@watervermin yes and no, the PADI book will tell you yes and get you to chase the 1.6 PPo2 mantra. Everybody has a different make up when it comes to what makes them tick, some get narced at 100ft others handle it well deep. In hyperbaric we put people on pure 02 (mod 20ft @1.6) to 60ft (PPo2 2.75) with airbreaks every 20 minutes for hours (wound healing) without tox out. So the body can hang past the dreaded 1.6 but your mind sometimes can't and lack of proper training will get you.
Just learning to dive this summer. Watching videos of stupid people pushing it to the limit with the wrong equipment. You dont bring a knife to a gun fight!!
@dimputhegreat no it is more balls of stupidity. Diving deep is not about the "adrenalin rush" as you call it, it is about exploring where most don't go. With proper training and proper gas mixes it shouldn't feel like bungee jumping but a calculated adventure to a big new world. Guys like this will die, happens every year. The 250 won't do it the 300+ will, or a main failure in his system without a redundant backup.
its not really worth it if you wanna go deep why not just do the proper training and use trimix you cant have had very long at that depth on air, and i dont know how enjoyable it would have been
air? what's your PO2 of Air at 250'? Might want to think about that....not to mention all the other crap that goes along with using only a single 80...etc...only reason I am asking is b/c I am more concerned about your safety then anything else.
1.801 is PPo2 @250' grand mal seizure potential is very high but the narcosis may cause more problems. Some people can tolerate a high level of it. Who was the crazy guy the rode the whale to 400 on air? I know he had a reco station on the boat. Not for me I just like the pretty reef.
250 feet on air?...umm ...21% or nitrox.. is that not toxic that deep?
