  • That dude at the very end is creepy.

  • Saw them as support for the Stranglers in 1977 - pure energy!

  • I thought it was The Stooges who covered The Dictators. huh...

  • Who can be bother saving the world.

  • we can trace punk pop's root in The Remons and The diatators.

    They

  • ross the boss friedman has been a loyal fan of the gibson les paul.

  • The guitarist was in Manowar.

  • Thumbs up if Mark "The Animal" Mendoza from TWISTED SISTER brought you here!!!

  • First time I saw them live was when they opened for KISS in 1976/77. My first concert and this was a way to begin. Thanks for the post.

  • Is the singer the dude who sang "I love living in the city"??

  • @klasomentas Nope. Lee Ving was the singer for FEAR which did "I love livin' in the city." This is handsome Dick Manatoba.

  • @FuriCooly I know it was Fear just didn't know whether it was him.

  • @klasomentas no that is Lee Ving. he is also a gifted actor, and, might i add, a BEA-UT-I-FUL MAN

  • Add this song to your punk covers band's song list.

  • Nice - great MC5 appeal with an early Ross the Boss on the guitar!

  • I LOVE PUNK ROCK.

  • @flymarvin thedilldolls. bandcamp .c o m/ :)

  • hard to say it but is almost as good as the original

  • I love the dictators. Great unappreciated early punk band.

  • the frontman SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS!!!!

  • @oohlalalaohhlala lol u gay dude?

  • @oohlalalaohhlala You obviously are JUST getting to into rock n roll music... so let me set it straight for you. The lead singer is Handsome Dick Manitoba... and he does not suck. He is one of the greatest effin' frontmen of his generation... especially in terms of CBGB punk rock. So get your facts straight before you post stupid drivel.

  • @drslobulus thanks for "setting it straight" for me. but i still think he sucks. nobody outside new york or CBGB "punk rock" gives two shits about this asshole. don't care who he is. nobody can do this song but iggy. again, thank you for that nugget of music knowledge oh ROCK GOD!!! WAAAAAHHHH!!!!!

  • @oohlalalaohhlala No problem, minion.

  • @oohlalalaohhlala handsome dick maintoba? Inheritor of the mc5?

  • american sh*t? does he realize dictators are american haha

  • @gavinprovidence ... or that Simple Plan are from Canada

  • Yehh Punk rock!!!

  • @sacredjimi Yeah. Like you? I think you´ve to read a little bit more? THEN you can came back and tell me.

  • Iggy Pop cover!

  • @ThePunkCentral

    yes its is

  • I'm not the world's biggest punk fan but this is cool and so NY! Must be Manowar's future guitar god Ross the Boss here!

  • They invited rock. Not rock n roll. Its a huge diffrens

  • @SealOffical invited rock? Where to?

  • its shane ryders dad !!

  • Dam these guys are BEAST fucking punkers. Up the punks! Not the punx.

  • I love this period of the 70's in New York (Rock'n'Roll of course, not hippies!). It was so exciting, so fun and with creativity. Stooges, Cramps, Dead Boys, Max's, CBGB, Mercer, New York Dolls, no wave, James Chance, people on stage with musicians.....VIVA AMERICA!!!!!!!!

  • Too cool - My favorite song when I was 13 !

  • seen them open for ac/dc and thin lizzy in chicago back when " bloodbrothers " was released, was a great show

  • umm, dictators are american and simple plan is canadian

  • Comment removed

  • Bass player is Mark Mendoza before joining Twisted Sister.

  • this is the root of punk/hardcore

and i couldnt be more thankful

  • hery the best !!!

  • Looks like Dee Snider sans make-up.

  • @gigfydotcom Well the bass player IS from Twisted Sister, Mark Mendoza, so good observation actually! lol

  • @clockworkmike83 yup and the lead guitar player helped start Manowar. Ross The Boss RULES!

  • Thats right @VooDooFlintstone African Americans invented Blues and rock and roll ! Then the british repackaged it sent it back to us .

  • @bosstheross And blues was influenced by English folk music whats your point, and white and black artists have both made great contributions to music of all styles. Music is not about color or where it came from.... who gives a shit

  • Great version! Never knew this band was so good!

  • ooohhh maan this cover sucks real hard

  • @pascual92 not nearly as much as your mums mouth

  • I hate everyone

  • Did sound for them at a gig in mpls late 70s....one of the voice coils in a bass cabinet got so hot the cone caught on fire! No Shit! I've never seen that happen b4 or since!

  • i fuckin luv d vid :)

  • You can still play punk and rock an afro! Handsom Dick Manitoba is so fuckin cool!

  • cardiff 1977 , big dick pissed on the audiance...........what a night lol

  • Would have been nice to seen Shernoff in this video.

    Just saying.

