way cool...it sorta can do compiz when the login screen goes away...move some winderz so we can see beryl or compiz...hold down the windows key if it has one and scroll that mouse...sabayon 4 everyone!
I Love Appple Computers. And Steve Jobs is very talented because he gave himself to Apple and even when he was hired he tried to make computers (personal computing) better and better and i believe that if there wasn't Steve Jobs computers wont be like that cause as he said ''I had typography leesons and he ad this beatifull typography into Macintosh and since Windows copy the Mac computers today won't be like that''
I use a mac laptop myself but they are over priced. And now that they run on Intel CPUs.... I am just building me an IBM laptop (the ultrathin one) running Fedora RedHat Linux. Except for the bouncy icons its even better, especially for MP3s. I wish the aqua interface was available for standard x-windows!!
Anyway, its true that Microsoft copied Windows from Apple's MacIntosh desktop - but Apple stole that also, so they shouldn't be saying too much. Didn't know that? Read up on Steve Jobs' visit to Xerox PARC lab at the time. They had a personal computer there with a mouse and a graphical desktop. And as soon as Steve Job and his team came back from the tour back to Cupertino he had them drop *everything* and started doing Macintosh with the same graphical desktop.
LOL If that is not stealing ideas, then I don't know what stealing is. Microsoft is only super-lame to have to steal it, too - and then doing it soooo terribly: their first Windows version crapped out so badly, and even today, they can't get XP or Vista right - and that even though they are so big and have a gazillion bucks to get it right.
Like my friend Josh's Ex says, it's right they finally are going down. In 2 years or so everyone will know, he is just always ahead of everyone else.
But then (at least that is what he is saying - my friend's ex that is) Microsoft is also just getting replaced by the kind of Google's and such - and they are not much different from the Evil Empire, even though they put up this "we play nice" front. But again, thats him saying that; I don't get into the kind of circles he is in, so what do I know. but he's real smart and I think he could be right.
Not quite on the PARC bit. They were already working on the Lisa OS GUI when they checked PARC. Check the old documentation - it wasn't quite at the familiar Mac interface, but it was getting there.
Faster than Vista.

that took forever!!! even back then computers booted faster
bobjoe212x 2 years ago
Because the other systems fit on a disk in 88. This thing was much more complex (like a modern OS of today).
And the machine had only a simple 68030 CPU.
wurstwasser85 2 years ago
exactly... a modern OS... which is what Mac OS X is based on ! :D
aaroninclub 2 years ago
maybe becoz it was a much superior OS to both the Mac OS and crummy windows 2.0

Wow - almost five minutes to get to the login screen.
I guess the hardware still hadn't quite caught up to the software yet.
Still - very cool.
