  • Cliff Gallup was one of the greatest if not the greatest rockabilly guitarists of all time. I think one of his greatest solos is on B-I-Bickey Bi,Bo- Bo-Go. I think it sucks that he wasn't in Rolling Stones greatest guitar players issue. They did have Link Wray in the issue though which was cool. Thanks for posting this.

  • incroyable morçeau;cliff Gallup y est fabuleux;2 solos, bien lancés par deux cris sublissimes de G.V. premier enregistrement de gv le 4 mai 56

  • one of "the great records of all time

here,s to all those who took part in the recording of this and other

    gene vincent classics.

  • Ya Cant Beat This Stuff !!

  • i was given a music challenge the other evening, and was played a song (not this one) and they said who sings this record, and because of the vocals, i would have said cliff richard, and that is what i said, but now i know differently because of the caption 2 below. music works in mysterious ways xx

  • HEY KIDS! Try turnin, off the fuzz and all the other pedals for a minute, try some heavy gauge strings, learn somethin' about a back beat, and some 6th, 7th, and 9th chords. See if any real soul or feel creeps in to your playing, It might open up some possibilities you hadn't thought about before. If not, go back to what you were dion' before, but at least you tried. Understand where it came from, and move ahead with more conviction.

  • cliff gallup....he da" man!!!

  • Gene and Cliff were a musical combination made in Rock'n'Roll heaven. I also loved the sound of Paul Burlison with Johnny Burnette, Scotty with Elvis (as well as James Burton who's work with Dale Hawkins, Ricky Nelson and many others is incredible. Oh how I wish there was video footage of Cliff Gallup with Gene Vincent from 1956. Thanks for posting this song.

  • i love this song

  • Cliff was a dream Guitar Player I don't think anyone will ever be like him He played on 34 cuts and all these years later guitarists are still discovering him Thanks Cliff

  • vive les fifties ca c'est de la music go cat's go

  • GENE VINCENT , THE GOD OF MUSIC .

  • Gene was a the real deal, Elvis was a mama's boy.

  • @Diogenes1360: Elvis wasn't my cup of tea but respect Scotty Moore, he was badass.

  • @PooPoo2U True.

  • I have to agree that Cliff was a true innovator and played some monster rockabilly riffs. He was definitely one of the best. He had a Guitar Player interview in the early Eighties; but, we lost him soon after. Gene was all grades of awesome. I'm right sure Elvis saw Gene perform (probably with his leg brace) just before he did his "wobbly knee dance" onstage and noticed the crowd reaction to it.

  • Cliff Gallup....The Man

  • What a combination Gene and Cliff fantastic!

  • yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bunch of Norfolk, Virginia hoodlums....and I love 'em!

  • xoxo thankyou xoxox

  • just a little aside comment we have the advantage of looking back and seeing what others were playing guys like cliff had only their instincts and talent and oh my cliff had talent ask jeff beck about cliff gallup and gene vincent they gave us all a path to travel rock and roll

  • I agree misslillyblue. You got it right and Jeff is a cool cat. What a great guitar player he is.

  • aww thankyou FyreTiger xoxoxo

  • #79 greatest guitarist of all time

  • That's all... JUMP !

  • xoxoxoxoxo many people have tried to copy Mr Gallup and to my knowledge none have succeded, but some are near..but not quite there.... his rifts are the best in my opinion..but thats only mine...and thankyou for all your comments weather you like or dislike.. me.. i love mr gallup!! xoxoxoox

  • @misslillyblue Jeff Beck gets really close. REALLY close.

  • @misslillyblue jeff beck plays like Cliff..not as good obviously but pretty damn close!

  • steve vi, joe sartini, and that swedish guy who's name cant be pronounced all need to go jump in a lake. cliff gallop is what a great guitarist sounds like. you dont need 10,000 notes and endless scale runs to sound great. go cliff!!!

  • It took me about 40 years to find out who Cliff Callup was! Best popguitarist ever!

