History has shown that it always is.... 11.04 seemed decent... but I only tested it for a day.... Then again... what distro isn't buggy? Most average users probably wouldn't notice in Kubuntu.... it goes alright
@Linux4UnMe I went to download the same sta drivers through the additional drivers, "Like Abuntu and it didn't work, the Ubuntu 1 did though. I also tried downloading another software, and that either didn't work. My wireless is is a pci chip
linksys wmp300N/ 802.11 and has an antennae thing. It not badly put in btw, just incase, because I use diferent partitions and they have 4 bars.
ok so your saying that wifi works on ubuntu (gnome) but not kubuntu (kde) ???
and that the "additional hardware" tool works on ubuntu but not kubuntu? If so, I have experienced that before in kubuntu aswell. It's buggy. Do me a favour, Register on my website/forum and post your question and im sure we can solve it for you.
Kubuntu is really buggy I face a lot of problems using it Ubuntu (GNome) is nice but Kubuntu's editor Kate is really good for programmer's point of view
I agree, Kubuntu has always been buggy. This is because their resources are very limited, they package Kde badly, and the devs seem to just be a bunch of packagers instead of actual "developers"
I'de steer clear from Kubuntu if you want a Kde Distro. Go for PclinuxOs
Kubuntu is really buggy I face a lot of problems using it Ubuntu (GNome) is nice but Kubuntu's editor Kate is really good for programmer's point of view
Thats terrible man who did the explanation…. he really didn’t know what he was doing… i got nervous… its easier install the kubuntu and try it by my self than watch this video… SUCKS ASS HOLE NARRATOR!!
@Linux4UnMe Do you recommended Gnome or KDE. I'm a Windows user, but I like to play around a bit in Linux from time to time (Im not saying im switching to linux, so dont tell me to use Linux mint, I already know thats good, but I'm asking about desktop environments). Thank you.
Ubuntu uses the GNOME Desktop environment and Kubuntu uses the KDE Desktop environment.
Ubuntu is developed by Canonical and a paid team of developers, Kubuntu is maintained by a small volunteer group of developers. They just look different.... under the hood they are the same
Well, Kubuntu is just nothing more than Ubuntu with KDE.. so Ye, most improvement are also seen in the regular Ubuntu. :P still it's pretty nice and you can always download a new theme and stuff (who keeps thedefault theme from any Linux distro anyway?)
@Linux4UnMe thx for all the replies, and im grateful for ur help. ubunto sounds awesome to me, and mint is even more, as I read its ubuntu but with some tweaks, and some extra mint software, and online support ad stuff, I think ill chose that first, tho I dont give up on ubuntu as I heard only great stuff about it, as its the best, it starts up in a few seconds etc, but first Ill try linux Mint, it looks amazing to mee. Please tell my why should I try openSuse?
Which one should I chose and why? I never used linux before, I have no idea abut it, totally null. All my life I was a windows owner, but I want to try one of these out. Which one has the best options, more features etc. I doesnt matter if it needs coding knowledge etc, which one is the most complex...and cool :P
PLease help, I have limited badwidth so I cant try them all
are you running from a live cd there? I'm just trying out Linux Mint KDE as my first KDE distro, only from the live CD so far and I have the same lag as you on opening some folders and the menu, was wondering if it was a common KDE thing. Trying it out before a proper install it is nowhere near as snappy and responsive as gnome versions of ubuntu or mint which is a concern for me
can't remember now... I think this was installed on my hard drive.
The Live CD will always be slow compared to an installation. It will be snappy when installed. Not as much as Gnome though, but it depends on your hardware
@Linux4UnMe dammit I come back to your reply and the views are now 6,731 ..I see why you would not notice you weren't watching your own video 7 hours ago when it was haha.. oh well =) still a quite funny timing for me to be like WTF lol 6666 its mainly a religion joke =)
donno install or not, i'm sick of ubuntu gnome but it seems to me that kde would be heavy on my pc (P4 3.0GHz, 2G RAM and Nvidia geforce 9400) what u say?
and KDE works much faster than GNOME on it... in fact KDE works just in a standard way (except you start applications which need all Memory. KDE itself uses about 70-90mb on me)
@yooyoomine I second you on the being sick of gnome, I want to get more people into using linux and are you really going to pry people away from Windows 7 with Ubuntu? It's functional but not really enjoyable to use, I mean the enjoyment you get from snazzy animated window managers which make something look new. You tried out any KDE distros yet? they all look the same to me, going with either Mint or Kubuntu
@AnarchistsAnnonymous find it hard to use kde software, it is complicated, i have it on toshiba satellite a135 with dual-core 1.6ghz and gig ram and it runs ok but the built in firewall and torrent clients never seem to work ok... frustrated linux user
Well... in terms of Kde implementation.... OpenSuse Hands down.... Mandriva always did a good Kde too... but that project looks like it's dying... it's lost most of it's developers.... ArchLinux with Kdemod is Good.... unless you want a Vanilla Kde then you could just install plain old Kde instead....
@Linux4UnMe Mandriva is not dying, it is just leaving the EU area and focusing to other markets. Developers from EU left Mandriva and they created new community Mageia. That is as well the name for the distribution. Mageia is greece and means magick.
Mandriva is still developed but it seems to be focused only for business use.
Mandriva has always had best KDE and GNOME focusing with best hardware support. Now they have even better change to focus to polishing the normal user oriented configs.
yer.... well... we'll see i guess. I know they are having financial difficulty still... and productivity within Mandriva is affected dramatically (from what i've read) So only time will tell I guess..........
in saying that... Kubuntu is ok. It's easy to use.... it's just a small developer group that lack alot of resources and skilled developers... therefore the distro (I find) is more buggier, not as well tested and just plain..... some people might disagree with me but I stand by that.... Project timelord was suppose to address alot of issues and it doesn't look like much has been done to improve Kubuntu. My opinions ofcoarse...... if it works for you... use it
oh, I forgot to mention PCLINUXOS. That Distro is amazing for a newbie. I would even go as far to say that compared to ubuntu..... it is rock solid and clean. I'm gonna do a review right now
LoL yeah....my hardware isn't bad.... I dunno, Never really liked the other Desktop environments... although I am very impressed with Xfce on "DreamLinux" Might even do a review on that actually
@Linux4UnMe i got the latest version of kubuntu i could find and it gave me an error whenever i tried to install 3rd party software... including flash!

you can try kde 4.6 on any distro but may have to add the repo manually depending what Distro it is
Linux4UnMe 1 year ago
@Linux4UnMe Ok thx

Mandriva, OpenSuse, Chakra. But you will need to upgrade Kde to 4.6. Kubuntu is the easiest

I can't recommend either... They both have the positives and negatives... try both