  • @wsperger its funny... i was thinking the same thing! mark " the animal " mendoza did a good job on Manifest destiny but if youre gonna do a dictators video you NEED to put andy( adny) shernoff! DFFD!!!

  • It doesn' t get any better than this.

  • this is how the stooges wanted it to sound

  • wow mark mendoza from twisted sister 's playing bass here!!!!

  • sure is F'n hot....i need a joint....smoke my dick bitch....

  • Why are you a€$¥^les discussing race instead of music?

  • The lead singer here is now the lead singer for the MC5!! He moved to Michigan for the gig, there are 3 original members of MC5 still in the band, including Wayne Kramer who was the leader. This guy is perfect for that band.

  • @hyzercreek there are already videos here on you tube of HDM playing with the MC5 and I think he is there singer now?

  • @hyzercreek Handsome Dick did a few shows with Wayne and MC5--Manitoba still lives in NYC, owns his own bar and is on Ch.25 Underground Garage on Sirius

  • The have the same beat as the Ramones but they actually can play

  • @hyzercreek wtf are you trying to say??..Its a Stooges song and the Ramones are probably The greatest band of all time.

  • @biden1 This is better than the Ramones.

  • @biden1

    Don't think so youth

  • great upload thanks!

  • This is goddamn awesome! :D thanks for uploading it!

(just on a sidenote here: aren't Simple Plan canadian?)

  • America produced RocknRoll period ! it didnt come from Europe or Africa ! It has nothing to do with race ! People stop dropping the R word ! Its bullshit ! Chuck Berry , Muddy Waters, Little Richard is a fact !

  • Mark Mendoza is an awesome bass player!

  • It doesn't sound right without the "OWWWw!" sound.

  • What would the world have done if we didn't invent Rock & Roll ?

  • i just wanna go back to africa...

  • @CodyKhaos Do it then dude - African nations and other black countries are best for blacks, just as Eurasia and White nations are the best place for Whites, China for Chinese etc..

  • "Americans invented rock and roll" as in Elvis Presley Singing and playing back then "forbidden music" aka black peoples music, wouldn't that mean that Africans invented music?

  • @SachshoT

if those "Africans" were born in the US, they were Americans.

  • @teneyedoc African Americans.. The USA was founded by Europeans - it is perhaps correct to call Americans "European Americans" but as they made the nation, America (yes, North America, the USA) in the first place the terminology isn't really accurate.. A Mexican is a Mexican in Mexico - its the same for Americans from the USA. Only White, European descended individuals are Americans in the true sense - the founders of a nation represent the nations race..

  • @andy7666 Actually, the majority of the framers of the Constitution were born in "America." They were of European descent, sure, but they were "Americans", just like most "African Americans" are "American." If you've never been there, how can you claim to be African, European, etc? American of African descent would be a more proper way to describe a black person born and raised in the US, even though that may not be entirely accurate.

  • @SachshoT People have played the drums since the Ice Age - no race has a monopoly on music, its silly to suggest that..

  • I do not know what to day to you thehiveboy do you have a problem with female parts?

  • "Hey Americans invented Rock and Roll". Fucking clueless cunt!

  • im english and an aging punk. they go on an on about ,ramones, blondie[shite] television and others . but these lads pissed on the lot of them . the dogs bollocks man .

  • In the immortal words of Ross the Boss: Quantity IS quality.

  • @froggeh64 Boss Ross was always spot on

  • I love Ross the Boss's face at 2:42-3:00

  • why do people get so bothered when other people dont like the same music as them? simple plan is a shitty band, but why get mad if 14 year old girls like them? who cares? the Dictators get plenty of worthy respect from people that matter in the punk rock cummunity. just worry about yourself and what you like, and ignore what you dont like.

  • Hey the guitar player is Ross the Boss of Manowar !!!!!

  • sweet afros lol!!

  • nobody performs like this anymore.

  • oh NO my favorite band great version but it's out of sync

    D.F.F.D.!

    Best band on earth ever.

  • wow thats Mark The Animal Mendoza from Twisted Sister on Bass!!!

  • @AmericanPowerBase you're such an idiot it's sickening.

  • wow this is a nice cover...no kiddin'

  • Nice fro, he doesnt like being called Dick either,.Call me Richard!!!

  • As much as I like the Dictators I'm glad their hairstyles didn't catch on in the punk scene although it would of been funny to see punks in big perms.

  • Nice comment! xDD US always went bit behind Europe u no! xDDDD

  • yeah fuckin' bestial music!

  • Mark "The Animal" Mendoza!!!

  • @outcastMETALchild89

Not to Mention Ross "The Boss" Friedman, of Man0waR.

  • handsome dick is the man !

  • To who uploaded this video...

This band is American. And the band Simple Plan is from Canada.