  • LOL! XOX

  • wow, I must say. This is just one of the overall coolest tunes I'd ever heard. This thing is so hot it just smokes. 56 to boot. Are you shitting me? Thanks man this is just phenom.

  • Cliff Gallup was really the most underrated guitarist in music history, there is so few information about his life and influence on the internet :( BTW The song blows today's radios balls off!

  • @BluesYourAss agreed

  • Cliff and the rest of the Blues Caps rocked it ! Maybe the best band for sure at that time.

  • thank you british nobleman at least there is someone else out there with a decent sense of whats right. In fact it is a fact and not just an opinion.Keep on rockin.

  • great stuff!!

  • This is real PURE guitar playing in the tradition of Charlie Christian, Merle Travis, Junior Barnard, Les Paul etc These modern kids don't even know their guitar history, when it's all there for FREE on youtube.Do some Research!!!!!

  • proper guitar playing never mind rock guitar solos they have no soul just alot of noise. How anyone can relate to that shite beggars belief.Cliff and his like made guitars sound as theyshould.Lots of screechin notes and distortion only goes to show what shite players those so called rock players really are try to get them to play some proper rock an roll guitar licks if they can. Oh dear i bet lots of dick heads tell me im totally wrong now, ah well reply if you must .

  • @66drummerman as someone who plays allsorts of styles with all sorts of sounds I have to say you are ABSOLUTELY correct. The time spent learning to play, say a Rockabilly song in the way Brian Setzer plays against one of Yngwie Malmsteens 300MPH Shreds is not only far greater, but is time better spent as it will make you a better player. Getting it right with a clean sound is far more difficult than thrashing out noise with a cranked amp and effects pedal...and far more effective in my book.

  • siis aivan saatana uskomaton biisi!! this is unbelievable ! Stray Cats can do this almost as good as this...

  • this is BE BOP man and Gene was THE BEST........... KOOL

  • nubapowner5000,i swear you just repeated what i wrote.oh well!

  • no I admit I dont understand and dont want to...i'm not open to learning. I have tightly defined bounderies of what sounds good to me. steve vi and that swedish guy whos name I cant pronounce have noting to show me I need to know about. rockabilly players, classic rock I-cons are all I need. lots of notes do not a good guitarist make with me. keep it simple. scale runners go elsewhere.

  • Cliff Gallup, what can you say that hasn't been said about this man, those beautiful fluid solos that just pour out of his guitar. Arf

  • my mom was going to kill herself when she found this she loves this kind if songs

  • Thanks !

Gene Vincent international fan club "lonely street"

  • Please don't laugh about George Harrison , that's not funny , will you ?

  • how can 6 ppl not like this WTF!

  • is this great or what!? cliff gallup kicks guitar shredders asses!

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 You can hear why the guitar greats all cite Cliff as a MAJOR influence. I know my favourite..Jeff Beck loves Cliff.

  • @TNO73 joe sartini and the rest of those goofs cant produce anything that sounds this good. so what you can play 10,000 notes. their all discordant. this is musical!

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 sartini is a very melodic player. Maybe you're just not understanding what you're hearing.

  • Gene Vincent was way ahead of his time.

  • Why is it that this was unacceptable in 1956 but Charlie Daniel's "the Devil Went Down to Georgia," which is saying basically the same thing (someone beating the devil at something) was considered OK in the 1970s.

  • @RaananVolesPianist I have no idea why this was unacceptable in the 50s, I guess because it was knew and in the 70s rock was already bigger and when the Devil Went Down to Georgia came out, it was not a completely new Idea. Also you probably know, but this is song is one of the influences for the Devil went down to georgia

  • Well, goin' pretty fast, looked behind A-hear come the the devil doin' ninety-nine, I said Move, hot-rod, move man! Move, hot-rod, move man! Move hot-rod, move me on down the the line, oh yeah! Well I've led an evil life, so they say But I'll hide from the devil on judgement day, I said Move, hot-rod, move man! Move, hot-rod, move man! Move hot-rod, move me on down the the line.
  • cliff gallop, the best rock n roll guitarist ever...he was taken from a jazz band by vincent..cliff is a jazz guitarist,he uses 7ths and 9ths a lot in his playing..thats why its so melodic..he didnt want stardom...he was older than the other lads and had a family..he also uses 4 finger plecks,,three finger one thumb,,all metal..jeff beck has these now..he has not long been put into the r n r hall of fame...no body can touch this guy,,he made two albums with gene..the first two..the king..rip....

