@jerkid87 dont dye your hair black!! to than dye it red...it wont show. color cant lift color....you'll need to strip your hair and than dye it red. black is the worst color to dye over. you will always need to strip that black dye off first regradless of what color you pick. hope that helped

@PurdyWolf , I started dying my hair around your age I might have been younger but as long as you take care of your hair really good then go for it. If your hair is damaged repair it before dying it. As for the perm wait at least a few years before doing that cause it will damage your hair some but dying and the perm will ruin your hair if you do it at once. I have the same problem as you a straighten my hair every single day but i used heat protection and i highly recommned you doing that

@BeachSmilesx3 Box dye is a diluted form of professional dye and the developer with the box dye is between level 5 - 20, sometimes 25 but it will never be 30 or higher. All the water in the solution makes it damaging to a lot of people's hair if they dont use the right products. Professional color is the full punch of color and because its waterless, it'll last longer BUT if a n00b got a hold of it and didn't follow the instructions you could permanently damage your hair.

@PurdyWolf to nair and your hair will pretty much fall out. i used a straightener a few months after dying my hair and it fried it to shit! dont use the straightener it ddoesnt even work. its a hell of alot less damaing to just straighten your hair!

@PurdyWolf Hi, I'm a hairstylist...your hair needs to recover from the relaxer at least for a month and the only way you could color your hair is if you go darker, not lighter. I would advice to let your natural hair grow, do a couple of keratin treatments and then go to a salon and do a consultation with a hairstylist....TRUST ME, they wont do anything that would damage your hair, remember our customers are our very best business card :)

@PurdyWolf Hey, When i got into 7th grade i first dyed my hair with blonde highlights in natural dark brown. then i put red and school did not like it. dyed it black about two times then bleached the bottom of hair for two tone, then dyed it blue black then bleached it again to get red hair then bleached my bangs and it was completly fryed since i had to keep changing it for the school. I got it cut above my ears. Quit Straighting your hair as well only rarely. your hair will benifit.

I used the same color (Ion Color Brilliance in Medium Intense Red Blonde) however i used #30 developer and got like a little mermaid red which i loved, but now im tempted to use a #10 to get that same color it looks nice ;)

I've heard some myths that you have to have hair with no color in it for turning out red, otherwise you have to bleach it, which i don't want to. i only used loreal casting, the non permanent one, to intensify my color. does that count?

@PurdyWolf that sounds like a bad idea to do both. your hair is so young and it might damage it so badly. you should talk to your hair stylist and see what he/she says.

oh my gosh, my hair comes out like the same exact color when i use L'oreal Color Gems from Sally's in 'dark red'. i just wish it didn't wash out so quickly.
Ok, so do you mix all of the ion color brilliance and clairol compliments together with all of the ion developer? Or is it specific measurements of each one? I want to start dying my own hair rather than going to a salon, but I'm just unsure of how to do it.
i love your hair color ! i've been experimenting for months trying to get it to that color but failed. i've used like 4 different levels in the ion color brilliance (including the one you used) but it didn't last that long. i should try clairol compliments this time though ! also, did you hear about something called 'protein filler'? apparently it's supposed to work the same as clairol compliments but i'm not sure. what do you recommend? and does the l'oreal colorist s&c make a difference?
personally I use box color for when im going darker and when im gong red i use koleston perfect 8.43 with 30 vol as base colour and mix the 8.43 mixed with 40 vol for the highlights to have slightly lighter pieces
So...The one your using isn't a box color? But it's in a box? How confusing. Can someone please explain how the heck I'm supposed to know what's box and what's not?
@Jordan0Alexis she didn't explain it good. the box dyes usually have the color and developer in it. and maybe even the little conditioning packet. those only have the color in them
So wish we could shop like that here, I have had to order colours from hong kong because I can't get the shade I want in the shops, even the hair dressers where I live won't do purple dyes!! Have just had a disaster with my attempt at bleaching and have an inch of white and the rest is orange lol, gonna try and dye it pink tomorrow just hope I don't go green :0)

I used to go to Sally's to get the supplies when I colored my hair blonde, so it shouldn't be so hard to get the stuff for my red. I do normally pay the salon to color mine, but man, that gets crazy expensive. Especially when I know I could do it myself!
Its not always bad leeka lisa if you are goin lighter say blonde go to salon as box colors tend to have an orange ting. if going darker or red then you should be ok with box color if you have previously colored hair it prob will not turn out same as on the box. i have used box colr to go darker and it works fine you can get the pro products at sallys
A box color can be bad with time because of the 20 volume developer. Ammonia is not healthy over time, it damages the hair and eventually makes it brittle. Use a 20 developer for when you are touching up and a 10 for the ends or my preference a demi color. Hope I could help.
I love the ion color brilliance. I use blue black. I agree about the lush shampoo bars. They are excellent. Also, for those of you that don't like the idea of not washing your hair everyday, you can use dry shampoo spray so it doesn't look as greasy. Hair one is also a great conditioner and they have one for color treated hair.

