Well our Russian friend got it wrong on the Sun - it has been getting more active but less so for the lat 50 years. If he cannot read a graph of sunspot number then his interpretation of the rest is suspect.

You shouldn't over simplify ti like this, it is misleading. Just by looking at the International sunspot numbers from 1745 to the present, it is obvious that we are at the end of the last 60 year long active period. The 11 year cycle is superimposed on that 60 cycle. Right now we are at the minimum and it is not picking up yet.