  • джин винсент ,лучше,чем Элвис !

  • Cliff Gallup is so freakin awesome! Kicks the crap out of todays so-called "shredders" IMHO!

  • cliff gallup rules!!!!

  • What are you gyus talking here about George Harrison? Just interested, love him as well

  • Was Cliff a big guy? In these photos he always looks like a giant

  • @dwt3 Try reach someone that knew him personally and they might tell you. :-) A giant as a gtr player anyway.

  • this is catchy

  • Thanks for highlighting my favorite R&R guitarist evar! CG #1!! An un-sung master of the Duo Jet!!

  • If Lucifer came to pay us a visit.....Gene would be his guy.

  • First time hearin' Gene's original version. Gene woulda liked the Stray Cats version too

  • This is rock and roll. The voice is unmistakable. Gene was a king. His legasy is assured. He had so much more to give.

  • true rockabilly at its best ....

  • Good stuff.

  • Harrison boring hippy non rocker

  • The 17th of April is the 50th anniversary of Genes best friend Eddie Cochrans death remember and play their music forever and a day.

  • The guitar solo is just out of this world.

  • I just downloaded this mp3 at mp3iiiiify. Check that site out - its sick. Google mp3iiiiify

  • right on about cliff gallup...even jeff beck said he'd like to play with him/meet him even cliff told him to f/ off. great stuff!

  • Every Cliffs solo is a song by itself

  • ALLLL DAYYY!!

  • DUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!!!!!!!

  • Cliff Gallup plays a Black Duo Jet-56

  • george harrison?

    hahahahahahahaha!

    yer outta yer mind dude.

    ALL of the english guitarplayers

    were heavily influenced by

    rockabilly guitar slingers,

as well as ALL the bluesman.

  • this is like listening to george, he was so heavily influenced by rockabilly

  • @n136ha

    Harrison ?

  • @n136ha I agree it sounds like alot of georges early solos.

  • @JONFATSARNOTT

That's because Gene was Georges main musical influence. Pre Beatles (Silver Beatles) was Genes backing group in the UK. Gene wanted them to be his permanent backing group, but the beatles wanted to go alone.

  • @motorvating no shit? that is really interesting. Thanks for sharing that with me! I've never heard that of read that any where.

  • @gibsongold1970-ignorant. blues guitar came before hillbilly and rag guitar.

  • Comment removed

  • @gibsongold1970 Nah man, rockabilly was influenced by blues.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheStrainers Yeah but blues wasn't influenced by rockabilly. Blues was way before that

  • @nubapowner5000 Really? I thought the egg was before the chicken

  • @TheStrainers Blues was developed by African Americans in New Orleans.

  • @nubapowner5000 thanks for telling me something I've known for 40 years

  • @TheStrainers LOL! XOX

  • @TheStrainers Well obviously pre-this, cunt.

  • @gibsongold1970 i agree totally. you are 1,ooo% correct. all the mop top lady bugs and brits ever did was get american music and make it more generic so it would be more commercial; easily digestible for mass consumption! thanks for your comment.

  • @gibsongold1970 you are right there george harrison loved gene vincent !

  • es mismo la corrida del diablo, viva el rocanrol

  • Cliff Gallup was the best rock guitarist until George Harrison.

  • Excellente musique sur laquelle une chorégraphe de chez nous, Séverine Fillion, a fait une chorégraphie de line dance sympa : "Twist with the devil".

