I have now driven the Mito 1.4 155hp and the Scirocco 1.4 160hp (in Portugal they cost practically the same and I was in doubt about which one I would buy). The Mito is good, but the Scirocco is in another league. For the same money (€1.500 difference...), there are no second thoughts. The suspension (DCC), the steering, the engine, the interior quality, the rear seats space and the gearbox are a lot better in the Scirocco. The whole VW feels more premium.
Don't know about Portugal but I just configured a Scirocco TSI 160 hp with sportpack to compare with a MiTo TB 155 with sportpack in Germany: The VW price is about 5000 € higher. That's okay since it's c-segment, but pleasy be realistic!
Alfa 25000, VW 30000. Both cars equipped with leather, sunroof, 8-speaker radio, 18 inch wheels andy many gadgets.

That has been a consideration of mine for a while, but I decided not to bother as I plan on buying a 159 or Brera in the near future ;) still sticking with the 2.4JTDm for both :D wonderful engine! the 3.2 V6 would be great, but I have to travel 17miles to work every day... and that alone is the average mpg of the V6, so I would be using around 2 gallons of fuel a day! Can't afford that unfortunately. :( Especially not with British fuel prices.=£1 per litre...
