I have one of the Exo Terra terrariums for my treefrog and I am thinking about getting him the Exo Terra jungle vines because he loves to climb. I was just wondering how you install them... how do the end points attach to the tank?
Hi! This video is a couple years old, so I hope you get a chance to read/answer this for me ;)
I notice you use the Medium Compact Top, and if I understand correctly, it holds 3 bulbs; in your case a 5.0 UVB, a 2.0 UVA and a Heat lamp. Are you using the heat lamp in the same fixture? If so, which size do you use, and does it maintain a nice heat gradient in your terrarium? It says a 5watt above, but I'm guessing that was supposed to be 50/75watts? Thanks!
I created a site, showmyreptile com, where you can upload pics, videos, start discussions, chat w/ other members, and start groups. Looking for members, would love for you to join. Thanks!
Isn't this setup a little too big for a snake that size? I heard some GTPs would sometimes pick security over hydration if the perches are too far away from a water bowl...
@HitomiNoRyu- That's true! However; her cage has so many branches that she can pick her branch from any distance from the actual water dish and still get hydrated, because a lot of times they will drink water off their scales from misting (or rain in the wild). In her cage she has a misting system that sprays her whole cage every 6 hours, so I'm not worried about her not getting enough water! But she's fairly active, and gets on the ground during the night a lot!
How did you attach the jungle vines to the top of the tank? I just bought a medium sized exo terra terrarium for my Jungle Carpet Python and I can't seem to keep the vines up to where he can climb on them.
@Midnight2534 If you tear the ends off the branches, it reveals a wire that you can twist with a pair of needle nose and just loop it through the wire mesh at the top of the cage! That's what I did and it still holds her, even now that she's about 10x the size she was in this video!
@Midnight2534 - It should be! It depends on how many vines he/she is across- If you put up enough vines (say about 5+) then it will distribute it's weight across all the vines and it will pull at the mesh evenly with weight distribution. If you notice that the wire mesh is starting to droop down or something or you just don't trust it- you can buy a piece of plexiglass and has it cut to the exact size of the top and put it on top of the mesh and drill holes into the plexiglass and (cont.)
@Jocelynmparris - (cont.) through the mesh and throught the plexiglass and back through so it's reinforced through both the wire and plexiglass (which will also hold more moisture for your CP.
What does CB mean? Does it mean "captivity born," because I bought two baby "C.B." Red Eyed Tree Frogs and I could not find out what that ment. Could you please tell me? THANKX! By the wayI like your snake and your setup is so awesome, I wish I was creative enough AND had enough money to do that, I will soon get it!
@Reptiles4723- Actually she is about 1.5yrs old and she's orange/red now with white and green spots on her head and down her back, but no solid green yet!!
The big branch you can get at almost any pet store (i.e. PetSmart and Pet Co) I believe that All Living Things makes it, but I'm not sure about that! Next time I see one I will check and repost!
I cut the ends of the vines off to reveal the wire underneath and then looped them through the top and back through the top screen since its mesh- It's really easy, just be sure to not let the ends of the wire poke out so your animal can't cut its self on it!
Not really! I get bit by her almost everytime I get her out of the cage whether that be to handle her, or clean her cage or whatever- part of that it because i don't reg. hold her and I feed her in her cage, but she's a good girl for a GTP- she's lost a lot of her redness and she;s getting all her green spots, but right now she's all red/orange with white and green spots, really cool! I want to do another video, but my cameria is broken :(
@Jocelynmparris She is more than likely a Biak GTP which are the more aggressive ones but with lots of handling you can tame them to where they don't bite. mine has never bit me but i handle her for a hour a day at least and have since she was 6 weeks old.
I'm going to be setting up a live-plant terrarium (no animals though since I'm headed off to college this fall), and I'm not sure of the lighting that I should use. I was thinking of using the Exo Terra Repti Glo 5.0 fluroescent lamp (26 watt), but I have no reference for how well it would light my terrarium, which is a hexagonal tank about 24 inches tall and 16 inches wide. It's going to be a tropical terrarium, so I wonder if that particular bulb would be too dim for such a large tank. Advice?
Sorry, such a late response! that sounds like a good idea, the light should be more than enough for plants, if not you can always put in a window or somewhere where it'll get more natural light as well- I'm not an expert in plants, but you should def. get a Venus Fly Trap (sp?) because they are awesome and beautiful!
@Jocelynmparris i think you shoulld put lots of colors and beautiful, different looking plants. add some small rocks, and you've got a beautiful terrarium!
She won't get very big, about 5-6ft long and about a silver dollar around... She's gotten a lot bigger already! She's still super bright red, too! I <3 her!
This set up looks great. The only thing I would recommend is cutting the cord from the heat rock and using it for decoration only. These are notorious for slow burning reptiles over long periods of time due to the Heat/pain nerve conduction in reptiles being far different than in mammals. For more info I would be happy to explain stuff to ya, just message me. After 25 years of snake keeping I have made every mistake possible and am happy to help people prevent the same mistakes. --Toons
I pulled back the green plastic part from the ends and there is wire under that- I took the wire and looped it through the top screen (which is wire mesh) with the end facing outside so that it can't scratch her. Works like a charm!
im thinking about buying a biak but im just wondering how long you can leave them alone when you go on a trip or something the automatic repti fogger sounds good but how long does the water last before it needs changed
I clean her's out everyweek. I just wait until mid-day to do it while she's sleeping bc she's nocturnal, but removing her from the cage would cause a lot of stress because they're not handled usually, so I just transfer her to another branch and leave her in the cage and take everything else out to clean, wipe down the glass, change the bedding ect. Once or twice a month would probably be good for a carpet python, but GTP have high humidity so I don't want any mold to grow so I clean it more.
I've been looking through terrarium videos for quite awhile and that has to be the best one I've seen so far. Your snake has very beautiful coloring. I myself have been considering getting a Green Tree Python and I would definitly try my best to make a setup like yours.
Aww, thanks! Getting a GTP started is kind of hard with getting them to eat, getting right temp, right humidity, etc. But after you get them going and they get into a stable routine, their super easy to take care of! I love my girl, she's a typical semi-agressive nature, but I've never been bit by her! Good luck in finding one! Let me know if you need any help!