A tester dans toutes les soirées !

  • Cliff Gallup played a Gretsch Duo Jet with flat wound strings, Johnny Meeks played a Strat and Russell Wilford, who appeared briefly with the band in The Girl Can't Help It played a Telecaster.

  • Wasnt there a guy named Howard Reed with a blond strat ?

  • You're dead right. Only for a short time as far as I know. Impossible to follow Cliff Gallup though

  • black....and yes

  • @john4951

Howard Allen Reed played a custom ordered black finished 1955 Strat which his mother Naomi sold after Howard died at the young age of 41 in 1981.

  • don't forget Billy Zoom!!!!!!

  • @doubleotwentyone willaford didn't play telecaster but fender esquire with just one pick up on the bridge.

  • Cliff Gallup was arguably (along with Danny Cedrone) the best rock and roll guitar player. Shame his stay with the Blue Caps was so short.

  • Rock & Roll Par Excellence.

  • cliff deffo playing a gretsch dou jet.this track is the DOGS BOLLOCKS

  • who cares wot cliffs playin just listen quality

  • i thought cliff played a tele, johnny meeks i believe played a strat

  • I think I'm rightin saying that Cliff Gallup played a Gretsch, possibly a duo jet.

  • Yes,, you¨re right Be Bob a Lula is recorded with a Gretsch Duo Jet

  • Anyone else reckon this track sounds like Cliff's playing a telecaster?

  • Now this is rock'n'roll. Gene Vincent RIP.

  • How you voted is your personal decision-

    this is a fabulous song!

  • great posting- well done- i especially liked the way u synced the images to the song- nice piece of editing. - job well done

  • sweet gene vincent

  • Comment on the music. Who cares who wrote it? And there sure as hell is no room here for another loser bellyaching about Obama. He won--get over it. Ciff Gallup rules!

  • So did you decide to be a comedian before they removed your brain or after?

  • Oh so you're self loathing?

  • gene vincent say mama

  • Long live Gene Vincent the Blue Beret!!

  • Does anyone know where I can get any printed posters of Gene Vincent and The Blue Caps, especially something like the image at the 21~25 second point of this video clip???

  • godallmighty man!!i love jean vincent and the blue caps!!!!!

  • Excellent composite with excellent song! Gene's song sounds like it was born in the mid-1950s culture and just recorded in the 1950s like some of his contemporaries.

It's no wonder Nashville session men were impressed with Cliff Gallup's playing.

  • FUCKIN'HELL! the BOSS!

  • This is some pretty serious stuff right here!

  • Thanks for this Track, Kicks Serious Ass! Great!

  • Gene rocks and Cliff is the Man

  • toute la puissance d'un dieu du rock n'roll

  • Cliff gallup put so many nuances in this song like using the bigsby throuhgout the whole entire melody. Most guys I've seen play this song don't seem to notice, which is why they never sound like Cliff Gallup.

  • gene vincent rocks the blue caps roll not only an album name but also true

gene vincent rip once a rocker always a rocker go cat go

  • This sounds very much like the Roy Orbison c.d. I bought sometime ago from the Sunday market. I really like the echoey vocals that are created. I really like the guitar at 0:50/0:51 seconds for 5 seconds of that guitar riff bit. Its snazzy and cool.

  • Cliff Gallup and Grady Martin are the reasons I chose to play guitar for a living - and earn very little !

  • Cliff Gallup became the most forgot guitar played in Rock'n'Roll history. Although he died in 1988, he will stay in our hearts as the biggest. Race With The Devil shows you how great he was, only compared by Scotty Moore on Too Much and Frannie Beache on Birth Of The Boogie. But Cliff was highest than anybody

  • Check Eddie Cochran on "Eddies Blues" and you might think it over one more time. Add Eddie.

