something is wrong m8 becouse i bought a computer like this its nothing wrong with your grafic card i think the store who sold it to u did something with it becouse it seems that some of the stuff your pc have are not working together as they should that means they are wrong or they dont fit with your pc
@Q8soldiersOFdeath or when he upgraded to hd4870 he did not upgrade his power supply and he dosent have enough wattage to run every thing properly and at high gpu stress levels wattage drops and pc fails
Im pretty sure that its because your cpu is overclocked.. make sure its stable use 2XPrime 95.. it's not because of the 4870 :P.. either put ur cpu speed down to stock.. or up the voltage and then run Prime 95 for 12 hrs at least.. if it doesn't crash then ur safe most likely.. when you get time try running it for 24hrs..
dude its happen cause the heat of gpu. in my hd4850 when running cooler auto, too heat, but install catalyst 8.12 and change de cooler to a 45% to resolve this and even silent here
Hi, i had the same problem on an nvidia geforce 9600gt...the problem is the heat, the resolution and monitor is too big and thats why it crashes, you have 2 choices..change your monitor or your graphics card...
No, i foud a way to fix it! I Updated the bios from VC, all the games are ok, no crashes, exept, COD4. I dont know how to fix it. And have more heavy games, like crisis, fsx and both dont crashes anymore.
buy windows XP i don't EVER , EVER, EVER have crashes with windows XP only with SP 3 soo buy Windows XP Service Pack 2 and ur pc will not crash ... but u can try XP SP 3...
I have the exact same problem except I'm using 2 9800gtx's in sli. 4gb ddr3 and a q6600 on a 790i evga motherboard. No idea how to stop this from happening.
I updated the bios of my VC, all the games are working fine! GTA4, FSX, but the COD4 Still crashing sometimes, but it takes a long time to crash, before was about 1,2 minuts. I think i going to reinstall the game.
Hello could you tell me where I can find de bios update for the Radeon HD 4870??? I can`t find it on the sapphire website...i have the same problem as you had..
download the ATIWINFLASH and use it to update your bios, than download the bios from shappire website. If you cant find the files, please add me at msn, search on my profile
It is cpu for sure asus board will only reset the bios if your overclock fails to get into windows, it wont detect small errors or instabilities once you are in windows run an app prime 95 for atleast 2 hrs on small ffts that will truley test the cpu any tiny error it will pick it up, but also dont buy ati there cards are cheap for one reason and its not becuase they waNT TO SAVE THE CUSTOMER SOME MONEY, total lack of quality in the cards and the drivers are coded by monkeys
is the card overheating?
is the cpu overheating ?

@Q8soldiersOFdeath or when he upgraded to hd4870 he did not upgrade his power supply and he dosent have enough wattage to run every thing properly and at high gpu stress levels wattage drops and pc fails

u cheat me meh !!! i use 8800 gt also can play in high resolution! 100% is ur card to heat la !!! put it beside aircon
cheapkah 3 years ago
Im pretty sure that its because your cpu is overclocked.. make sure its stable use 2XPrime 95.. it's not because of the 4870 :P.. either put ur cpu speed down to stock.. or up the voltage and then run Prime 95 for 12 hrs at least.. if it doesn't crash then ur safe most likely.. when you get time try running it for 24hrs..

swatz85-why cod4 crash on your computer? the bios update not solve the problem completely, in all the games?
tomerleon 3 years ago
Hi, i had the same problem on an nvidia geforce 9600gt...the problem is the heat, the resolution and monitor is too big and thats why it crashes, you have 2 choices..change your monitor or your graphics card...
calboreansergiu 3 years ago
No, i foud a way to fix it! I Updated the bios from VC, all the games are ok, no crashes, exept, COD4. I dont know how to fix it. And have more heavy games, like crisis, fsx and both dont crashes anymore.

buraneli69 3 years ago
It is cpu for sure asus board will only reset the bios if your overclock fails to get into windows, it wont detect small errors or instabilities once you are in windows run an app prime 95 for atleast 2 hrs on small ffts that will truley test the cpu any tiny error it will pick it up, but also dont buy ati there cards are cheap for one reason and its not becuase they waNT TO SAVE THE CUSTOMER SOME MONEY, total lack of quality in the cards and the drivers are coded by monkeys
R3APERvsTYETREE 3 years ago
Dude try playing in default clock speed bios does not allways post "overclock faild" just reset bios and try again if not working RMA the card....
fanvetfanvet 3 years ago
Send me the GFX card and I'll see what's wrong with it. PM me, if you'd like to comply.
UnknownBallin 3 years ago
it is the cpu clock asshole
livonallemaney 3 years ago
I should never bought this video card "Radeon", lower price, but high crashes.
The problem is not with the overclock, i tested... Asus reset the computer if have a
overclock problem e show a messege on the post bios "Overclock faild" and restart
automatically the bios to default.
swatz85 3 years ago
It could be your CPU, try to reduce the Clock back, to its original settings. that should help!
gd luck!
