  • Thank you. I have been wondering all weekend where abouts you setup the tone for storage in memory. The manual does not mention that the tones and encoding have to be preset before you commit to memory. As a result I kept on having to set it whenever I moved to the repeater channel.

  • I have a ft1900 how do I set it to scan for a

Tone I read the book but a video would

Be good when I'm on the road for a QSO

Any way to easy way to program it? Bob here. Thanks

  • @zbob2u Hi Bob - I no longer have the radio, so can't make a video :-( I also can't recall how you scan for a CTCSS tone but as you say, it should be possible. I suggest reading the manual in conjunction with scanning Google etc. for any other info hams may have put up on how to do this. 73 - Rob

  • g-day ... i just bought a portable UHF 1 watt radio, and when i talk to my mate in the 4x4 with his base UHF he can here me, but when he sends a radio transmison back i cant here him why is that ?? please i need to know asap going to tomson dam this weekend cheers ..

  • Rob..I have the exact same unit as you and have had it for a few days now. Quick question that I cant seem to get from the manual: how do I program in a scan of frequencies of 866.0 to lets say 867.0 in one continuious sweep in a loop?

    Just curious....

  • You should be able to do this by programming your lowest frequency into memory L1 and the highest into memory U1, then running a scan between the two. Page 45 of the manual explains how to do it - 'Programmable (Band Limit) Memory Scan (PMS)'. 73 - VK2GOM

  • Love these radios! Also have an 8800r...7800r is dead easy to program manually!

  • Is That Mt Bindo ?...

  • Yes it is... It makes me wonder whether it'd be better to program a brief location name in rather than the repeater callsign! 73 - Rob VK2GOM

  • Hi i just got this radio and im only listening cause i don't have my license yet,im going for my Technician Class License on the 6th of March.

I locked the PTT in the radio so i don't transmit by mistake, while i was trying to figure out the programming i must of hit the wrong button cause it transmitted for about a sec,im now scared i might get in trouble, will i get in trouble? I didn't have the Mic attached to the radio when it transmitted. I know it transmitted cause i saw the TX icon.

  • Hi James - dead easy, just get the frequency you want to store onto the button on the main VFO display (or even pre-saved as a memory) then HOLD DOWN the numbered button you want to save it in, until it beeps away. Takes maybe 2 secs? I have all the local repeaters saved in my 1-5 buttons. Let me know if you have any probs. 73 - Rob

  • Hi i forgot to mention something, you know how ya have channels? i mean for example if ya put in 10 freq. you will have channels 1 -10? Can ya do the same in buttons 2 -5?

i just tried doing it again but all it did was copy all the frequency's i had in button 1 in to button 2 :( and when i tried deleting all the freq.'s in button 2 it was also deleting the ones in button 1 :(

Sorry :( not trying to be dumb :( been trying to figure this out for a couple of weeks now.

  • even though i had the PTT locked in the radio so it cant transmit, for some reason it still transmitted :( , ithink i may have did something with the Auto repeater feature or ARTS.

hope i don't get in trouble :( Dont want to lose my license before i even get it :(

  • youl be fine mate, Trust me :)

  • Just passed my test on 3/6/09 got my callsign 3/12/09 :) im KB3SKU now :)

  • Congratulations! Welcome to the bands. 73 - Rob VK2GOM

  • Congradulations, mate :)

  • Yes - turn ARTS and BEACON to OFF. You only want to Tx when you press the PTT. 73 - Rob VK2GOM

  • Thanks for that,i figured that out a few weeks ago :) and thanks for the welcome.

  • Nice mobile radio there Rob.
