Here's a little diatribe on why Adrians Borlands vocal melodies are so captivating. On this song I am always surprised at how sort of dull the first line of "who the hell makes those missiles" is sung, but all of a sudden the band and his voice kicks your ass with the second repeat of that phrase. That ability to suddenly change the energy, and surprise your ears is what makes this band so great. They arrived fully formed it seems, with full mastery of dynamics, and courage too.
Thanks ... Single had pride of place in my collection in the early 80's ... seems like only yesterday ... maybe because the threat of widespread nuclear destruction still looms heavy on the horizon. Tune!
