Thomas wasn't calling Jesus God. What Thomas said is the modern day equivalent of saying "Oh my God." If I saw Jesus I would say "Oh my God" too, doesn't mean I am calling him God.

Remember that using the lord's name in vain is one of the big 10, and would not have been common back then, especially in the presence of a rabbi.(especially one who just came back from the dead)
So sorry nobody explained it to you. Doubting Thomas is from a scene in the Bible. Read it about it in John chapter 20:24-30. It's about the exhilaration that comes when a person gets to know Jesus and realizes He's the legit God, but then when it comes time to Him wanting to make changes in your life, you want out. It's this middle place - knowing you've seen the truth, but then being too cowardly to stick to it - that is the hardest place to be.
I've never been much of a doubting Thomas, but nothing breaks like a broken promise.
