  • Hi,

recently my ipod stopped responding to touch, and the volume button died (after being scrambled with the power). Do you think replacing this will work? I think my ipod got water in it.

I need a new lcd and digitizer and I dont want to spend money on spare parts (£30ish)and find it doesnt work when a second hand ipod is £70.

  • did you get to test the ipod after this repair? if so how did it do?

  • cant say i have had much luck

  • Does it matter what side of the tape goes where. Like the current only goes one way or is it a two way thing. I know it goes up down not side to side. But does it only go one way?

  • Hi Gilksy1,

I've followed your guide many times and sometimes i find after putting the new ribbon on there is a loss of wifi functionality. have you had this problem too? any idea what causes it?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Bang on, just done this fix. originally had no wifi then the touch sensitivity went when i tried heatgunning it. its not that hard actually :)

  • Thanks for the instruction! How hot do you have the soldering iron set at to transfer the heat to adhesives?

  • @todesto

its a 55w weller iron so theres no temp setting

  • where i can find the ribbon for mi ipod touch 1g because i try to open but when i try to remove the battery i broke the ribbon the ipod turn on and everything but the touch doesn't work and some bottom thanks if you tell me a link that i can buy the ribbon thanks

  • Please dont enquire about magic tape as stated at the end of the video. This is a stationary product rather then the z axis 9703 for electronic use!

  • thnx so much for this video, you have no idea I loved it!! Im from Mexico, and i'm a girl.. but I love fixing things!! haha... but didnt realy know at all how to fix this kind of ribbons, thnx again! i lov u for making this video!! haha :D

  • Thank you soo much for this video! Used this as a guide to replace the flex cable on a 2G iPod after I borked it up removing the mainboard (put a rip in it!)... Worked perfectly!

  • Wow this actually works especially with the sand paper as well. At first, I thought I did it wrong but I had to restore it because the main board doesn't recognize the wifi flex cable.

Finally I fix this ipod touch for a chick who damaged it by your "booty sweat" from a party where she went to. The touch function was shot and had to replaced this piece.

Thanks again gilksy1. You are the man.

  • You can also get more of the adhesive and for cheaper if you search my user name wztahotshot08 on Ebay

I have strips of the adhesive in 6 in and 9 in strips singles or in quantities of 2 Feel Free to message me via ebay with any questions regarding this repair!

  • i dont have an ipod; but watching this clip was informative and enjoyable :) thank you gilksy1

  • Thanks for the upload on this. I've been following you with the PS3 YLOD fix even though the PS3 is R.I.P after three fix attempts and got a new one instead.

  • I would like to see a video of this ipod working after the repair.

I have used this same tape on 3 32gb ipod touches, and have had no luck. I followed everything in your video and keep having issues with the touch, and wifi aftwerwards. The reason for replacing the ribbon was for the wifi only not working. I have a $4000 microscope that i did the repairs under and I know the pins are dead on. ANy ideas, help, thoughts?

  • Great video. Only one of it's kind I have been able to find. THANKS!!!

  • thanks for the response I'll try another digi. This is the only video like this. keep it up! I believe there are many people in my shoes that buy a new digi and are ready to discard there ipod when there new digi doesn't work. Is there a way to test this? Is there a way to test the logi board to see if it's worth it?

  • Great video! I bought a new lcd and digitizer, however, board doesn't recognize the new touchscreen. Do you recommend doing this type of repair to fix this?

  • @alaska4evr to be honest first problem is probably the new digitizer, could be this but most likely the digi.

  • thank u! god bless ur heart! i have a better picture how to attempt this. too cheap to buy new. bought 8gb 2nd gen on ebay approx $45. everything seems to work fine but touch screen is dead. bought new didnt work. my hopeful idea was history. decided to win a 32gb 2nd gen that works fine. i swapped the screens. all screens work so i know thats not the issue. 8gb works otherwise. my guess is the wifi cable. bought cable now i need the tape. thank u for showing me how.

  • @xxgadixiegirlxx

did the new ribbon cable solve the touch screen problem??

  • Thank you SO much for creating this video.

  • are you the ebay seller, cause his ebay name is tomfgilks

  • @videomasters2468

    lol

no m8 my name is colin gilks and i live in england

where as he live in canada

just one of those things i guess!!!!

the gilksys have always been the guys in the know lol

    tell him i sent you

  • @videomasters2468 I'm the e-bay seller. If you look at some of my videos you'll see we're definitely 2 different people. I'm glad Colin made a video because its better than anything I could have done. This will make it MUCH easier for those who are going to attempt this type of repair. The only real difference in the way he did it and I did it is that I gave a quick sand over the connectors with 1500 grit paper before I attached the adhesive.

  • yep 100%

the reason why i didnt show a strip down and rebuild guide is because there are loads already on youtube......but after searching i could not find a video showing you how to reattach the main mother board ribbon!

  • did it work after??
