Art IS NOT anything. For me, Art must involve a process that demands the audience, the reader, the listener, to analyze the stimulus that he or she is receiving from the artist, which means that such process does not end with the artist's input, but something that continues indefinitely. Under such definition, it may seem as if anything could be art, but if you think about it, it's not like that. Not many things can withstand that.
By the way, I do consider that what GG Allin did was Art, even if he didn't think so, or even if he (or anyone else) gave a damn. One of my favourite artists ever!

Opinions, opinions...here's my penny's worth on this subject.
Art IS NOT anything. For me, Art must involve a process that demands the audience, the reader, the listener, to analyze the stimulus that he or she is receiving from the artist, which means that such process does not end with the artist's input, but something that continues indefinitely. Under such definition, it may seem as if anything could be art, but if you think about it, it's not like that. Not many things can withstand that.

That is a good question and a hard one. On short notice, I'd say that art is expression through a medium viewable by other humans such that you convey an emotion, story, addiction, etc. to them. Furthermore, it does function under aesthetics, but as to what those aesthetics are, I be hard pressed to say; there are more than there are people in the world.