  • For sure, bellgardens53, I agree with you. I just talked about the 3 greatest rock'n'roll solos in my estimation. I have the whole complete Eddie Cochran discography and I agree with you. For sure you'd know all his recordings, but I'd like to make you hear again Eddie's "FOURTH MAN THEME", a re-make of Orson Welles's film music. Greetings from Spain

  • Yes, "Fourth Man Theme" is a nice one Not really Rockn'Roll but nice indeed.

  • I just meant about how great was Eddie playin' his Gretsch

  • 100% correct! Innovative greatness long before Clapton, Beck, Page or Van Halen; Great long after them as wall.

  • Jeff Beck gave a rendition to Cliff Gallup playin' note-by-note every song he did with the Blue-Caps

  • one of the best gene tracks

  • Cliff was way better than Scotty Moore!

  • Why are people mentioning Fabian? Nothing against this artist, but certainly nowhere near the league of Gene Vincent and his Blue Caps.

As for Jeff Beck's attempt, not bad at all, very good guitarist, but no thanks, NO ONE can reach the skills and genius of the one and only Cliff Gallup...Also he could have hired a real rock and roll singer for that CD...Gene was simply one of a kind...

  • is this performed by charlie sexton?

  • Wasn't Grady Martin involved with this group?

  • FYI: Monster4josh et al. Blue Caps #1 had Cliff Gallup at lead gtr ( April-Sept '56. Caps #2 still had Gallup as lead gtr ( Sept to Nov '56 ). Caps #3 had Johnny Meeks at lead gtr ( March-Dec '57 ) Caps #4 still had Johnny Meeks at lead gtr ( Jan -April '58 ) Caps #5 had Howard Reed ast lead gtr. Fontana was drummer in that period ( May-July '58 ). Caps #6 had Johnny Meeks back at lead gtr ( mid-Sept-mid-Oct '58 ) Grady Martin did not play in any Blue Caps version. Those that played bass was

  • cont...Jack Neal (Caps #1,2). Bobby Lee Jones (Caps #3), Bobby Lee Jones (Caps #4), Grady Owen (Caps#5, 6). Gallup played with Gene for six months but during that time become a legend. Gallup used to play a Gibson Les Paul Duo-Jet pancake model with Bigsby tremelo. On recording dates he used a leather bound Standell amp.

  • A Duo-Jet is a GRETSCH. Not a Gibson.

  • sly1mo if you are sure of that. As I'm not a gtr buff I got the info from some sources and it show none is perfect. Tnx

  • @sly1mo I can only imagine how Cliff Gallup would have sounded playing a '54 or '55 Les Paul with a Bigsby on it through that Fender Tweed-with-echo (and he made his own echo devices off old tape recorder parts) rig he fashioned so effectively. Perhaps "extraterrestrial" might be the way to describe how he'd have sounded on that . . . not that he wasn't in that neighbourhood already . . .

  • Apparently I've been misinformed then. Thanks for

  • I have always wondered where/how/why Vincent picked up this strange title "Race With the Devil" and lyrics too. Why does he have to race with the devil? BTW who wrote it, again. Don't get me wrong as I'm facinated by "Race With the Devil"

  • Gene wrote it along with Tex Davis

  • Yes I know that he co wrote it with 'Sheriff'' Davis but why is Gene racing with the Devil and why? Or maybe one shouldn't ask such questions but I do.

  • Definitely one of the top five greatest rockabilly songs ever.

  • This ain't rockabilly, it's ROCK N ROLL, baby doll!

  • Love Gene Vincent. This sound never gets old or goes out of style. Brings back memories. Thanks misslillyblue. - Paula

  • Sweet Gene Vincent

  • Go Cat Go !!!"

  • Cliff Gallup! just ask Jeff Beck oh yeah !!!

  • yes top draw

  • Coolest outfit ever.

  • Cliff Gallup the genius who started the axe men thing but none better ??? agree or disagree

  • Agree that there was nobody that could outplay Gallup back in the era, although Scotty Moore was pretty close IMO. Cliff died young - in his early 40's, while I believe Scotty is still somewhat active today...Both are considered early rock guitar legends.
