this lady could write and sang not sing, she throws down some truth in her lyrics and commitment to what she is singing...loved her style since I was a very young girl/lady/woman...and still do SANNG IT BARBARA MASON
Thank you FrankeyHoboken for this update! sometimes, I think of an old cut I haven't heard in a while and start searchin'. What can be said that wasn't said already? this music will never die.
I WAS A LITTLE KID WHEN THIS CAME OUT, I HAVE NEVER FORGOT HER MUSIC, IM 45 NOW AND I STILL BELIEVE WHAT SHE SANG ABOUT. THER IS MORE TO LOVE THAN BED AND BOARD. I WAS ABOUT 6 YEARS OLD,
Yes Earl, you are so correct. I am a jazz musician often on tour in Europe. Right now I am in Slovenia after a concert. I am just chilling in my room listening to my Philly grooves. It cools me out. I grew up in North Philly going to the Uptown a lot and I appreciate you, Ronnie, Norman, Karl and Rolands work. God bless you all. Peace, Jamaaladeen
You know when me , Norman, and Ronnie played on this I never really knew how deep this song was. Hearing it today sounds so therapeutic and reminds me of the best times back in the day. Ever the young folk would love this because it makes them sit down and listen to some true good quality music. When playing the drums at the time it was my job, now its almost unbelievable to hear it now. Sounds so good, Earl Young.
a man tells u every thing u want to hear or what he think is the rite thing to say until he gets u rite where he wants u nd r gullible ass (us women ) all was fall for their bullsh*t :(
Always a proud pleasure to add a Barbara Mason offering to one's "Favorites". Soooo sultry!!! BED AND BOARD, huh? Yes, I'm ready!!! Gaaad, does this woman evah draws out a situation. She should have done a rendition of "60-Minute Man" for the female side!!! The woman just weaves satin and velvet, fur suhr.
My ex-wife use to play this song to death, do you suppose this is why she became my ex? You are also correct about this being a re-make, the original 45 was much more emotional, in fact my ex could sing the hell out of this song. Puts me in a melancholy mood when I hear it.
BARBARA MASON HAS A BEAUTIFUL VOICE. ALTHOUGH THIS IS A GOOD VERSION OF THE SONG IT IS NOT THE ORIGINAL "45" VERSION. IF ANYONE HAS IT PLEASE POST IT. THE ORIGINAL HAD SO MUCH PASSION.
@blkshepherd Thanks for confirming, cause I was going crazy looking for the original and kept coming up with several remakes. You're so right, that 45 had more passion, very simple but much more emotional.
@blakpoet For some reason, the original 45 releases are always better than the re releases, mixes and added adlibs. As soon as I heard the first notes I knew it was not the same as the 45. LoL..i was about 13yrs old when this came out played it to death on my record player. You cant fool us children of the 60s and 70s.
At the age of 17 or 18 she wrote the lyrics and music for Yes I'm Ready, now that my brothers and sisters is TALENT! My EX-wife use to listen to this song a lot, hmm, wonder if there is a connection?
@HLeonick . What's up H? I have the original 45. I have to record it over the weekend, download it to my e-mail, then upload it to my youtube acct. I'm in the midst of moving so keep checking from time to time. I'll get it up for you.
It's not just the music of today, IT'S EVERYTHING. VERY few things are genuine. It's all marketing psychology designed to undermine young people's sense of self, and the music industry is inundated with garbage. I've recently started back in college at age 44 and wow, what a change! Every lesson feels rushed, the professor seems rushed with their Powerpoint, internet, get-it-if-you-can lectures. CONCEPTS and fundamentals are NOT BEING TAUGHT. I feel sorry for young people. It's neurotic.
The guys playing on this track were geniuses. They were the musicians who were sometimes known as MFSB. Guys like drummer Earl Young, guitarist Norman Harris (a childhood friend of Barbara's), and bassist Norman Baker, to mention a very few of the collective group of players who were mainstays at Philadelphia's Sigma Sound studios. They were basically to the 70s what motown was to the 60s for crossover soul and dance music.
I love Barbara Mason's music... cuz for one it actually is music. Her sound is so endearin and soothes the mind. Miss the old school... and I wasn't even around to experience it.
My mother and sister LOVED Barbara Mason, I always liked this song, but there was another song, "You can be with the one you don't love, and the one you love you can't be with at all" Now that was the shit off of that album@ you know this!LOL
I remember hearing this song when it was released. I was all of 9 years old. Being a music fanatic at such an early age I knew who it was just as soon as the singing began. She released and album in 1970 that didn't do as well as expected but contained some great ballads. Some of them were "Gene," "Just A little Lovin," "Oh Me Oh My," and she did a great mid-tempo version of "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head". If anyone can tell me where I can find this music, please let me know?
