TAS runs are to entertain, or to push a game to its limits to see how fast they can be completed... and sometimes other objectives depending on the game, though the main thing is entertainment.

One of those videos takes a pretty long time to make from what I understand.

I enjoy a median of RTS and TAS, and for completely different reasons. While I'm impressed by RTS by the player's superb(and obsessive) near perfection of a game, I enjoy TAS for the lack of human constraint. To see what a game COULD be without human error has always been intriguing for me.
