@gkwas, Excellent explanation you are the first person that has actually made a accurate fact about this subject. a Veyron has long gears for topspeed (shitty takeoff), a peugeot Rally car has short gears for acceleration (but who needs speed offroad?).  an M3 has short 1,2,3 and then 4 and 5 is a midrange, and 6 is topend. US spec and German spec are two different cars. I speak of german specs the REAL "M" 321hp & 362 ft./lbs BONESTOCK..

Horsepower is just a combined rating of torque and RPM.. They are not magical seperate ways of powering a car. Torque is the only thing getting any car anywhere and keeping it there. Well, unless you strap a jet onto it and go by thrust.

you are talking about torque on engine ignoring the gearbox. if you have low power and big torque you get it within short range of revs. than you have "long" gearbox which multiplicates revs but reduces torque. after all on wheels you don't get higher value of torque. always when you have 400 bhp it accelerates much better than 300bhp.

The sound comes from a combination of individual throttle bodies, high compression, headers and the straight pipes. Best thing to do is just swap the engine with the M3 engine.

Hey Labmw i just purchased a e46 m3 and want to do some upgradess to it. i want to keep it naturally aspirated but i want to have straight pipes and new headers. now is their a system on the market that i could pick up and bolt on or do i have to do some diy work to make it sound as good as yours. Also could you rccomend a good set of headers.

BTW I have been an M enthusiast for life and this M3 is on of the MOST WICKED ONES OUT THEIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That sound of a straight six is EPIC!!!!!!