    Nub.

  • Ahhh.... Adny "I don't make no mistakes buddy boy" Shernoff and

Handsome Dick Manitoba, who is...sort of.... well, not really very handsome eh?

    Great rock'n'roll band though!

  • I prefer the Stooges version.

  • Well duh but c'mon, it's a COVER.

  • thanks for putting up this great AMERICAN song

  • This is absolutely marvellous.

  • Hey knucklehead Americans invented Rock and Roll

  • @igvu92 fail

  • Hell yeah!

  • @bosstheross fuck you

  • @bosstheross

    LOL sure Boss ;)

  • @bosstheross hell yeah we did!

  • @ghostofjamie it's not about nationalities you moron!! Do you get anything???

  • @klasomentas Calm your balls, that comment was posted a year ago, I don't even remember it. Chill out. I don't event hink that way anymore.

  • @bosstheross who gives a fuck about america! rock created it self! there was no race involved it in!

  • @bosstheross African Americans

  • @bosstheross Yeah and Americans are also destroying it and turning it into another pop culture.

  • AMERICA RULES! Let this video stand as living proof that we will out-rock, out-fun, and out-party anyone. Sorry limeys, frogs, and grape-stompers, it's in the UN Charter. You can look it up.

  • @pizzawar

    It´s "Charta" ;-D

  • @pizzawar INORITE?? Rock being American totally makes it A-OK to be a racist shithead.

  • @Lioyd1rving go die.go be an hero.

  • @klasomentas >2011

    >an hero

    so dark and edgy

  • @bosstheross Americans did not invent Rock n Roll. Most of the rock n roll band came from England. I belive. England is the hometown of rock. ( Sorry for my bad eng )

  • @SealOffical Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Bo Diddley, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis were all American, without them, no Beatles, no Rolling Stones, no Led Zeppelin, and no rock n roll, which means no hard rock, no garage rock, no punk, no metal. England, or more accurately Britain, may have created much of the blues rock, heavy rock and metal that informs most of todays music, but America gave us rock n roll, no question.

  • @SealOffical Not true. Rock N Roll developed from RnB Rhythm and blues.

I'll draw a map for you.

Gospel-->Blues--->Rhythm and Blues--->Rock N Roll from there it emerged to this.

American Rock N Roll all the way.

  • @ironbaby12 What about Queen?

  • @lemoniceluxe What about them?

  • @SealOffical hahahahahahahaha really?

  • @bosstheross And punk too.

  • this is also "american shit".

  • I hate Simple Plan!

  • I don't know who Simple Plan are!

    And I'm 20!

And I'm proud of this fact!

  • @JimmyDFFDBorneo why are you proud of that? because youre going by hear-say, and not having a mind of your own? for all you know, simple plan could be your perfect band.

its kind of funny how contradicting your comment was. trying to sound authentic and original, but you actually sound sheepish and afraid to not comform with punk rock purists.

  • @KobeJames9876

"Afraid not to conform with punk rock purists?"

Yea, because punk rock purists listen to John Coltrane and Karlheinz Stockhausen right?

  • @KobeJames9876

And just so you know, I just got done listening to a simple plan song. Now my butt hole hurts.

  • @JimmyDFFDBorneo The band was way better before they sold out. They started out as Reset which was a good punk band. They then moved to teeny boper rock, which I can only assume was for the paycheques.

  • @JimmyDFFDBorneo What's Simple Plan?

    I'm 13.

  • @lemoniceluxe Trust me. You're better off not knowing what it is. I garantee you will be scared for life if you look it up.

  • @blankpuunkmills09 yeath me too

    punxs not dead

  • stop listening to american sh*t? you know their covering an american band here right?

  • uhh yeah and the dictators is american too i think the guy who posted this dosent know his stuff or miss worded something. Im not sure if he wants me to lisen to simple plan or is makein fun of them

  • i like this cover. it is impossible to cover the stooges, but this is not too bad for a live recording. i really like it. at least they had good taste.

  • Is Manitoba's still on 7th and avenue b on the les?

i used to see handsome dick the owner behind the bar a lot in there.

nice jewish boy....named one of his kids with the middle name koufax after sandy koufax.

    huge baseball fan

  • I got thrown out for walking in shitfaced with a beer from another bar. For the record, Handsome Dick wasn't there and had nothing to do with it.

  • ils sucent des boules

  • Handsome Dick does rock that afro pretty hard! Same goes with the song!

The Dictators, definately a lost diamond in the punk mountain.

  • Comment removed

  • Who would've thought that the Dictators would spawn the guitarist for Manowar and the bassist for Twisted Sister. Go ROSS!!

  • ta wenisimo

  • ahhh a bottle of gin betwee friends and jumping to these songs...... yeahhhh
