I have always had budgies all of my life, Buzz is my first Parrotlet, they are a totally different bird, I find the Parrotlets are more like the "King" of the castle, they have more ways to show you what they are thinking by their habits. Buzz has a strict daily ritual he likes to have and he will let me know verbally if my timing is off...LOL! For example, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and of course bedtime he lets me know precisely at 9pm.
My parrotlet shocked me and was starting to talk at 3 months. Very bright little birds. He's a major closet talker! So I hope one day he decides to just talk out loud to the humans.
I have a 6 mnth old green pacific male who does not yet talk. Any tips? Although when he listens to this video he chirps back at your bird. It's very cute so we are getting him a friend. Thanks so much for your video it made our day!
You can`t get her to talk, she will only mimic your speech IF SHE WANTS TOO and that is very rare because she is a female, most if not all talking parrotlets that I have seen are male, I didn`t get Chip to talk he just decided he wanted to mimic what I say. One thing you can `get her to do` is tricks as I`ve seen other female parrotlets do tricks, there are books on clicker training to do that.
I wish my parrotlet was as calm as yours. If she knows I'm home, and I walk out of the room- forget it- she will scream NON-stop until I come back. I know I shouldn't "reward" her behavior by then coming back, but I can't have my neighbors complain about her noise, so I pick her up and she stops SCREAMING.
I talk to chip every time I see him and constantly while interacting with him, I used the same words over and over that he is using in this video. I think because there is not a companion (except me) for him he has bonded to me as such that he wants to mimic me.
Also I think I am just lucky. In another video of him he talks even better than this and says a complete sentence.
but if the toys are below the perches he will poop on his toys, he is a poopy bird, i guess i will have to put his toys in the dishwasher? Chip needs a mommy
cute

I'm actually debating getting a Parrotlet. I love birds - but I've usually had budgies, or English budgies. :)

My parrotlet is the same age and he can't talk. It's really hard to hear and understand him. He's so faint and tiny sounding.

i have 2 parrotlets and it is very hard to get them talking was chip trained by you or did it learn itself?

I like the way you have his cage set up. The top is like the canopy of a forest.

you know if you put some perches lower down, you can attach toys on them to keep the top part less cluttered and give him more things to play with =P

Awesome birdy babble. You're right it does get more clear toward the end. Do you have a tripod? You could get a closer shot. Thanks for sharing!