yeah....box color is satan for hair. I've also been told that cheap shampoos will be just as damaging over long periods of time. Pantene for example...TERRIBLE for your hair. Strips the hair shaft like you wouldn't believe. Suave...horrible. Stay away from cheap shampoo! (even some expensive shampoos aren't worth the money) Plus, everyone's hair is different. So what's good for me, might not be good for someone else. You're hair however, looks really healthy and beautiful! Love the new red ;-)
a good, moderately priced shampoo that is all natural, smells amazing, has no sulfates, is from Lush.. try out the shampoo bars! 10 bucks for 80 washes

if you use a higher volume developer it will be brighter. . . the lower the volume is usually for darker colors. to deposite

@PurdyWolf if yu do get ah perm yu cant dye it the same daii yu got the perm too much chemicals at one tyme is not good! wait two weeks i say perm it first wait then dye it =)

I used the same color (Ion Color Brilliance in Medium Intense Red Blonde) however i used #30 developer and got like a little mermaid red which i loved, but now im tempted to use a #10 to get that same color it looks nice ;)

my hair is a really dark brown naturally .. do i have to bleach it to turn out red?
I've heard some myths that you have to have hair with no color in it for turning out red, otherwise you have to bleach it, which i don't want to. i only used loreal casting, the non permanent one, to intensify my color. does that count?
or it's just a myth and i can go ahead buy a red color and just put in my head?

@PurdyWolf that sounds like a bad idea to do both. your hair is so young and it might damage it so badly. you should talk to your hair stylist and see what he/she says.

if i have light blonde hair and i mix it with the medium intense red blonde dye, will it come out similar to yours, or more likely to be pink/bright red? i'm kinda scared by what some people have been saying. ):

@mymilkisyoursick if your hair is light, it will most likely come out lighter than mine. you'll have to consult someone who does hair on achieving darker hair.

I went to Sallys today and store #1 was sold out of the red color intensifier and was told that it was discontinued and advised me to pick up its "replacement" , it was also in a red package, but it just stated "warm", not red as the color...anyway, went to store #2 and luckily they had one box left of the red color intensifier. The girl that rang me up said it was the same, but the two other sales associates argued it wasn't. Are you sold out at your Sallys? Any other intensifiers you rec?

Ok, so do you mix all of the ion color brilliance and clairol compliments together with all of the ion developer? Or is it specific measurements of each one? I want to start dying my own hair rather than going to a salon, but I'm just unsure of how to do it.

i love your hair color ! i've been experimenting for months trying to get it to that color but failed. i've used like 4 different levels in the ion color brilliance (including the one you used) but it didn't last that long. i should try clairol compliments this time though ! also, did you hear about something called 'protein filler'? apparently it's supposed to work the same as clairol compliments but i'm not sure. what do you recommend? and does the l'oreal colorist s&c make a difference?

the l'oreal shampoo & conditioner does help, but using it once a week is probably a good idea because it dries out your hair

personally I use box color for when im going darker and when im gong red i use koleston perfect 8.43 with 30 vol as base colour and mix the 8.43 mixed with 40 vol for the highlights to have slightly lighter pieces

Box color is usually something you can find at a grocery store, target, etc.

So wish we could shop like that here, I have had to order colours from hong kong because I can't get the shade I want in the shops, even the hair dressers where I live won't do purple dyes!! Have just had a disaster with my attempt at bleaching and have an inch of white and the rest is orange lol, gonna try and dye it pink tomorrow just hope I don't go green :0)

I used to go to Sally's to get the supplies when I colored my hair blonde, so it shouldn't be so hard to get the stuff for my red. I do normally pay the salon to color mine, but man, that gets crazy expensive. Especially when I know I could do it myself!

Its not always bad leeka lisa if you are goin lighter say blonde go to salon as box colors tend to have an orange ting. if going darker or red then you should be ok with box color if you have previously colored hair it prob will not turn out same as on the box. i have used box colr to go darker and it works fine you can get the pro products at sallys

A box color can be bad with time because of the 20 volume developer. Ammonia is not healthy over time, it damages the hair and eventually makes it brittle. Use a 20 developer for when you are touching up and a 10 for the ends or my preference a demi color. Hope I could help.

I love the ion color brilliance. I use blue black. I agree about the lush shampoo bars. They are excellent. Also, for those of you that don't like the idea of not washing your hair everyday, you can use dry shampoo spray so it doesn't look as greasy. Hair one is also a great conditioner and they have one for color treated hair.

yeah....box color is satan for hair. I've also been told that cheap shampoos will be just as damaging over long periods of time. Pantene for example...TERRIBLE for your hair. Strips the hair shaft like you wouldn't believe. Suave...horrible. Stay away from cheap shampoo! (even some expensive shampoos aren't worth the money) Plus, everyone's hair is different. So what's good for me, might not be good for someone else. You're hair however, looks really healthy and beautiful! Love the new red ;-)

a good, moderately priced shampoo that is all natural, smells amazing, has no sulfates, is from Lush.. try out the shampoo bars! 10 bucks for 80 washes
