I agree the double standard is wrong and women should be punished as men are. Polanski's crime, as I understand it, is not statutory rape but forcible rape. The girl's mother encouraged her to place herself in situations where this would happen, and the judge was trying to make a name for himself by throwing away the original sentence, and creating one of his own.
No, I think Challenger is simply saying that this type of ugly behavior will continue as long as people are only concerned with punishment, rather than elimination of cause.

Blanket punitive action is hardly an effective method of dealing with this issue. As repeat offenders on this show alone go to prove, fear of punishment hardly prevents pedophiles from acting on their desires. Sending one pedophile to jail doesn't keep another from harming another child. Understanding is needed in order to PREVENT actions of these damaged individuals. Once a comprehension is achieved, we can start to attack the root of the issue

How about we waste more money than we need to on jails, by sending rapist there for life rather than understanding what made them rapist to begin with, or trying to help them. On another note I'm not defending what he did, what did was wrong, but I wouldn't consider him a predator. Sometimes the charges were dropped (Texas). In other locations, the men were prosecuted, and a couple were given jail time (Ohio).
